2017 Renault Alpine A110
It took Renault about three years to transform the 2012 Alpine A110-50 Concept into a production-friendly vehicle, and the road-ready sports car is finally ready to hit the market. Come 2017 and the French company relaunched the Alpine brand at the Geneva Motor Show. As expected, the production model shares many design features with the concept cars Alpine showcased in recent years. The most recent of them is dubbed Alpine Celebration Concept and broke cover ahead of the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was featured again a couple of weeks later in the year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and looked ready to hit the streets with minor modifications here and there.
As the name suggests, the Celebration Concept celebrated six decades since Alpine was established in Dieppe, France. Also, it pays homage to the classic 1961 -1973 Alpine A110, a sports car the French built from 1961 to 1977. Introduced as an evolution of the A108, the two-door "Berlinette" was designed by Giovanni Michelotti and used a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. Among being Alpine’s most iconic model, the A110 was also a successful race car, winning the manufacturer’s title at the end of 1973 World Rally Championship. All told, the new Alpine has a lot of heritage to build on and this is more than evident in the final production model.

Renault Truck Used In France Terror Attack
As the world continues to grave for those killed and injured in the terrorist attack in Nice, France on July 14, we have speculation on the type of truck used. The truck appears to be a Renault Midlum 220.12. Though the front end is badly damaged, the cab shape and details lead us to the conclusion. Undoubtedly, French officials will conduction detailed investigations and inspections of the truck, so more concrete information will likely come forward.
The medium-duty commercial truck features an extended-style cab and a long, enclosed cargo box. The box itself appears to be roughly 26 feet in length. According to the Telegraph, the truck was loaded with a “a pistol, a larger gun, and a number of fake weapons and grenades.” The driver only used one firearm in shootout with police, however. The Telegraph also reports the truck plowed through the crowd at speeds of approximately 40 mph.

Small SUVs are all the rage in Europe, a relatively new segment that is best typified for Americans by the Nissan Juke. For the European market, many manufacturers have found that the best and easiest way to compete in this segment is just to take an existing successful hatchback and make it taller. This has worked especially well for French manufacturers, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise, as the French have ruled the European hatchback market for years. And at the top of the segment is the Renault Captur, a taller version of the Clio, which holds a staggering 32.2 percent of the European B-segment SUV market.
So to celebrate the car’s dominance, Renault has made a special edition, known as the Hypnotic. It is what a special edition should be in this segment – a unique appearance package and a savings on equipment by more being offered as standard. Things like a bit more power are always great to see, but it would cost a lot more that way, and it isn’t really what would sell cars in this segment anyway. The special touches are well executed, but then it was a well executed vehicle to begin with.

About 15 months ago, Renault was neck-deep in an espionage case that involved three executives allegedly selling electric vehicle information to China and funneling money into illegal accounts. It later came out, following a French investigation into the firing of the three executives, that the executives were not involved in industrial espionage and that they were wrongfully terminated.
Renault found out exactly what crow tasted like, as they compensated the fired executives for lost salary and defamation, but apparently there was a little leftover crow, as 15 months after this all took place, the company’s COO, Patrick Pelata, has submitted his resignation. This isn’t the first time Paleta has submitted a resignation, as he entered one shortly after the case went sour, but Renault’s CEO, Carlos Ghosn, rejected the resignation. Renault accepted the resignation, but instead of outright losing Pelata, Renault placed him in an advisory role in the Nissan-Renault Alliance.
This time, however, the resignation will stick, as Renault has announced that effective August 16th, Paleta will step down from his post in the alliance. According to reports, there is no information on where Pelata will land, but we are certain he will find a new home, despite the false espionage case.
We’ll let you know where he ends up as soon as we find out.
We love gossip just about as much as a 16-year-old schoolgirl, but our gossip is about [ahem] manly stuff; you know? Things like the rumor out of France that Renault will in fact re-launch the Alpine brand that it shuttered up a little less than two decades ago. You read that right, the Alpine sports car brand is returning… if the rumors are true.
According to comments made by Renault chief of design, Laurens van den Acker, the French automaker is trying to develop a car that is more similar to the A110Berlinette from the `60s and `70s and that it is trying to do with Alpine what BMW has done with MINI. Now, before you go getting all excited about seeing a production model of the A110 concept, you can scratch that, as Renault wanting a design similar to the `60s and `70s Alpine A110 nixes that possibility.
To add some validity to the reports, Jean-Pascal Dauce, Renault’s motorsports department head, was reported saying that they anticipate producing 5,000 to 10,000 Alpines per year. Rumors also point to this limited lineup of sports cars running between €35,000 and €40,000 ($44,000 to $50,000), which makes them relatively attainable.
The final tidbit of info leaked is that Renault is anticipating its release to occur sometime in 2015. Unfortunately, there is no information on whether the new Alpine lineup will be available in the U.S. or not. We are certainly hoping that it does, given what we have seen from the A110 concept.

