Chevy is Pushing the Colorado ZR2 AEV Concept into Production; Will Probably Call it the Colorado Bison
One of two Chevrolet Colorado concepts that were presented at the 2017 SEMA Auto Show is reportedly headed to production. That’s the word coming out of Off-road.com, which alluded to the Colorado ZR2 AEV as the concept that could be turned into a full-blown production model. Specific details have yet to be revealed, but if it’s true, the production version of the Colorado ZR2 AEV will probably carry the “ZR2 Bison” name.

It looks like Ram is taking on the trucks segment with ruthless aggression. And why wouldn’t they? 2018 Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian SVP II
Introduced all the way back in 1978, the Mitsubishi L200 is now in its fifth-generation, having been redesigned most recently in 2015. Although anonymous in the U.S. beyond the Ram models based on it back in the 1980s, the L200 is a popular truck in emerging markets from Asia and posts good sales in some European markets too. The current L200 is also the basis of the Fiat Fullback, Italy’s first big truck in years. The L200’s increasing success in Europe prompted Mitsubishi to create a limited-edition version through its Special Vehicle Project (SVP) division.
Based on the Barbarian Double Cab trim and dubbed SVP II, this limited-edition truck builds on the success of the first SVP version, launched in 2017. Much like its predecessor, it gains extra standard features in the tech department, but it also stands out from the crowd thanks to special color schemes with striking accents. The bad news, beyond the fact that the L200 is not available in the United States, is that the SVP II can’t be purchased outside the United Kingdom. Chevrolet Teases 2020 Silverado HD, Debut Set in the Fall Of This Year
The Chevy Silverado has been a hot topic lately. The 2019 Silverado 1500 was unveiled in January at the Detroit Auto Show. Now, it’s the 2020 Silverado HD’s turn in the spotlight. It’s not scheduled to make its debut until the fall of this year, but Chevrolet is getting a head-start on the teasing game with the first official image of the heavy-duty pickup.
Ford has announced that pricing for the Ford Ranger Raptor in Australia will start out at AU$74,990 or about $57,457 at current exchange rates. It has also be said that Thailand prices will come in at 1.699 million bhat or about $54,400 at current exchange rates. As of now, the Ranger Raptor isn’t expected to come to the U.S. market – we’ve got the larger, F-150 for that – but it hasn’t been conclusively ruled out either. The Ranger Raptor is available with Ford’s new ten-speed automatic transmission and a brand-new 2.0-liter diesel that’s good for 210 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Ford raised the bar yet again when it moved the Raptor name over to the new F-150 design. Along with the new design came that lightweight aluminum bodywork, and a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6. That engine, as fate would have it, raised a lot of concern over power output. That concern was short-lived, however, once Ford announced that it delivers some 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque when drinking on some 93 octane. That’s a hell of a lot more than the outgoing 6.2-liter V-8 at 411 horsepower and 434 pound-feet. Ford even went so far as to strengthen the Raptor’s frame – it cut back on the weight reduction, naturally, but it’s still 500 pounds lighter than the outgoing model. Throw in thinks like Fox Racing shocks, BFGoodrich All-Terrain K02 Tires, and a whole host of other off-road goodies and you’ve got yourself an off-road demon. 2018 Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak Concept
The Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak Concept wasn’t supposed to appear at the2018 New York Auto Show. But as the story goes, VW execs liked the design study so much it made an 11th-hour decision and brought the Tanoak Concept as a surprise debut. Now that we’ve seen it, we’re glad Volkswagen made the audible because the prototype pickup received such a favorable response that there’s a groundswell of support building on turning the concept car into a full-blown production vehicle. It’s too early to tell if Volkswagen is going to give the people what they want, but don’t be surprised if that light bulb turns on soon.
Comparison: Is the GMC Sierra AT4 a Solid Alternative to the Ford F-150 Raptor?
GMC just launched a new-generation GMC Sierra that redefines the luxury pickup truck segment through its imposing looks, premium interior, and segment-first carbon-fiber bed. But General Motors also used the new Sierra to introduce a new model line for GMC vehicles. It’s called the AT4 and adds extra features inside and out and a lift kit. With the Sierra more capable in off-road terrain in this setup, truck enthusiasts can’t help but wonder whether the AT4 is a good proposition for the mighty Ford F-150 Raptor. To answer this question, I’m going to have a closer look at both trucks in the comparison below.
GMC just recent debuted the GMC Sierra AT4, which is essentially a luxurious, go-almost-anywhere pickup truck. It’s not exactly a competitor for vehicles like the Ford F-150 Raptor or the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, but it’s the most capable truck to ever wear a GMC badge to date. GMC’s AT4 Treatment will Extend to the GMC Canyon, Acadia, Yukon and Others, Replacing the All-Terrain Trim Level
GMC is at the New York Auto Show to showcase its latest offering, the Sierra AT4. It’s understandable if you’re not familiar with the nameplate because it’s an entirely new off-road brand that the automaker is offering to appeal to potential customers who want sprinkles of premium goodness to go along with their off-road needs. The Sierra AT4 is the first GMC-branded truck to get the trim, but other GMC models like the Canyon, Yukon, and Acadia will get their own AT4 versions in the future.
2019 GMC Sierra AT4
The pickup truck war is hotter than it’s ever been in the U.S. right now. While Ford has an all-aluminum F-150, GM just launched a brand-new GMC Sierra with an industry-first carbon-fiber bed. Ram is also going strong with a fresh 1500 model. Attracting more and more customers into dealerships is not an easy task, and this is where special models and limited editions come in handy sometimes. With a brand new Sierra 1500 on its way to dealerships, GMC just unveiled a new model. It’s called the Sierra AT4 and combines enhanced off-road ability with extra standard features and more premium appointments.
