Porsche has raised its ownership stake in Rimac, going from owning a minority share of 15.5 percent to 24 percent. 2019 Rimac C Two

The next generation of insane electric performance to take on the Tesla Roadster 2.0

At this point, it’s impossible to deny Rimac’s presence among the fastest of the fast in the automotive world. The Croatian brand first made a splash back in 2013 when it released its very first production vehicle – the Concept One. By 2014, all eight units of the limited production run were sold. In 2015, Rimac brought its EV speed slab to Colorado with the intention of competing in the very difficult Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, managing to take home a second-place trophy in the process. More recently, the Rimac has been featured as the upstart challenger lined up to take out more traditional street-legal internal combustion-powered supercars, and so far, its triumphed every time. Then there was that time Richard Hammond wadded one into a tight ball of flaming metal in a hill climb contest. The point is this – in the five or so years its been on the market, the Rimac Concept One has been making waves, and it has now established itself as the go-to for superlative all-electric performance. As you might expect, Tesla isn’t having it. In November of 2017, the California brand unveiled its own supercar killer – the Roadster 2.0, claiming such astronomical specs as 1.9 seconds in the 0-to-60 mph test and 10,000 Nm (7,376 pound-feet) of torque. Thing is, Tesla is gonna need to hurry up and get the next Roadster on the road, because Rimac already has an answer. Dubbed the “Concept Two” (Rimac is expected to give it a “real” name soon), this next-gen EV monster will take battery performance to a whole new level, with ever-higher four-figure output numbers and a 0-to-60 mph that looks to break into the high 1-second range, not to mention highly advanced self-driving tech.

The Rimac Concept Two promises to be a game changer in just about every way, and might have the Tesla Roadster 2.0 beat before it can even rolls off the production line. We should know more when Rimac drops the details at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show next week, but until then, read on for our full speculative review.

Despite being limited to just eight units, the Rimac Concept_One electric supercar served notice to the industry. Those are numbers that electric supercar dreams are made of, but they may pale in comparison to what Rimac is planning to serve up next. When you consider the fact that the Tesla Roadster isn’t heading to production until 2018, and that the new Rimac EV will likely be much more powerful than the Concept One, it’s quite possible Rimacs new EV could dethrone the outrageously powerful Roadster before it even enters production. Oh, and to top it off, Rimac is set to open five more retailers here in the States during 2018, which will – of course – carry both the Rimac Concept One and the upcoming Rimac Convertible that is yet to be named.

Rimac Is Coming For Seconds With Infusion Of Investment Money

A new electric supercar is on the way!

Of all the ambitious start-ups that promised machines of mayhem, few have actually been able to step up and keep up with the rest of business. One of those companies is Rimac, the creator of the Concept One electric supercar that made headlines recently when The Grand Tour presenter Richard Hammond crashed one in Switzerland. It was an ignominious end to one of only eight road-going Concept One models, but all’s not lost in the world of Rimac after the company announced a new $36 million investment that would allow it to finally expand its lineup beyond the vaunted Concept One.

The infusion of money came from Camel Group, a Shanghai-based company that’s regarded as the largest manufacturer of batteries in all of Asia. The specific details of the deal were not mentioned by either company, but the deal is termed as a subscription agreement, which essentially means that Rimac likely agreed to sell a certain number of shares to Camel Group in exchange for a specific amount ($36 million as it turns out) that the Chinese company has agreed to pay. Of that amount, Rimac is expected to gain a majority of the funds, but not all of it. Roughly $3.6 million of the amount will be sent over to Greyp electric bicycle company. As far as what Rimac plans to do with the new funds, no less than Mate Rimac, the founder of both Rimac and Greyp, made the company’s plans clear: build a new electric supercar to succeed the Concept One.

All-electric performance hits an inflection point

Electric vehicles are on the rise. The statement works figuratively if you consider the recent proliferation of new EV models and technology, but it also works literally considering the results from the 2015 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Crowding the podium at last year’s “Race to the Clouds” was a duo of all-electric racers – a first in the event’s nearly century-long history. One of those cars was the E-Runner Concept_One, a joint effort by Japanese racing driver Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima and Croatian EV-builder Rimac Automobili. Incredibly, Rimac is now gearing up to release a production version of the Concept_One, and it’s packing sensational styling, a lovingly crafted interior, and output figures with four digits.

As you can imagine, the road here hasn’t been an easy one. Rimac took five years to create the production-ready Concept_One, following an initial reveal in 2011 with four ground-up redesigns. Practically everything on the car was conceived, developed, and manufactured by Rimac in-house.

“My goal was to not to [sic] create an electric version of existing supercars,” said Mate Rimac, CEO of Rimac Automobili. “I wanted to create technology to make the supercar considerably better in every regard – faster, more fun and more efficient. I wanted to make the supercar of the 21st century.”

Simply put, this is Rimac’s magnum opus, a technological tour de force in every sense. But is the world’s first all-electric hypercar really ready for primetime?

