Rivian’s Next Model Will Shake Legacy Automakers to Their Core
Even if established back in 2009, nobody paid attention to Rivian until 2019 when the company unveiled the R1S SUV and the R1T truck. Both models have taken the market by surprise and proven themselves to be very successful. In fact, Rivian is so sure about its success that it invested billions in new factories. Its main goal is to become a serious competitor to Tesla.
The future looks very busy for Rivian: after it trademarked two new names: the R1V and R2X in 2020, new rumors suggest a more powerful, luxurious R1X SUV is also under development.
Why the Rivian R1T Will Be The Benchmark for All Electric Trucks
The Rivian R1T has taken the pickup truck segment by storm. And, this isn’t an exaggeration. The decade-old startup has managed to bring out a truck that has covered almost all the bases quite well. It’s strong on power (800+ horses), performance (0-60 mph in three seconds), range (400 miles), technology (tank turn, gear guard, etc.), and even towing capacity (11,000 pounds). Even though EVs are the future, a lot of people have still not warmed up to the idea of them for a variety of reasons. The Rivian R1T, however, is that EV you tell those people about and they’ll feel a little more confident about them. Despite there being a plethora of electric trucks in the market now - the Ford F-150 Lightning, the GMC Hummer EV, and the Tesla Cybertruck, to name a few – here’s why the R1T will be the one standing tall.
The Rivian R1S Has Impressive Acceleration But It’s Not Tesla Fast
Back when Tesla founded the EV segment, its goal was to make its patents open for use by other manufacturers. Back in 2008, Tesla released its first car, the Roadster, and started the EV revolution. Fast-forward to nowadays, and we have start-up manufacturers like Rivian, which already has models that are easily rivaling the Tesla offerings. The Rivian R1S is the more practical sibling to the R1T pickup truck and it boasts some impressive figures. Can it live up to the factory-claimed figures though? YouTube channel The Fast Lane Car provides an answer.
Top 10 EVs With The Longest Range In 2022
EVs have dawned upon us and have become competent mainstream alternatives to cars with internal combustion engines in the last few years. While their performance was never in doubt, available range has led to some pretty extreme anxiety. The range was one of the major reasons why most folks were skeptical about switching to green cars. But, things are quite different now. Technology is getting better every single day and automakers are able to improve the range of cars like never before. Gone are the days when achieving even 400 miles of range was a distant dream. Today, cars like Lucid Air offer more than 500 miles of range and Tesla more than 400 miles. Concept cars like the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX claim to offer over 600 miles of range. It won’t be too long before that becomes a reality, too. For now, here is a list of EVs that offer the best range in 2022.

Elon Musk Confirms That The Tesla Cybertruck With Four Electric Motors Is Coming!
There were rumors of a quad-motor setup making the cut in the Cybertruck, and the EV czar, Elon Musk, has now confirmed the same. Replying to a tweet, Musk said that a four-motor variant will hit the production line first. What’s more, the truck will also have Tank Turn and Crab modes! Talk about taking the Rivian R1T and the GMC Hummer EV’s most-talked features.
What is the Cheapest Rivian?
The R1T pickup truck is the cheapest offering from Rivian’s stable as of now. It starts at $69,000. If you compare it to the Tesla pickup truck, which will start under $50,000 according to Elon Musk, it seems to be priced a little premium-like. But it is fairly loaded with stuff like an 15.6-inch touchscreen system that is the biggest we’ve ever seen to date on a production vehicle, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster that displays all relevant data and much more. There is a horizontal hole in the truck which is disguised as a storage space but it actually lies where the gear tunnel would go in a combustion engine. Even the front trunk, or frunk, is fairly large at 11.6-cubic feet.
What is the Sportiest Rivian?
A tough call, but the R1T is the sportiest offering from Rivian, mainly because of its versatility and ruggedness. The R1T is powered by four electric motors - one on each wheel - that produce 197 horsepower each. When working in tandem, the R1T has 788 ponies at its disposal that helps it hit the 60 mph mark from a standstill in 4.9 seconds with the smallest 105-kWh battery pack, 3.2 seconds with the 180-kWh battery (that’s the largest, by the way), and three seconds flat with the 135-kWh pack. The mid-sized battery pack is the fastest because of its weight. Another sporty feature is the adjustable air suspension that can raise the R1T from 7.9 inches to 14.2 inches by the press of a button.
What is the Most Popular Rivian?
The vehicles have not been launched yet, so, it’s tough to comprehend that. But by the sheer curiosity and the liveliness of the segment, it’s got to be the R1T pickup truck. The truck is in a three-way battle with Tesla’s pickup truck and the all-electric Ford F-150 and has created enough hype to keep the enthusiasts on their toes.
What is the Most Expensive Rivian?
The R1S SUV starts at $72,000. It comes with four electric motors placed on each wheel. In its highest capacity, the R1S can cover 410 miles on a single charge with its 180-kWh battery. The quad-motor setup produces a combined output of 700 horses and 826 pound-feet of torque. Mind you, this seven-seater SUV can speed to 60 mph in less than three seconds.
What is the Fastest Rivian?
The official figures for the R1S are not out yet, but the company claims the 0-60 mph sprint is doable in under three seconds. The R1T pickup truck, on the other hand, has different timings depending on the battery capacities. The smallest 105-kWh battery pack truck can sprint to 60 mph from a standstill in 4.9 seconds, the 180-kWh battery-spec in 3.2 seconds, while the 135-kWh battery pack can pull it off in and three seconds flat. Both the vehicles, in all their battery capacities, have the same top speed of 125 mph (200 km/h).
Are Rivian Cars Reliable?
Since the cars are not launched yet, we cannot comment on reliability. But since big shots like Amazon and Ford have stakes in it, we expect it to be rated highly. Time will tell.