Designed for the customer "who wants an elevated presence on the road and the capability to venture off life’s beaten path," the Sierra AT4 also marks the debut of a new trim that will be offered on every GMC model in the next two years. Whether specs will be similar, it remains to be seen, but all we know is that the Sierra AT4 rides higher than the standard pickup truck and comes with an extended list of standard features. But despite boasting more luxury and sitting higher above the ground, the AT4 isn’t GMC’s highly anticipated response to the Ford F-150 Raptor. Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak Could Preview U.S.-spec Pickup Truck
Volkswagen has been selling the Amarok pickup truck since 2010, but the midsize is still restricted to European, South American, and African markets as of 2018. This has caused great frustration in the U.S., where truck enthusiasts have been clamoring for a North American version since the Amarok’s introduction. VW still doesn’t show signs that it wants to sell the Amarok in the U.S., but American buyers may get access to a truck soon, as the company just unveiled a concept vehicle with a bed at the 2018 New York Auto Show. Called the Atlas Tanoak, it’s based on the relatively new Atlas SUV and could preview the brand’s next-generation pickup truck.
Does this Mercedes X-Class Mule Point to a new US Competitor for the Chevy Colorado and Ford Ranger?
After rumors and speculation, Mercedes-Benz finally dived into the pickup truck segment with the X-Class in 2017. Sure, Merc’s utility vehicle is mostly a rebodied Nissan Navarra, but it’s a welcomed addition to a compact segment that lacked the premium appointments of a Mercedes vehicle. Unfortunately, the X-Class didn’t get the green light for North America, where it would have provided solid competition for the popular Chevrolet Colorado and the newly launched Ford Ranger. The Jeep Wrangler Pickup, AKA the Scrambler, Should hit Dealers by Mid-2019
FCA has been in a bind for the last couple of years with hope of improvement coming from the updated Ram 1500, the new Jeep Wrangler JL, and the upcoming Wrangler-based pickup truck. We’ve all seen the mules of the Jeep Pickup truck, AKA the Scrambler, testing on public roads but information about it from FCA or Jeep itself has remained top secret. All that has changed after a dealer meeting that gave just one piece of “new” information – the Jeep Wrangler Pickup will go into production in the final quarter of 2018, with dealerships getting their first haul to sell in April of 2019 – that’s just a year away folks.
The GMC Sierra AT4 is Here to Put the Hurt on the Ford F-150 Raptor, Ram Power Wagon, and the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro
The latest GMC Sierra is one mean-looking truck, and it puts the Ford F-150 to shame in many departments. For starters, it looks really cool thanks to that massive front grille, the tall headlamps, and the no-nonsense bumper. It also comes with a lot of premium features in Denali trim. Last but not least, it’s available with a carbon-fiber bed, the first such feature to be offered on a production truck. Say what you will, but it definitely beats the F-150’s aluminum construction. But GMC didn’t stop there and just took things up a notch with the Sierra AT4. Unveiled ahead of the 2018 New York Auto Show, the AT4 is a slightly more off-road capable, yet fancier version of the regular Sierra 1500.
VW’s Midsize Pickup Concept Could Preview a Potential Competitor for the Ford Ranger, Honda Ridgeline, and Chevy Colorado
Volkswagen has been on a hard EV offensive as it prepares the world for its ID lineup, and yet here we are hearing rumors about VW showing up to the New York Auto Show with a midsized truck concept. The word comes way of Automotive News who supposedly got word from “sources familiar with the matter.” Even more important is that should the public show interest, VW is ready to shift said concept into production at VW’s Tennessee-based production facility.
Don’t Look Now, But Mitsubishi’s Got Its Own Personalization Division
Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini, and Mitsubishi. These automakers and a whole bunch of others have something in common that extend beyond building products with four wheels on them. These companies have their own personalization departments. In the case of Mitsubishi, its back-room variety division is called the Special Vehicle Projects (SVP). It’s responsible for a number of custom Mitsubishis, including its newest creation, the Barbarian SVP II. Don’t feel bad if you didn’t know Mitsubishi had a personalization division. Most of us were none the wiser.
2018 SsangYong Musso
The pick-up market seems to be really heating up overseas, and South Korean automaker SsangYong is capitalizing on the growing segment with the introduction of the updated 2018 Musso at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show. In case you were unaware, SsangYong has been making 4x4 vehicles for more than six decades, and enjoys its position as South Korea’s only SUV and 4x4 specialist manufacturer. As such, the Musso pick-up joins SsangYong’s new flagship Rexton SUV to bolster it’s rough-and-ready portfolio.

2019 GMC Sierra
General Motors first launched the GMC Sierra back in 1998, following it up with the upscale Denali trim level a few years later. Now, the latest 2019 model year is bringing with it a generational changeover, debuting in a live event in Detroit and broadcast on the Internet. Previewed in the range-topping Denali and SLT trim levels, the latest Sierra gets a variety of cool new features and technologies, including improved utility for the light-duty half-ton with a MultiPro tailgate and carbon fiber bed, plus new styling to help it stand out a bit more from its mechanically identical cousin, the Chevrolet Silverado.

SsangYong Musso Pickup Comes to Attack European Market
SsangYong isn’t typically the kind of automaker that makes a splash at an event like the Geneva Motor Show. But don’t tell that to the Korean automaker because not only is it in attendance in Geneva, it also brought with it a new pickup that’s looking to take a bite out of the European pickup market. The model is called the Musso, the same name the automaker uses on its affordable SUV. The new Musso pickup is a vehicle of its own, though, and its bringing loads of features on the table.
Every now and then an automaker really steps it up and comes up with something that shakes the very foundation of the automotive market. And, that’s exactly what GMC has done with the tailgate and bed of the new, 2019 GMC Sierra.