Tajima Rimac E-Runner Concept One Delivers One Megawatt At Dyno: Video

The horsepower wars have yielded some pretty outrageous things over the years, with the latest breed of cutting-edge, go-fast machinery sporting specs and figures more in line with spacecraft or aircraft than ground-bound vehicles with four wheels. Even when running off batteries alone, the technology in play these days can be positively awe-inspiring. Case in point: the 2015 Tajima Rimac E-Runner Concept_One, seen here laying down some extreme power on the dyno.

The video kicks off with quick shots of the car coming together at the hands of Rimac Automobili’s team of engineers, before the whole thing is strapped down for a blast on the rollers. Following this, you’ll see the E-Runner squat and go, while a shrill, hyper-powered turbine whine crescendos with the increasing wheel speed. You almost half expect to see the thing jump into hyperspace.

The result? One megawatt of output, or roughly 1,340 horsepower.

Not bad for a blender. The E-Runner is slated to appear at the 2015 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb later this month, where it will compete under the Electric Class category for the famous Race to the Clouds.

Behind the wheel will be Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima, an iconic driver in the motorsport world who also owns Monster Sport, the shop that built the E-Runner in conjunction with Rimac Automobili.

With about twice the output of last year’s car and a slew of new technology, the new E-Runner is expected to demolish last year’s time of 9 minutes, 43.09 seconds (the current Electric Class benchmark is 9 minutes, 8.188 seconds, as set last year by Greg Tracy in the 2014 Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution III). And with no power loss due to the high altitude, expect the mega-EV to be mighty competitive with the dino-juice burners as well.

Look for the E-Runner to make its appearance in Colorado on June 28th.

When it comes to stature, recognition and overall appeal, the exclusive Rimac Concept One still can’t hold a candle to the world famous Ferrari 458 Italia.

But everything else, well, that’s a different story.

In an attempt to show off the Concept One to the wealthy market in the Middle East, Croatian automaker, Rimac, decided to show what exactly its electric supercar is capable of. We already know the numbers: 1,073 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque, courtesy of four-in-wheel electric motors to go with a curb weight of 1,650 kg and a 0-to-100 km/h (62 mph) time of just 2.8 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 189 mph.

The Concept One’s capabilities were in full display after Rimac decided to pit it against the 458 Italia in a good ’ol drag race to see which car has the leg up over the other.

It must be said, though, that the 458 Italia’s 562 horses doesn’t come close to the numbers the Concept One can produce, but the whole point of the race, at least as far we’re concerned, is to show everyone with the money to spare - about $1 million, give or take - that the Concept One is worthy of all that dough.

And quite frankly, we agree.

It’s not every day the words "BMW M3" and "Electric" get thrown together, but today is one of those days. Rimac Automobili - yes, the same guys that introduced the Concept One - have taken a 1984 BMW M3 and converted it to an electric piece of automotive wonder.

The idea came about when Mate Rimac - the founder of Rimac Automobili - blew out the engine of his Bimmer while racing. He then started to read about how to develop electric vehicles and after one year of work, his end result netted him a heavy and not very powerful vehicle with a very limited range. Since that time, Rimac’s BMW has gone through five development phases during which almost everything about the car was changed. The time Rimac spent on this vehicle and the help he received from experts in the electric car field, gave way to the Rimac e-M3, which has become one of the fastest and most exciting electric cars in the world. Its electric motor delivers a total of 600 HP and 664 lb-ft of torque, which sprints the car from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds up to a top speed of 174 mph. It also has a range of 111 miles.

The Rimac e-M3 has already smashed five world records (three of which are still waiting for official FIA approval) when he took the car on a two-mile long military runway near Zagreb on April 17th, 2011.

This year’s Concorso d’Eleganza brought together some of the most amazing models out there. No doubt that the most impressive ones were the new BMW Zagato Coupe or the Aston Martin Project AM 310. But next to them people could admire supercars previously announced and equally impressive.

One of them was the Rimac Concept One - quite an unexpected presence near the Italian lakes.

Rimac Concept One is an impressive electric supercar built by Croatians and announced to be put into limited production: only 88 units will be produced, each unit coming with a price tag of €740,000 ($980,000 at the current rates).

Concept One features a unique powertrain which is divided into four sub-systems, each consisting of one motor and delivering an impressive 1,088 HP and 2,802 lb/ft of torque. It can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in only 2.8 seconds and up to a top speed of 189 mph.

After being teased for quite some time now, the Rimac Concept One has finally made its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Concept One is not only the proof that "supercar" and "electric" can be used in the same sentence, but it also previews a limited edition model that will arrive in 2013 in a quantity of only 88 units.

Mind blowing as it is to comprehend, Rimac is promising an output that’s unheard of for an electric sports car. Concept One uses a unique powertrain which is divided into four sub-systems, each consisting of one motor, inverter and reduction gearbox. With a total output of 1,088 HP and 2,802 lb/ft of torque, the Concept One will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in only 2.8 seconds and comes with an electronically limited top speed of 189 mph.

The Concept One is the work of some of the most famous designers around the world. The carbon-fiber body is designed by Adriano Mudri, while the interior is designed by a team of former Pininfarina employees, led by Mr. Goran Popović.

UPDATE 04/20/12: The Rimac Concept One has been on display at the 2012 Top Marques Monaco, which was the perfect opportunity for the company to unveil new images of the supercar. Check them out in the picture gallery!
