The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX took the automotive world by a storm. Powered by a V-8 Hellcat engine that makes over 700 horses, this big, bulky truck takes just 4.5 seconds to hit the 60 mph mark. Just when you thought this couldn’t get any better, Hennessey decided to throw in a surprise. The aftermarket company has announced a 6x6 conversion of the “Quickest, Fastest and Most Powerful Mass-produced Truck in the World”. Called the Mammoth 6x6, Hennessey will only build three examples of this 1,200-horsepower beast and sell it at half-a-million bucks a pop. God bless Hennessey.

After four long years, the production-spec 2021 Ram 1500 TRX has finally arrived. The truck is as impressive as it seemed back then in concept form if not more so. This performance off-road truck has all the ingredients to make a perfect recipe - there’s a mighty V-8 Hellcat mill under the hood that makes over 700 horses, an advanced four-wheel-drive system, a strong suspension system that’s good enough to hit triple-digit speeds off-road, and a luxurious cabin that can put even premium sedans to shame.
With a price tag of $70,000, this isn’t exactly an inexpensive truck, and it kind of missed a full onslaught on the F-150 Raptor, which is available in the fully-loaded spec at the TRX’s base price point. Can it dethrone the apex predator, or will both the trucks be able to co-exist in peace?
The Ram 1500 TRX Was Worth the Wait, and Now We Know Why
The Ram Rebel TRX was probably the most important – or at the very least most memorable – concept of the last decade. A Ram 1500 with a 500-horsepower Hellcat engine and all the off-road goods to put Jeep to shame – it was a recipe that blended desire with hope. That hope, by the way, was reinforced by the fact that the Rebel TRX Concept looked like it was ready to hit the production line. And, it really was ready, but Ram decided to hold back, and we didn’t get the production model – which we now know as the Ram 1500 TRX – for five years. Now we know why Ram waited to introduce the production model, and we’re damn glad it did.
2021 Ram 1500 TRX Launch Edition
It’s been about a week since Ram revealed the 2021 1500 TRX. It came with a lot of exciting features in and out and hit the bulls eye in almost every department. The starting price of $69,995 (excluding destination charges), too, wasn’t bad for the stuff that’s on offer. But, as is the norm these days, the Ram 1500 TRX was also introduced with a special “Launch Edition”.
Priced at over $90,000, this edition was limited to just 702 examples – the same amount of horsepower that the truck offers. At the onset, it seemed a little too expensive, but all 702 examples of the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Launch Edition were officially sold out within three hours after the bookings opened. How about that!
2021 Ram 1500 TRX vs. Ford F-150 Raptor
From the day Ram revealed the TRX Concept, people have been calling it the Raptor-killer. The concept TRX came with loads of off-road accessories, a big engine, and a star factor that made people believe that it could dethrone the Ford F-150 Raptor. Four years later, the company revealed the production-spec 1500 TRX, and it retained almost everything displayed in the concept truck. At the onset, the 1500 TRX is very impressive, but can this new entrant take on the veteran F-150 Raptor with the DNA of the company that has been ruling for decades together?

Ram Has No Intentions of Building a Street-Tuned TRX
It’s crystal clear that Ram had off-road in mind when it built the Ram 1500 TRX. In fact, it’s a bold and director competitor to the Ford F-150 with considerably more power. At this point, one could even argue that FCA is just amused by putting ridiculous amounts of power into the hands of drivers. In recent news we learned that the TRX will be the most expensive half-ton pickup ever, and that the TRX will be sold in Europe. There’s even potential for a less-powerful “entry” model of sorts to arrive sometime after launch. There’s now officially one thing there won’t be, however - A Hellcat-powered street truck akin to that of the old-school Dodge Ram SRT10.
The Ram 1500 TRX Might Be Associated With the T-Rex Dinosaur, But That Wasn’t the Intention
As the only real alternative to the Ford F-150 Raptor, perceiving the Ram 1500 TRX’s relationship to the T-Rex dinosaur makes sense on several levels. First off, the T-Rex was an adversary of the Raptor, and two, it really kind of sticks it to the Ford Raptor. When the live unveiling for the TRX happened, it was even kicked off with a cutscene from Jurassic Park that included – you guessed it – the T-Rex. As it turns out, however, that’s not where Ram was originally going with the name and, while it makes sense now, it boils down to happenstance.
Is the Ram 1500 TRX’s Cabin Too Luxurious For Off-Roading?

At the reveal presentation, the truck was touted as “The Most Powerful Mass-produced Truck in the World”. Ram also claims it to be the most luxurious truck, but do all these things come at a cheap sticker price? Of course not. The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX may start at just $69,995, but equip it with all the accessories and options available now (not counting from the MOPAR catalog), and it soon breaches the six-digit mark. You Can’t Buy a Ford Bronco In Europe, But You Will Be Able to Buy the Ram 1500 TRX
Shortly After the 2021 Ford Bronco was revealed, it was announced by a Ford spokesperson that the Bronco isn’t for Europe in any way, shape, or form. Given Europe’s strict emissions regulations and massive taxes on big engines, you’d assume that the RAM TRX would be stuck on the sidelines just like the Ford Bronco. Ford is even offering the Bronco with a three-banger, and it won’t cross the pond, but the HEMI-powered Ram TRX will be making that journey, and it could be happening sooner than you might expect.
