2020 Renault MORPHOZ concept
Renault, like all other automakers, were forced to skip the Geneva Motor Show, but that sure didn’t stop it from unveiling what will probably be written in history as the weirdest futuristic concept of 2020. The Morphoz is, essentially, a vehicle that can transform based on range need, from a shorter, city car to a longer travel car. It sounds like the Morphoz will be a city car by default and would require you to stop by a station and swap to a larger battery if you plan to take a longer trip. The batteries, whether in the car or not, will be used to power infrastructure when not in use. I tend to speak too soon about a lot of things, but I’m going to come right out and say that this thing will never see production, but it could represent the future of automobiles, so here’s what you need to know about it.
2018 Renault EZ-Ultimo
The Renault EZ-Ultimo is a futuristic concept car that the French firm unveiled at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. A fully autonomous car, the EZ-Ultimo rounds out Renault’s trilogy of concept robo-vehicles designed for shared mobility. It joins the EZ-Go and the EZ-Pro, also unveiled in 2018.
Described as a "robo-vehicle for a premium mobility experience," the EZ-Ultimo was developed for increasingly congested city traffic and to meet new urban trends in which more and more people drop personal cars in favor of shared car services. Powered by an all-electric drivetrain, the concept car is intended to be offered as a service for "a single trip, a circuit or a day booking" provided by premium travel companies and resorts. One of Renault’s most luxurious vehicles ever, the EZ-Ultimo previews a production car that might become available over the next decade.

2019 Renault Clio
The much anticipated new 2019 Renault Clio city car finally showed its face. In an effort to move towards the premium spectrum of the city car segment (you know, where the A1 and the Mini reside), the new Renault Clio gained many of the design traits from the latest line of Renault vehicles such as the Talisman sedan and the Megane hatch. It showed its face before the imminent reveal at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year and it is a fundamentally better car than before. Yet, with the new platform, new engines, new interior, and new dimensions come new thinking as well. The new Clio is actually shorter compared to the predecessor. Lower too. But roomier inside. Somehow, Renault engineers achieved the Tardis effect with the new Cio and I will tell you how. First things first. Why the hell does it look so similar to its predecessor?

2018 Renault K-ZE
Renault is previewing its future mini electric crossover with the K-ZE concept revealed at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. Taking a closer look at the K-ZE, it becomes immediately apparent that it is, in fact, just a dressed up Kwid (which Renault already sells in emerging markets) which has had its internal combustion powertrain swapped out for a full-electric one.
The future electric crossover will look much closer to this concept, than it will to the current Kwid, although it will maintain its basic body shape. What will set it apart visually more significantly are the new, redesigned front and rear fascias, as well as various details around the exterior. It also promises to offer “class leading” range for a vehicle in its size-bracket.
2018 Renault EZ-GO
Renault has been big on the whole EV self-driver thing for the past few years now, pulling the sheets on several SYMBIOZ concepts back in 2017. The EZ-GO is the latest follow-up, offering the same drivetrain and autonomous tech as before, but with an extra dash of shared mobility services and connected features to boot. The result is a vision of the future of urban mobility, promising improvements to both energy efficiency and quality of life.

