Scion has teamed up with Toyo Tires to bring four customized vehicles to the SEMA show that runs from November 3rd to November 6th. There will be four vehicles presented from Scion, one of which is presented by Scion-lifestyle partner Skybound Entertainment.
Skybound Entertainment has made an evil twin of the standard 2016 Scion iA, and it is based on Robert Kirkman’s latest comic book, Outcast. The car, which goes by the name “Outcast” was designed to move and operate on its own, while displaying sequenced light and audio effects. The roof of the car can gyrate, smoke and even change colors while emitting spooky sounds that give the impression that the car is demonically possessed.
The car was built by 5 Axis – a concept vehicle design and fabrication studio, and its modification was managed by Project Leader Geoff Curtis. So, know that you know the basics of the car, click past the jump to get all the details.

The rear-drive, two-door FR-S certainly has the right bones for making it big as an all-out race car. With a low curb weight and a highly tunable four-cylinder under the hood, the potential for a podium finish is there. However, with something so new, development time is required to make the transition from untested to competitive. It’s only after grinding through tons of mistakes that a real track champion is born.
One team that certainly paid its dues was All American Racers, headed by racing legend Dan Gurney. Back in the 80s, AAR entered a trio of Toyota Celicas in the highly popular International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) GTU class to take on the dominant Mazda RX-7. Although the team enjoyed limited success, hard work and relentless development yielded a competitive set of cars by the end of the season. When AAR and the Toyotas moved up to the GTO class, they started to win races.
As a throwback to the IMSA era of GT racing in the U.S., Speedhunters created this FR-S track special for the Scion Racing Tuner Challenge. The challenge is between three media outlets to create the ultimate FR-S in the 90-day lead-in to SEMA. With a budget of $15,000, each competitor is allowed free reign to build a car to wow the judges.
This year, Speedhunters managed to take home the win (along with a $10,000 check). The judges liked the retro theme and custom fabrication personally wrought by technical editor Keith Charnovia, as well as all the cleanly executed performance upgrades. Congratulations, Speedhunters!

In stock trim, the Scion FR-S is simply fantastic. It’s light, agile, and practically begging to be flogged. However, there’s always room for improvement; at least that’s how the folks at Super Street see it. The performance magazine is known for utterly transforming any car its folks lay their hands on, and have extensive experience rendering modifications that produce both substantial performance improvements and show-stopping looks.
The FR-S you see here is no different. It’s Super Street’s entry for the Scion Racing Tuner Challenge; a 90-day race between three media outfits to complete the baddest FR-S before an official reveal at SEMA. In an online poll, Super Street managed to beat out both GT Channel and Speedhunters by a convincing margin. The real question is- what will the judges think?
With one recent FR-S build already under its belt, Super Street has the history to back it. IT also knows what it takes to make a car stand out in a field of top contenders. The strategy employed here is clear: “wider, wilder, and louder.” With a $15,000 budget and enough yellow paint to cover a fleet of school buses, can it take home the win?

Few vehicles represent a love for driving better than a small, rear-wheel-drive, two-door coupe. There’s no space for cargo or excess passengers and no compromise in the layout; it’s all about maximizing the interface between the driver and the road, quickening your pulse, and plastering a big banana grin all over your face. There are precious few cars that meet all these criteria, but the Scion FR-S is undoubtedly one of them.
Launched in 2012, the FR-S, and its corporate twin the Subaru BRZ, quickly became the darlings of automotive journalists everywhere. The car is extremely tossable, with a suspension setup that almost encourages sideways hooning, while the naturally aspirated boxer four-cylinder provides adequate power for canyon carving.
To help celebrate the supreme awesomeness of this lead-foot daydream, Scion has dared GT Channel, SuperStreet, and Speedhunters to deliver their idea of the ultimate FR-S. Dubbed the Scion Racing Tuner Challenge, each publication was given a new FR-S, a $15,000 budget, and 90 days to complete their creation before the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
With only a few days left until the big event, you can be sure that crunch time is officially on.
GT Channel partnered with MotoIQ and legendary Japanese tuning house Mine’s to produce this FR-S under the guiding principle of “smart, sophisticated and stupid fast.” As a tuner car, the team wanted to build something that was functional and not simply a show queen. It’s a build designed to trounce competitors on the track, but still maintain some degree of civility on the street.

