It’s been three years since Ford re-released the F-150 Raptor (after a three-year hiatus), and we’ve been waiting for a strong challenger to come in with an uppercut. The Rebel’s distant cousin, the Jeep Gladiator, is okay and all, but Ram just proved that good things come to those who wait. This, folks, is the Ram Rebel TRX, and I’m going to explain to you how Ram made it so capable and why it just became the most capable truck in the world.
The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Arrives To Take The Title Of The Most Powerful Mass-Produced Truck in the World
Four years after launching the concept, Ram has finally unveiled the 2021 Ram Rebel TRX. The truck comes with a big V-8 engine under the hood, an advanced four-wheel-drive system, a strong suspension system, and a luxurious cabin. It will be available with a host of optional accessories as well, and with a starting price of $69,995, you won’t have to break the bank to have an amazing off-road truck. Although it seems very impressive on paper, can be live up to its ‘Raptor-killer’ nickname?

Billed as the most powerful mass-produced truck in the world, the 2021 Ram Rebel TRX has some pretty big expectations to live up to, but once you hear more about it, I think you’ll agree that it’s about to dominate the off-road segment. The 2021 Ford Bronco and 2021 Jeep Wrangler better watch out because there’s a new truck in town, and it has the taste of blood on its tongue. Powered by a 6.2-liter HEMI V-8, the Rebel TRX is good for 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, all of which is sent through a high-torque-capacity TorqueFlight eight-speed automatic transmission. This truck has the capability of sprinting to 60 mph in as fast as 4.5 seconds and will blaze through the quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds at 108 mph. It will top out at just 118 mph, but remember – this isn’t a super-truck; it’s an off-road truck, and that is, without a doubt, its natural habitat.
A Dana 60 rear axle sends power to the rear wheels through an electronically locking rear differential with a 3.55 final gear ratio, and the new unique suspension system provides active damping to keep things under control even on the toughest off-road trails. But that’s not all. See, the TRX also features model-specific Bilstein Black Hawk e2 performance shocks and a five-link coil suspension system. All told, wheel travel is greater than 13 inches on all four corners, and the TRX is also 8-inches wider than any other 1500 on the market today. The TRX starts out at an impressive $69,999 and order books open as soon as August 18, 2020.

The Ram Rebel is one of the sportiest trucks on the market today. It’s not just the tuners, but also the automakers building powerful and fast monsters right out of the factory. Dodge can be credited with this trend when they launched the Dodge Ram SRT-10 more than 15 years back. This truck was powered by the same V-10 found in the Dodge Viper. However, the market was not mature enough to handle it, thus sending it off the production line within three years of its inception.
Fast forward to 2016 and Dodge is Now Ram, and it revealed a concept truck called the Ram Rebel TRX. In 2018, the company said the concept was given a green signal by the corporate overlords and they will be building it. Since then, enthusiasts have been in a tizzy as to what to expect out of this beast. This monochromatic package is essentially a dark treatment for all the bling that is present all over the Limited trim’s body. Although it is offered only on the Limited trim, it can be had with any engine and drive layout.
2020 Ram 1500 Built to Serve: Nautical Theme
Back in November 2019, Ram announced that it will produce a series of 5 special-edition 1500 pickup trucks, with each one representing a branch of U.S. Armed Forces – Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. Called the ‘Built to Serve trucks, the company has now launched the second installment of the series; this time to honor the Navy. This Nautical-inspired theme will see 2,000 trucks being built in Ceramic Gray and Patriot Blue shades.

The Ram Rebel TRX is arguably the hottest truck at this moment. From all the leaks we’ve seen so far, it is shaping up to be a Raptor killer. The truck was supposed to debut at the Detroit Auto Show, but with the COVID-19 situation and the show getting canceled, a specific debut window has been up in the air.
However, the latest scoop by Mopar Insiders suggests that the upcoming Rebel TRX will be launched in June, albeit at a company event in Chelsea in front of a small audience.

2020 Ram 2500 HD - Driven

In 2019, Ram sold over 630,000 examples; almost 60,000 more than the Chevy Silverado, to occupy the runner-up position. A lot of it can be credited to the fantastic engines in the lineup, and Ram’s constant effort to infuse luxury into its cargo-haulers. Not to mention, it has been paying a lot attention to safety as well. To top it all off, these trucks became an overnight sensation when Ram announced a 1,000 pound-feet of torque figure for the 3500 series. The Ram 2500 doesn’t boast of that, but it still has a lot going in its favor to be deemed as a potent threat to the Blue Oval and the Bowtie.
The model that arrived at the TopSpeed HQ was a black Ram 2500 HD Laramie. This is a mid-level trim that may not come with the best features that Ram has to offer, but it is one of the most practical trims to buy that covers all the basic essentials you would need on a daily basis. The truck came with a Cummins engine under the hood, a large touchscreen system on the inside, and a fairly wide, intimidating footprint that would shoo away all the smaller vehicles on the road with ease. But, when you pit it against the like-for-like trims of Ford and Chevy products on paper, it feels a little weak.
With that said, the Ram 2500 HD Laramie is still a strong contender and worthy of being shortlisted in your book if you’re in the market for a heavy-duty truck priced at around $50,000.
