2016 Ram 1500 Yellow Rose of Texas Edition

2016 Ram 1500 Yellow Rose of Texas Edition

Texas-only trim fosters state pride

Texans love their trucks, so it’s no surprise with automakers lease Texas-only trim packages that appeal to the State’s taste in pickups. Ram is the latest to do so, debuting the Yellow Rose of Texas edition at the 2016 Dallas Auto Show.

This special edition is available on Ram 1500 Crew Cab models with the Lone Star trim package. It can be had with either RWD or 4WD and all three engine options, which include the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, and the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6.

“Texas is truck country – Ram Truck country – and we’re committed to building products that resonate with our customers,” said Mike Manley, Head of Ram Brand - FCA Global. “The importance of the Texas truck market cannot be overstated. That’s why the Ram Truck brand has worked year after year to deliver hard-working trucks that serve the communities across the Lone Star state.”

The Yellow Rose of Texas name is a play off the mid-19th century folk song of the same name. In 1955, Mitch Miller popularized the song with his rendition that went all the way to number one of the billboard charts.

The special edition will be available in April of 2016 at Texas-based Ram dealerships.

2016 Ram Laramie Limited

2016 Ram Laramie Limited

The luxury truck market is alive and well, and that’s especially obvious when blinded by the shimmering chrome grille of the new 2016 Ram Trucks Laramie Limited trim level. It may be a rugged truck underneath, but it lacks strength in subtlety. In fact, the new trim level includes chrome accents along the rocker panels on the doors, the side steps, mirror caps, door handles, and 20-inch wheels. For those who are either blind or car ignorant, the designers threw on a massive R-A-M badge along the tailgate. No mistaken identity here.

The upscale bling continues inside the truck as well, with real wood accents, French stitching on the authentic leather with accent piping on the seats, and a long list of standard equipment like the 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system.

Though the mechanics are all the same, the new trim level brings a newness to the Ram Truck lineup. The Laramie Limited is offered across the non-commercial lineup, meaning well-off cowboys can order a 1500, or the Heavy Duty 2500 and 3500 series Ram with the luxury and visual updates.

UPDATE 06/09/2015: Ram has officially announced pricing for the 2016 Ram 1500 Laramie Limited. The trim level’s starting price begins at $50,675 and grows depending on powertrain configurations. Continue reading for the full pricing list.

2014 Ram Heavy Duty Black

2014 Ram Heavy Duty Black

Introduced last summer, the 2014 Ram 1500 Black Express Edition was quite popular with pickup truck drivers according to the Chrysler-owned brand, who has just revealed that the appearance package will make its way onto the more capable Heavy Duty lineup.

As suggested by its name, the Black package wraps both the Ram 2500 HD and 3500 HD in an all-black exterior. In fact, we might as well call these trucks the triple-black Ram pickups, as the chrome is completely removed from both bumpers and the imposing cross-hair grille, which are now offered in the same color as the body.

To complete the menacing look, the manufacturer perched the trucks on black 20-inch aluminum wheels and removed body-side badging from all models save for the diesel, Cummins-powered ones. Naturally, the premium bi-functional halogen headlamps and the fog lamps come with blacked-out housings, the taillights feature a smokey finish, while the windows are tinted all around.

Also included with the Black package are 15-amber-LED turn signals, 3-amber-LED side markers, and Parkview and Parksense technologies.

The new appearance pack can be had with Crew Cab and Mega Cab Ram 2500 and 3500 SRW models in Big Horn and Laramie trims, in either two-wheel and four-wheel-drive configurations.

Pricing starts at $42,140 for the Ram Heavy Duty Black, plus a $1,195 destination fee.

2014 RAM 1500 Black Express Edition

2014 RAM 1500 Black Express Edition

The Ram 1500 pickup has become a popular model in the years that it’s been patrolling roads all over America.

Everybody has thought highly enough of the pickup that a revised model of the current-generation 1500 was just introduced a few weeks ago. Apparently, that popularity has compelled Ram to build a special-edition model called the Ram Black Express.

Looking the part of a completely bad-ass pickup, RAM built the Black Express to accommodate a slew of new features that completely sets it apart from the rest of the 1500 lot. Not that the latter doesn’t boast of many creds, the Black Express just takes it to another level.

One look at the Black Express and you immediately notice that it’s been blacked out to the hilt, complete with a black grille and front fascia, black bumpers, black badges on the front and rear, and to no one’s surprise, black 20-inch aluminum wheels.

Nobody got confused with what to call this special-edition 1500, apparently.

There’s also the addition of a bi-function halogen projector headlamps with LED running lights, a standard feature on this special edition compared to it being an added option on the regular steeds.

No powertrain changes were made so expect to see the same 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 under its hood, good enough to produce 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque while mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with a towing capacity of 9,250 pounds to go with an estimated 0-to-60 mph time of about 8-something seconds and a top speed of about 135 mph.

The Ram Black Express comes with a base price of $26,955, a little over $1,000 more than the base Express 4X2 regular cab.

2013 Ram Superman Power Wagon

2013 Ram Superman Power Wagon

Cross-marketing stunts aren’t new in the auto industry.

It’s a great way for two companies to promote each other to two completely different audiences. Recently, a lot of auto brands and movie studios have taken this route to promote a particular movie and the car that will appear in said movie.

Alfa Romeo and Fast and Furious 6 recently did something like this a few weeks ago. Now, it’s Ram and Warner Bros’ turn to get in on the action.

With the upcoming "Man of Steel" movie set to hit theaters on June 14th, the two companies went ahead and unveiled a special edition, one-off "Man of Steel" Ram 1500 Power Wagon that was specifically built to promote the movie.

If this truck isn’t intimidating enough on its own, the specially designed Man of Steel-inspired styling will definitely get your attention.

Shortly after its unveiling, the one-off Man of Steel Power Wagon will head over to New York City on June 10th, just in time for the world premiere of the highly anticipated Superman movie. From there, the truck will go on its own tour around the country in the coming months before heading over to the auction block where it will be auctioned off for charity.