Scion is definitely swinging for the fences with its SEMA offerings. Don’t believe me? Check out this targa-top FR-S and tell me that isn’t a fresh take on the company’s sports coupe. The model is called the FR-S T1 and it was built by Jeremy Lookofsky of Cartel Customs. Give some applause to Lookofsky for going against the grain with this targo-top FR-S.
Now I’ve seen some convertible FR-S models here and there, but a targa roof? That’s new to me.
The roof is the unquestioned eye-catcher of this custom-built FR-S, but Lookofsky didn’t stop there. He also gave the FR-S T1 a wide-body kit, slapped on a set of wheels, and added in some performance upgrades.
For my money, you’re not going to see a Scion FR-S that looks as cool as this one. Scion and Jeremy Lookofsky swung hard on this project and nailed it out of the park.

Things don’t get much groovier than this; Riley Hawk’s Skate Tour xB outfitted with all the proper accessories for America’s 1970s van culture. The Scion is destined for the SEMA show happening November 4th through 7th in Las Vegas where the unsuspecting crowd will surely be transfixed by this car-turned-van.
The man responsible for this cultured creation is Scott Kanemura of KMA Productions. He helped Hawk turn childhood memories into reality by bringing back all the classic parts that make ‘70s conversion vans special. “Every element of this Scion xB represents some part of my life,” Hawk says. “I’m looking forward to showing it at SEMA and having people check it out!”
And check it out they will. This “van” has it all. The exterior is compete with hoop-style manual chrome mirrors, chrome grille inserts, Cragar S/S wheels wrapped in fat rubber with raised white letters, a high-roof kit, fish bowl rear windows, and (non-functional) side pipes. The most obvious change is the orange, yellow, and brown stripe job covering the entire vehicle. Mr. B.A. Baracus would be jealous.
Of course, Kanemura had to tie in Hawks love of skateboarding. The back hatch opens up to reveal a mini workshop for tinkering on boards. Even smaller is the pint-sized halfpipe for Tech Decks. The high roof kit opens up to reveal more storage for full-size boards while a rack on the xB’s tailgate holds two additional boards.

The Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) Show holds a very special place in our hearts, largely because it’s a different take on what an auto show traditionally is. Instead of debuting production cars or unveiling concept cars, SEMA is the place where automakers show off customized versions of their respective production models. This year, Scion was one of the first to unveil its SEMA plans when it released the first details on its SEMA-bound models, including the Slayer-inspired "Mobile Amp" tC sports coupe.
The Slayer Mobile Amp tC is far from a sheep wearing wolf’s clothing. It’s an all-out assault to your senses, a living (albeit on four wheels) embodiment of Slayer’s aggressive and style of music. The exterior and interior of the tC sports coupe received equal amounts of details attributed to Slayer as it was built by Mike Vu of MV DESIGNZ. This program isn’t for the weak of heart, as the company did not settle for anything less than to make Tom Araya and the rest of the band proud to have their names attached to it.

There’s a storm brewing over at Cosworth, the kind that can redefine the way we look at the Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S, and Toyota GT86. The aftermarket company known for its engine forays in the world of Formula One prepared a new power package treatment for the FA-20 engine that powers all three.
After some teasing in early 2014, Cosworth has finally bared the details on this new power package and it has come at a perfect time for the trio of sports cars. It’s a performance upgrade that has turned the normally tame 200-horsepower sports cars into a fire-breathing bullets that are poised to dominate the automotive scene.
Finally, we can alleviate some of our issues with the BRZ/FR-S/GT86 trio with a healthy injection of power, courtesy of Cosworth. Now, if only we can get the automakers to finally add some of this power straight from the factory, instead of slapping on silly body kits and flashy wheels.
Cosworth’s program comes in three stages, with the details on Stage 1 being the only ones that are available as of June 2, 2014.