2017 Renault Symbioz Concept
While there’s certainly no shortage of automakers out there offering visions of our inevitable all-electric autonomous future, Renault is one of the few that’s actually taking the idea into new, unexpected directions. For example, what if your car could integrate with your home as a spare room, a smart electric energy grid, and a mobile multimedia center? It’s called the Symbioz, which is a play on the word symbiosis, and it was recently on display alongside a full-size model home at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Renault frames it as a vision of things to come in the year 2030, offering passengers a chance to “enjoy a cabin that feels like home and has been designed for autonomous motoring. On the road, the car becomes an extension of the home. When parked inside the home, it doubles as an extra mobile, modular and multi-purpose room,” adding, “The car is complementary to the home and also an extension of it,” finding common themes of “major architectural design choices, common materials and styling.”
Indeed, Renault is the first automaker to bring a full-size home to a car show, but it goes a long way to proving a point. The Symbioz project brought together “designers and engineers, academics and architects, startups and sociologues,” all in the name of finding out how to make the most of upcoming technologies. 2017 Renault Alpine A110
It took Renault about three years to transform the 2012 Alpine A110-50 Concept into a production-friendly vehicle, and the road-ready sports car is finally ready to hit the market. Come 2017 and the French company relaunched the Alpine brand at the Geneva Motor Show. As expected, the production model shares many design features with the concept cars Alpine showcased in recent years. The most recent of them is dubbed Alpine Celebration Concept and broke cover ahead of the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was featured again a couple of weeks later in the year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and looked ready to hit the streets with minor modifications here and there.
As the name suggests, the Celebration Concept celebrated six decades since Alpine was established in Dieppe, France. Also, it pays homage to the classic 1961 -1973 Alpine A110, a sports car the French built from 1961 to 1977. Introduced as an evolution of the A108, the two-door "Berlinette" was designed by Giovanni Michelotti and used a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. Among being Alpine’s most iconic model, the A110 was also a successful race car, winning the manufacturer’s title at the end of 1973 World Rally Championship. All told, the new Alpine has a lot of heritage to build on and this is more than evident in the final production model.

2017 Renault Zoe
The Renault Zoe came to be in 2012, as part of the company’s Z.E. electric car initiative that also includes the Twizy city car and the Kangoo Z.E. compact panel van. Originally launched with a 22 kWh battery that returned a 93-mile range, the Zoe received a second battery good for 150 miles in 2015. At the 2016 Paris Motor Show, Renault announced the introduction of a brand-new battery for the Zoe. Boasting 41 kWh of useful energy, the new stack returns an NEDC driving range of 250 miles and a real-world range of up to 186 miles.
Set to go on sale in 2017, the updated Zoe will hit the streets in the same form as the original hatchback. Aside from the new battery and upgraded infotainment apps, the Zoe will carry over unchanged inside and out. However, the new battery makes it the most capable, affordable electric car on the market, at least until the Opel Ampera-e lands in showrooms.
The updated electric arrived just as Renault sold its 100,000th Zoe, an impressive achievement in this market. Although not as popular as the Leaf, which sold more than 230,000 units globally as of 2016 (note that the Leaf is also offered in the U.S.), the Zoe is the best-selling hybrid in France and a notable competitor for the Nissan in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Norway.

2016 Renault Trezor
So, the biggest days of the Paris Motor Show are over with. Brands like Ford, Volvo, Rolls-Royce, and Bentley all decided to skip out, but over in Renault’s little corner of the show sat the Renault Trezor – the all-electric grand tourer that we’ve all be waiting for. To put things simply, this two-seater has 350 horsepower on tap from a pair of batteries that are strategically placed with weight distribution in mind. There’s some interesting technology inside to go with
inspired interior styling and a rather interesting way to enter and exit the vehicle.
Laurens van den Acker, the Senior Vice President of Renault’s Corporate Design Division, said, “The Renault range has now been completely renewed and upgraded with a spectrum of complementary models, each one of which has its own assertive identity. With the Trezor, we have pursued this renewal by introducing a new lifecycle sequence. This concept car is the fruit of a freedom of expression and prepares the way for the trends we are likely to see in our upcoming vehicles. These trends fall into two categories: French Design and Easy Life.”
So, does the Trezor concept do exactly as Acker claims? Is it a representation of trends that we’ll be seeing in future vehicles? Well, that’s hard to say for sure, but it is essentially an evolution of the styling cues that we saw on the DeZir a few years ago. 2017 Renault Scenic
Five years ago, Renault brought the Renault R-Space Concept to the Geneva Auto Show. This year, we saw what appeared to be the same concept sitting at Renault’s stand. Was it déjà vu? Nope. We were actually looking at the next-generation Renault Scenic. That’s right, Renault took its famed R-space concept and used it as a basis for the newest Scenic.
Oddly enough, Renault kept a lot of to styling from the concept when it made the new Scenic. There were, of course, changes made to make it production ready, but as you can see from our main display image, it’s not that far off. In fact, as far as first impressions go, one might argue that it actually looks better than the R-Space concept. How often do we say that about a concept turned production model? Not very often at all.
Laurens van den Acker, Renault’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Design, said, “We wanted the new SCENIC to break new ground. It is a sexier and more modern take on the MPV which carries over the outstanding modularity that has been paramount to the success of the model’s three previous generations over the past 20 years. Its proportions and large-diameter wheels draw inspiration from the R-Space concept car.”
You’ve got to hand it to Renault when it comes to the new Scenic. It’s slated to be the bomb diggity of the MPV segment, and if the interior is as stylish as the exterior, it won’t have a hard time living up to that hype. The original Scenic virtually invented the MPV marketplace and has held its rank rather well over the years. So, will the new Scenic continue to be a leader of the MPV segment? Well, we have some new pictures and lots of information, so let’s dive on in and find out for ourselves.

