• 2011 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe

LISTEN 03:09

The Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe was revealed in 2007 at the Detroit Auto Show and it was quick to wow the whole world. But now, after four years of production, it was high time for it to receive some improvements. The changes may not be drastic, but they are enough to make the ride sportier than before. For the 2011 model year, the Phantom not only receives interior and exterior updates, but will also get new suspension components and a transmission calibration. No changes were made under the hood, but who needs more than a 6.75 liter naturally aspirated V12 engine anyway?

The car still keeps its design inspiration it received from the 100EX concept, but will get a restyled rear seat, a new steering wheel with a thicker rim, and new colors for both the interior and the exterior of the car. Of course, these updates come with a higher price tag. The 2011 Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe’s price will jump from $443,000 to $452,000.

Exterior and Interior

The Phantom Drophead Coupe features a long bonnet, large-diameter wheels, short front and long rear overhangs, and the quintessential dynamic line descending along its flanks. It also carries a folding soft-top roof that it stows in a relatively small space resulting in a luggage compartment that remains unaffected regardless of whether the roof is up or down. For the interior it gets a restyled rear seat and a new steering wheel with a thicker rim.

The Engine

The 2011 Phantom Drophead Coupe is powered by a 6.75 liter naturally aspirated V12 engine that delivers an impressive 453 HP at 5,350 rpm and 531 lb-ft at 3,500 rpm. These numbers are just enough to sprint the almost 3-tonne car to 60 mph in just 5.7-seconds and make it capable of hitting a top speed of 149 mph.

The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that sends the power to the rear wheels. An added elements for 2011 is an "S" button on the steering wheel that, when pressed, will help the transmission hold a lower gear for longer and shift down more readily under braking.

The world of luxury convertibles is offering lots of alternatives so if you want to choose something other than the Phantom you can opt for the Bentley Continental GTC , the Ferrari California, or the Maserati GranTurismo.

If you’re interested in luxury than the Rolls Royce or the Bentley models are the ones for you, but if you want something sportier then you should definitely go for the Ferrari or the Maserati. However, any of the three above are faster than the Rolls Royce model.

The 2011 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe will go on sale at a price of $452,000.

I wonder why there are lots that want a convertible version of Roll Royce’s car. The power output of the V12 here is kind of disappointing. I think it could have reached up to 600 + hp.

The headlight of this coupe is so cute! smiley Anyway, I was amazed by its too expensive market price, and I wonder if why it had that kind of price? Well, just like them, I also noticed that it is not a luxury vehicle.

This is insane. This car is just for old man. That’s why I’m not fond of Roll-Royce. All of their cars are almost the same, few changes, then that’s it? This is a total shock.

I wonder why does this car competing those luxurious convertible listed above they sound so ambitious. I don’t think that this car would sell.

For almost four years, all they can do is to make a slight modification for this car? Why do they need to wait such a long time before deciding to upgrade this version? I was hoping for a more drastic changes.

hmm. For a v12 technology, I think its figure performance is quite less powerful. Rolls-Royce needs to boost the power of this car or else this modern technology would be useless!

Just like what they did before. We already knew as soon as it get launch, the price would be higher compared to their previous models.

Its from Rolls-Royce, one of the most elegant cars I’ve ever since in my entire life. Everybody loves to own this one. But am sure, ordinary people can’t afford to own one.

hmm. I know that Roll Royce is the suggested car for wealthy people and its a brand for luxury. However, I really can’t appreciate the vintage beauty of this car. The body of this car is like a matchbox!

Dropahead to the new concept, Its quite formal yet good appealing ability that spice up your taste.

Wow! I can’t believe that this car is actually powered with V12! I can’t really stand to looked at the design. The design has no appeal on me and $443,000 is quiet pricey!

This car is awesome but its price tag doesn’t justify! I think some specs is the same with the Bentley Flying Spur which is basically based from VW Phantom!

Rolls-Royce 2011 model is absolutely can roll your eyes because of its good looks aside from the looks its definitely the capacity to travel in a very dynamic rank of speed.

lovely R8, the engine sounds is so nice, you can hear the power inside the hood. plus the looks is dang so good, but i must admit that I love the GT-R than this.

This is the Rolls-Royce for which we’ve been waiting, an effective combination of German quality and engineering with a sure sense of English style, a car that promises to be interesting to drive as well as visually stunning