Back in 2007, a well-planned three-way deal between Renault, Nissan and Daimler brought these three automotive powerhouses together. This deal wasn’t necessarily massive, as it only resulted in Daimler getting a 3.1 percent share of Nissan and Renault, and Nissan and Renault getting 1.55 percent of Daimler each. Basically this deal was just to allow the three automakers to freely share their technologies and testing.
It looks as if Renault is pretty close to calling on Daimler to make good on its deal, as Renault is working on a new flagship sedan that will use some Mercedes-Benz parts. This new flagship model is not all Renault is looking ahead to, as the French automaker is also debating releasing an entire lineup of luxury car with Daimler’s help.
The details are still rather sketchy, as they are still in preliminary talks and a lot of the information is from unconfirmed sources. One of the names for the new make that is being tossed around is Initiale Paris, which was once used on a 1995 Renault concept car.

Speeding in France is about to get a wee bit trickier to get away with now that the Gendarmerie are getting 70 Renault Megane RS police vehicles on the prowl.
The new Megane RS police car will replace the currentSubaru Impreza fleet and will come in the blue and yellow color scheme as other French police vehicle. The Gendarmerie have even opted for the “Chassis Cup” version, which is the model with the best handling at high speeds. The Megane RS is powered by a new-generation 2-liter 16-valve turbocharged petrol engine which boasts maximum power of 250hp at 5,500rpm and peak torque of 340Nm from 3,000rpm. The vehicle’s speed tops out at 155 mph, leaving the drivers with lead feet little opportunity to get away.
Renault chose Durisotti, an approved Renault coach-builder, to fully transform their new fleet into true police vehicles with the special equipment necessary to catch speedsters. The result of their work is shown in the photos provided.
Alain Prost, widely regarded as one of the fiercest Formula One drivers in history and the most heated rival of the late, great Ayrton Senna, is still hacking up race tracks in France these days, albeit on a much different terrain. The former Formula One Driver’s Champion’s competitive racing juices are now on full display at the Andros Trophy racing series, the national Ice Racing championship of France.
Last year, Prost raced behind the wheel of a Dacia Duster Ice Racer and proceeded to show everybody that despite his age, he still managed to finish runner-up for the season, trailing only two-time Andros champion Jean-Philippe Dayraut on-board his Fabia Skoda MKII.
This season, which is scheduled to begin on December 4th, Prost is looking to break through with his first Andros championship, and to help him achieve his goal, he’s got a brand new Dacia Duster Ice Racer waiting to be unleashed all over the icy terrains of France.
The new Duster Ice Racer underwent some engine and performance upgrades from last year’s model, giving Prost an even bigger chance to break the Skoda’s two-year stranglehold on the championship.
For one thing, the 55-year old racer is determined to prove that second place won’t be good enough this time around. “Last season, we were aware it would be tough to win the Trophée Andros with a new car, not to mention the fact that the program began at a relatively late stage” he said.
“This time round, my intention is to challenge for the title. We completed two very positive days of testing at Val Thorens last weekend. Our work on Duster has clearly paid dividends and we are convinced we have the means to make a strong start."