2016 Renault Megane Estate
The fourth-generation Renault Megane made its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. It shares the same mid-sized car platform as the 2015 Nissan Pulsar, but unlike its Japanese cousin, the French hatchback is quite exciting to look at thanks to the brand’s new design DNA, which debuted on the Talisman midsize sedan. The new Megane also received a new GT version, which is not as powerful as the RS, but features a sportier body kit and a dual-clutch gearbox. With the entire hatchback lineup already in dealerships, Renault has introduced the Megane Estate at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
Essentially a longer version of the hatch with extra legroom for rear-seat passengers and a bigger trunk, the Megane Estate will look to give wagon versions of the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus a run for their money. With a dynamic, elegant design, fuel-efficient engines, technology usually found in higher segments, and a sporty GT variant, the new Megane Estate is a significant departure from it predecessor. But does it have what it takes to take the iconic Golf Variant down in Europe? Read our review to find out.

2016 Renault Alpine Vision Concept
Introduced in 1961, the original Alpine A110 has attained legendary status thanks to its lightweight, sporty design and numerous wins in the World Rally Championship. Discontinued in 1977, four years after Alpine was purchased by Renault, the A110 is about to return with a modern design and state-of-the-art underpinnings. However, while it was announced in 2012, the sports car designed to revive the Alpine brand has yet to arrive. Instead, the French built a couple of concept vehicles. The A110-50 was shown in 2012, while the Celebration concept was unveiled ahead of the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans as a near-production-ready study.
Come 2016, and it turns out that the Celebration concept wasn’t the last Alpine concept to come from the Dieppe-based shop. With the 2016 Geneva Motor Show right around the corner, the French introduced the Alpine Vision concept — a refined, production-friendly version of the Celebration concept. According to Alpine, this new concept will share about 80 percent of its design with the production model, which means it’s our best look at the upcoming A110 sports car yet. Needless to say, the new concept looks very similar to our own rendering of the production car.
There’s no word as to when the new Alpine will break cover, but Renault did say that a production model will be unveiled over the next 12 months. My best guess is that an official launch will occur by the end of the year with sales to commence in 2017. The sports car will initially go on sale in Europe before becoming available in other markets. It’s not yet known whether the A110 will cross the pond to the U.S., but that’s not very likely given that Renault is no longer present on these shores. Until we find out more about that, make sure you have a closer look at the latest Alpine concept below.

2016 Renault KWID Climber Concept
In May of 2015, the Renault unveiled the Kwid, a model that would help strengthen its presence in the Indian Market. The model went on sale a few months later and was a huge success, with Renault selling more than 70,000 models in just two months. The Kwid is just a hair bigger than the Renault Twingo and is underpinned by a platform shared with Nissan.
With the immediate success of the Kwid, Renault saw fit to develop two new concepts for the 2016 New Delhi Auto Show in India. One was called the Renault Kwid Racer, and then there is this one – the Renault Kwid Climber. Built on the same architecture as the Racer Concept, the Kwid Climber is said to have “all the qualities of an off-roader.”
At first glance, we can see that the Kwid Climber is the exact opposite of the Kwid Racer Concept. It sits higher than the road-going Kwid, and has certain modifications to protect it, should things get a rough on the less-beaten path. We’re not sure if the Kwid Climber will ever go into production, but let’s take a deeper look at it anyway and see just what it brings to the table.