It looks like the Scion FR-S will be one of the major stars at this year’s SEMA Show. Scion prepared no less than four concept cars based on the FR-S, and we are pretty sure we will see more than these in Las Vegas.
One of the four concepts was designed in cooperation with Bulletproof Automotive and transforms the obedient FR-S into a 500-horsepower beast with an exterior paint conversion inspired by Lamborghini.
A base FR-S delivers only 200 horsepower, so you can imagine that taking it up to 500 horsepower required lots of work. To achieve this massive number, Bulletproof installed a new, Powerhouse Amuse turbo kit with a EFR 6758 turbocharger, new titanium turbo downpipe and front pipe, 86.5 mm overbore pistons, upgraded rods and ACL bearings. There is also a new Amuse Titan Extra STTI exhaust system. The concept can run on both 91 octane and E85 fuels.

The Scion FR-S holds a special place in our hearts as part of a trinity of sports cars that have taken the world by storm.
In probably one of the most understated statements of the year, we’re not the only ones who love the FR-S. Apparently, world renowned DJ and producer Steve Aoki is himself quite a fan of the FR-S, so much so that a specially-modded version of the Japanese sports car is coming to the 2013 SEMA Auto Show packed with a host of features that can only come from the genius mind of Aoki.
The car itself is called the FR-S Steve Aoki Art Car, although what kind of interpretation you have for ’art’ is valid for interpretation. In this case, Aoki went balls to the wall on the interior, dressing up the FR-S’ cabin with a steady mix of high-grade audio components that essentially turns the FR-S’ interior into a veritable — and portable — club.
A host of sound system products from Pioneer were installed with multiple component speaker packages. Custom components from MV Designz were also designed and fabricated to use with all that explosion of audio technica. And just to keep the club vibe going, the FR-S’ interior somehow also found room for strobe lighting, a deck lid-mounted LCD display and a fog machine.
By the way, don’t sleep on the FR-S’ exterior package, because the combination of that five-piece aerodynamic kit and the custom graphics (the blue and orange trims on the black body look absolutely stunning) makes for a really attractive piece of eye candy.

Is it possible that the positively incredible-looking Scion FR-S could look even better when given proper aesthetic and aerodynamic enhancements?
Somehow, Scion was able to accomplish that with the FR-S Urban GT Sport Concept. Set to make its debut at the 2013 SEMA Auto Show, the FR-S Urban GT Sport Concept, or as its known in shorthand, "Style J", takes the reigns of the standard FR-S and turns it into a more menacing and downright scary sports car.
Scion describes the project as a "futuristic urban design" of the FR-S that not only incorporates a more luxurious feel to it, but also comes with a rash of technological upgrades that would fit right in with its rather furious looks.
The modifications left the FR-S with a host of new components, including a revised front profile that features a new grille configuration, new front bumpers, new fenders, and most noticeable of all, a sharper-looking headlight configuration.
The rear end also received a more polished look, with the rear bumpers designed more ergonomically than the standard FR-S. The rear diffuser also appears to be bigger with the wheel arches extended a little further to create a more staunch look for the FR-S.
The reworked FR-S also gets the benefit of having a set of 19-inch wheels in its portfolio, courtesy of HRE Performance. The suspension was likewise taken care of by Bilstein, while the ADVICS took on the brakes, installing its Big Brake System to complement all the suspension and wheels upgrades.
Judging from the specs that Scion unveiled, it appears that the Urban GT Sport Coupe received a subtle performance upgrade with output now reaching 216 horsepower and 163 pound-feet of torque, a slight increase from the 200-horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque figures from the standard R-S.

We’ve seen GReddy Racing do some pretty gnarly things on the Scion FR-S, and just when it seemed that we’d had enough of them, the aftermarket company is coming to the 2013 SEMA Auto Show with another heavily-modded FR-S.
This time, the official billing of this model is the FR-S Racing Drift and just like GReddy’s previous FR-S projects, this one comes with a ton of upgrades, highlighted by a GReddy turbocharged 2JZ-GTE engine. With that engine firmly installed on the FR-S, the Japanese sports coupe now boasts of a staggering output of 750 horsepower and 730 pound-feet of torque, a ridiculous number considering that the standard FR-S only has 200 ponies and 151 pound-feet of torque on tap.
But that’s how GReddy Racing rolls and if the massive performance upgrade isn’t enough to tickle your fancy, the program also has a Rocket Bunny Ver.2 aerodynamic kit to go with a new set of 19-inch Rays Gram Lights 57FXX wheels, Wilwood brakes, and a KW Competition three-way suspension setup with SPL Parts Arms.
The interior didn’t receive a whole lot of upgrades, at least unless you condor FIA racing seats and a Takata Racing Race 6 SFI harness as a "lot".