Evian Masters is a women’s professional golf tournament that began its course back in 1994. For over ten years, Renault and Evian Masters have partnered for this golf tournament. Through this partnership, Renault will provide a fleet of 90 vehicles to be used by officials and tournament organizers during the course of the event. To mark the Evian Masters tournament’s 17th edition Renault has unveiled a special edition Modus that will be limited to 500 units.
The new Modus Evian Masters is distinguished by its pink and white Evian Masters badging on the front wings and tailgate, as well as by its extra-tinted rear glass and aluminum alloy wheels. On the interior it receives gray upholstery contrasted with pink details (pink being the official color of the tournament) such as the edging of the front carpet mats and the organizer box ring. The interior ambiance is further enhanced by the split leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear lever knob, as well as by the satin-finish chrome center console and air vent surrounds.
The limited, special edition Modus will only be available in France starting at €17,150. They will be available this month.

Renault will unveil the special edition Laguna Coupé Monaco GP on April 9 at the Cabriolet, Coupé and SUV Show which will shortly open at the Porte de Versailles exhibition complex in Paris, France.
This special edition will be distinguished by a twotone pearlescent white and pearlescent black livery. The model comes with a leather interior trim, as well as such desirable technologies as Carminat TomTom navigation, Bose audio, xenon headlights and, above all, the acclaimed 4Control chassis which delivers impeccable roadholding.
Updated 04/13/2010: Renault unveiled today official details on the special edition Laguna Coupe Monaco GP that will go on sale in May at a price of €38,800. It will be limited to just 400 units. It will be available with a choice of four DPF-equipped diesel powertrains (dCi 150 with either six-speed manual or automatic transmission, dCi 180 with six-speed manual gearbox or 3.0 V6 dCi 235 with six-speed automatic transmission) and one petrol engine (3.5 V6 240 with six-speed automatic transmission).

A few days after Renault announced that two of its new concept cars, the Zoe ZE and the Twizy ZE Concept would be scheduled for launch in a few years, the French-based automaker has also announced that it would once dust-off the Gordini brand and add it to the Renault Sport range.
The announcement of the expected debut of the Twingo Gordini RS will be held at the L’Atelier Renault on the Champs Elysées on November 25.
The Gordini brand rose in popularity in the 60’s where over 200,000 units were sold at that time. The brand’s popularity crossed mainstream thresholds after the car appeared in a number of French films during the decade.
After riding off into the sunset shortly thereafter, Gordini is motoring back to give a new generation of car buyers the chance to sit behind the wheel of one of Renault’s most popular cars. To retain the classic look of the compact car, Renault has made it clear that it would uphold the Gordini tradition. What this means is that the cars styling – including the off-center double stripes that was a trademark of Gordini back then – will likely stay the course. Renault has still to shed light as to what drivetrain the new Gordini models will have and the announcement will more than likely happen on the 25th of November, the day the Twingo Gordini RS is unveiled in France.

In an age where manufactures are using hybrid or diesel technology to achieve high fuel mileage, Renault has refined the Twingo’s four-cylinder gasoline engine to get about 47 miles to the gallon. The name for this version of the car is long, Twingo 1.2 LEV 16V 75 eco, but it also describes the whole engine – 1.2-liter low emission vehicle with 16 valves making 75 horsepower.
This exact car has already been on sale in France, but the new version has 20% longer gear ratios, which allows for greater fuel economy and reduced emissions.
The car will begin to be sold in France later this month starting at €9,950 (about $17,600). It will also be marketed in Spain, Germany, Holland and Belgium, beginning in September. Renault does not sell to the U.S., and the last time we had a gas-only car here that could beat this Twingo was the Honda CRX HF and the Geo Metro XFi, both of which have not been sold here in over 15 years.