2016 Renault KWID Racer Concept
Although its products aren’t available in the U.S., Renault is doing quite well in Europe and Asia. The Clio and Logan (sold as Dacia in Europe) are big hits on the compact market, while the Duster crossover is selling like hotcakes in several countries. More recently, Renault launched an even smaller SUV in India. Dubbed Kwid, it is slightly larger than Renault’s smallest car, the Twingo, and rides on the new CMF-A platform jointly developed by Renault and Nissan.
Introduced in May 2015 and put on sale in September, the Kwid became an instant hit in India, gathering 70,000 orders in only two months (10 percent of effective market shares in its segment). Looking to build on the Kwid’s immediate success, Renault unveiled two new concept cars at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo, one of which is Kwid Racer.
As the name suggests, the show car is a sportier version of the standard Kwid. It features an aggressive body kit, a special blue exterior with red accents, bucket seats, and even a roll cage. The Racer was launched alongside the Kwid Climber, a concept showcasing the mini SUV’s off-road skills, but unfortunately none are slated to go into production. Despite that, the Kwid Racer is actually a cool crossover that would attract a lot of attention in Europe should Renault greenlight it for production, which is why we decided to have a closer look at it.

It could be said that Renault invented the hot hatch. The Renault 5 Alpine did debut a few months before the Volkswagen Golf GTI, and even if VW’s offering is currently more popular worldwide, Renault has always offered some strong contenders for the European market. The latest, which was just unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show, is the Megane GT. It’s not the fire breathing monster that Renault’s RS hatchbacks are, but it is closely related while making some compromises in the name of practicality and usability, not to mention price.
Renault’s hot hatches have only at times directly competed with VW’s, usually being just different enough from the GTI that it wouldn’t be too diffiuclt a decision to pick one over the other. That is very much not the case with the new Megane GT, which is aimed squarely at the 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI, and indeed the whole Megane line is of late more of a direct competitor to VW. Renault has always done hatchbacks extremely well, but it’s difficult to ignore the fact that VW has a big share of the hatchback market, especially the hot hatch market, and Renault seems to be gunning to take that away.

Compared to other hatchbacks in the industry today, the Renault Mégane can be considered a neophyte, having only been around since 1995. In fact, if Renault hadn’t thought of developing a model to succeed the popular Renault 19, the Mégane probably wouldn’t exist today. Yet here we are, 20 years and four generations later, the all-new 2016 Mégane has arrived, ushering in a new era for the steadily improving hatchback.
The fourth-generation Mégane made its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. It shares the same mid-sized car platform as the 2015 Nissan Pulsar, but unlike its rather mundane-looking cousin, the new Mégane looks about as sharp as any hatchback in the market today. That’s largely attributed to the car receiving Renault’s new design DNA, a characteristic it shares with the 2016 Renault Talisman, the French automaker’s equally exquisite new mid-size luxury sedan. Gone are the days when the mere sight of the Mégane lulled people to sleep. No one’s going to have that problem with the Mégane because this is the Mégane we’ve all been waiting for.
Now that it’s here, the Mégane’s future looks brighter than it’s ever been in the last 20 years. If the hatchback rides as good as it looks, there’s no telling what heights this model can reach, especially when the RS versions come roaring into our lives down the road.