Here’s something you probably didn’t know: this Greddy Racing-prepared Scion FR-S that will suit up at the 2013 Formula Drift Pro Championships has been under Scion’s development covers since before the production FR-S was unveiled to the public.
That’s a pretty interesting history for a racecar that certainly has the racing pedigree down to a hilt. It comes with a GReddy X Rocket Bunny body kit, a KW Competition three-way suspension setup and a set of 17- and 18-inch Rays Gram Lights 57DR wheels wrapped in Hankook RS-3 tires.
To prepare it for the intense competition of the Formula Drift Pro Championship, GReddy Racing prepared this FR-S to be a bona fide world beater. It features a 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder engine that’s been outfitted with a GReddy turbocharger, thus increasing the output to a staggering 650 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque, which is an increase of 450 horsepower and 399 pound-feet of torque over a stock FR-S. This GReddy-tuned engine mates to a G-Force GSR four-speed transmission and the complete package is enough to rocket this FR-S to 60 mph in just 2.83 seconds and through a quarter-mile in just 10.4 seconds.
With an entire year of testing and development under the hood of this FR-S, there’s no doubt that GReddy Racing and driver Ken Gushi are parepared to take the Formula Drift Pro Championship by storm.

Lucas Oil KSR announced its racing version of the Scion FR-S at the 2012 SEMA Show and since then the model underwent extreme testing with the final challenge being the 2013 Pirelli World Challenge. The competition started on March 22nd with the GT/GTS Rounds 1 and 2 and will end on October 4th with GT/GTS Round 14.
Lucas Oil equipped the FR-S with the world’s first TRD supercharger built specifically for the sports car. It was enough to pump the 2.0-liter boxer-four engine’s output up to a total of 325 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. That’s an increase of 125 horsepower and 174 pound feet of torque. By our count, that’s a 62.5-percent increase in horsepower and a 115.2-percent increase in torque.
This hopped-up four-banger hooks up to a six-speed manual gearbox, but there is no mention to whether this is the stock transmission or not. Though Lucas Oil chose not to divulge the performance stats of its beast, we would venture to say it hits 60 mph in the mid-4-second range.
Lucas oil engineers also fitted the FR-S with an aerodynamic kit specially designed for the racing and sat it atop a set of 18-inch Rays TE37 SL Black Edition wheels. The Rays rollers are wrapped in high-performance Pirelli P-Zero tires sized 275/45R18. Also added in is a TRD braking system and a suspension system from Cusco/Vertex.
During the competition, this Scion FR-S by Lucas Oil KSR will be driven by Robert Stout, who was previously a champion in a Scion tC.

Canadian tuner, SR Auto Group, has a habit of releasing some of the most unique and impressive programs you’ll ever see. Its latest work, which it worked on in collaboration with Openroad Scion, further solidifies that point.
Using a stock Scion FR-S, SR Auto Group decked it with a comprehensive aerodynamic body kit, giving it a new and far more imposing appearance that no standard FR-S can even come close to.
The car, which has since been rechristened as Rocket Bunny, is fully kitted, complete with wide-body fender flares, a new front lip, side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a large rear GT wing. But that’s not all. It also has a couple Seibon parts in a new carbon-fiber hood and fog light covers. Carbon-fiber side mirrors from APR have all been added, as were bespoke smoked headlight housings and candy red taillight surroundings.
The final pieces of this stunning program include a set of 18-inch "Winning Blue" Rays Gram Lights 57 Extreme wheels, an Invidia catback exhaust system to further bolster the sports car’s performance credentials and a set of fully adjustable BC Racing coilovers with a 10 kg (22-pound) spring rate.
While it doesn’t have any straightforward performance enhancements, we can surmise that with the new exhaust, together with all those new aero kits, the Rocket Bunny FR-S has a little more roar to it than stock FR-S models.