Renault, of all automakers, has just released a new midsize pickup truck concept called the Alaskan. This marks the first time Renault has targeted the upmarket scene with a pickup and is slated to preview a production pickup that will be a global player. What’s more, this could very well be the first real glimpse of what the 2020 Mercedes-Benz new global pickup could look like.
Wait, Mercedes? Yep Mercedes. Don’t forget Renault and Nissan have their global alliance together and Mercedes has already announced it will build its first pickup in conjunction with Nissan. What makes this rumor even more plausible is just how similar the Alaskan Concept looks to the first Mercedes rendering of its pickup. The speculation is a stretch, for sure, but the possibility is there nonetheless. (Be sure to check out the photo comparison below.)
Regardless of the Mercedes tie-in, Renault’s newest concept shows off a more luxurious side to the brand’s bustling commercial truck lineup. The automaker stresses its new pickup is for “business and leisure use, plus everyday motoring.” This is a big departure from Renault’s more utilitarian workhorses that populate its commercial fleet.
The Alaskan concept is only a concept, but Renault says the Alaskan is a direct foretaste of a production-ready pickup. The yet-unnamed pickup will fight for sales in nearly every global market save for North America – that is, unless its underpinnings cross the pond via Mercedes or as the next-generation Nissan Frontier.

Established as a merger between the Alpine and Gordini, Renaultsport has been responsible for developing and building the brand’s high-performance and racing vehicles since 1976. Motorsport highlights included the Le Mans-winning A442 (1978), the Dakar-winning 20 Turbo 4x4 (1982) and the tiny 5 Turbo, but the performance division also built a bevy of road-going cars using its race-bred technology. Having set a Nurburgring record for FWD cars with the Megane RS 275 Trophy-R, (now apparently beaten by the new Honda Civic Type R), Renaultsport decided to focus on creating a more powerful version of the Clio RS 200. The end result goes by the name RS 220 Trophy and it just made its global debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
Although it’s unlikely it will be used to set new track benchmarks, the RS 220 Trophy trumps its direct competitors on paper, thanks to its beefed-up turbocharged four-cylinder. Its tweaked chassis also recommends it as potent track toy, but does it have what it takes to leave a mark in a segment dominated by cheaper offerings from Volkswagen and Ford?

While Renault has been mostly known as a manufacturer of quirky MPVs and not SUVs or crossovers – unlike alliance partner Nissan, for example – the French carmaker has recently tasted success in these segments, courtesy of the Koleos and Captur compact crossovers. That said, the Renault-Nissan Alliance recently decided to gain a better foothold in the crossover/SUV market by launching the Renault Kadjar, which will be slotted between the aforementioned two models.
Based on the "C/D" version of the new CMF (Common Module Family) platform, the Kadjar is almost identical underneath its sheet metal to the successful Nissan Qashqai, which is now in its second generation. Design-wise, the model is closer to its little brother, the Renault Captur, meaning that the Kadjar will play more on its seduction card when going for a piece of the action in the compact crossover segment. The model set to be sold globally in almost all Renault markets, and it will be the first Renault to be manufactured in China, starting in 2016.

Out of the shadows of all the major auto shows happening all over the world at this time of the year, the Johannesburg Motor Show is scheduled to open its doors on October 16th, and at least one automaker will be in attendance to introduce a new concept vehicle.
That automaker is Renault and recently, the French company released teaser photos of the concept in question, aptly called the Duster Detour Concept. The vehicle is based on the Renault Duster, the company’s resident budget off-roader that was penned and developed by Renault Design Central Europe in partnership with a Johannesburg-based design studio.
Four teaser images were spliced together to give us hints of what to expect of the Duster Detour Concept. The two-tone Pearl Yellow and Matte Grey paint is inline with past Renault concepts, and the edges and curves appear to suggest some inspiration on the Dakar rally, as well as what Renault calls a mix of a little "Mad Max with a touch of the Terminator."
Nothing like cinematic references to get our interests going.
Fog lights were also included just under what looks like a newly designed front grille. A set of five-spoke alloy wheels with orange accents is also part of the concept, as is what the company says is a spacious and revised interior cabin.
The Renault Duster Detail Concept will make its debut on October 16th, at which time we’ll get to see how much Mad Max and how much Terminator was inspired in the design of the concept off-roader.
