Scion’s vice president Andrew Gilleland says, “Scion is known for doing things differently, and maybe even being a little weird." The brand’s crossover concept, unveiled at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, is a perfect illustration of this philosophy. The Scion C-HR is a wild and stylish vehicle, communicating equal parts capability and performance. And here’s the twist: this funky little vehicle isn’t a sports coupe, it’s a crossover.
You may have seen the C-HR before. This car started life as a design concept, and was shown as the Toyota C-HR "design study" in 2014 at the Paris Motor Show. It also surfaced in Frankfurt and was discussed at the Tokyo Motor Show. The C-HR has had a few refinements since then and now it’s resurfaced with the green light to become Scion’s first crossover, and sooner than the wild sheetmetal might have you believe.
The brand has gone back and forth on whether it will produce a crossover, with public statements both positive and negative over the past six months. The speculation’s over now: the C-HR is going into production in 2016 and Scion may show off the final version as early as the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March. The radical styling and compact all-wheel drive platform will put it into competition with the Nissan Juke, Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3 and Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, among others.

If you’re familiar with ABC’s TV series Fresh off the boat, then you know something about Eddie Huang. The TV series depicts Eddie’s life in the early 90’s as he grew up in the suburbs of Orlando. Outside the TV show, which was adapted from his book, Eddie Huang was a lawyer who eventually became a chef and now runs BaoHaus restaurant in New York City. Now, Eddie, who is a Scion lifestyle partner, has designed his own 2016 Scion iA that is said to embrace the culture of Los Angeles and have a modern take on the classic lowrider.
Eddie’s custom iA will debut on November 3rd in Las Vegas at SEMA, but we’ve already been blessed with a number of pictures that give us a great preview of what we’ll see in the metal. Eddie went all out on this bad boy, with the help of Scott Kanemura at KMA industries who completed the build. For starters, the car has all the basics of a low rider – Airbag suspension with four-wheel control, swivel front seats and even a chain-link steering wheel. Of course, no low rider would be complete without the gold, wire wheels but that is just the beginning for this Scion.

The 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show is just around the corner, and although Toyota isn’t planning on revealing any new production vehicles like it did last year, it’s bringing a couple of intriguing concept cars to display, one of which is the Scion iM. Scion isn’t doing too well these days; most of its offerings are dated and the brand’s future is rather uncertain. However, it seems Scion is thinking outside the box in Los Angeles with a concept car that transforms an otherwise plebeian Toyota into a track-ready hot hatch.
The vehicle in question is the Auris compact, which has yet to reach U.S. shores since its introduction in 2006. It’s indeed awkward for Scion to meddle with a vehicle that’s not available on these shores, but I’m glad it did, as the iM Concept is an aggressively styled hatch with plenty of performance upgrades. Granted, the Auris isn’t a particularly exciting car, but the iM Concept looks like it has a decidedly sporty bend to it. Read on to find out what makes this concept a vehicle Scion needs to approve for mass production.
Updated 11/20/2014: The new Scion iM concept made its world debut at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. According to the company the iM is a preview version of a versatile five-door compact hatchback that will arrive in dealerships in 2015 at a price starting under $20k.

The rear-drive, two-door FR-S certainly has the right bones for making it big as an all-out race car. With a low curb weight and a highly tunable four-cylinder under the hood, the potential for a podium finish is there. However, with something so new, development time is required to make the transition from untested to competitive. It’s only after grinding through tons of mistakes that a real track champion is born.
One team that certainly paid its dues was All American Racers, headed by racing legend Dan Gurney. Back in the 80s, AAR entered a trio of Toyota Celicas in the highly popular International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) GTU class to take on the dominant Mazda RX-7. Although the team enjoyed limited success, hard work and relentless development yielded a competitive set of cars by the end of the season. When AAR and the Toyotas moved up to the GTO class, they started to win races.
As a throwback to the IMSA era of GT racing in the U.S., Speedhunters created this FR-S track special for the Scion Racing Tuner Challenge. The challenge is between three media outlets to create the ultimate FR-S in the 90-day lead-in to SEMA. With a budget of $15,000, each competitor is allowed free reign to build a car to wow the judges.
This year, Speedhunters managed to take home the win (along with a $10,000 check). The judges liked the retro theme and custom fabrication personally wrought by technical editor Keith Charnovia, as well as all the cleanly executed performance upgrades. Congratulations, Speedhunters!

Scion is definitely swinging for the fences with its SEMA offerings. Don’t believe me? Check out this targa-top FR-S and tell me that isn’t a fresh take on the company’s sports coupe. The model is called the FR-S T1 and it was built by Jeremy Lookofsky of Cartel Customs. Give some applause to Lookofsky for going against the grain with this targo-top FR-S.
Now I’ve seen some convertible FR-S models here and there, but a targa roof? That’s new to me.
The roof is the unquestioned eye-catcher of this custom-built FR-S, but Lookofsky didn’t stop there. He also gave the FR-S T1 a wide-body kit, slapped on a set of wheels, and added in some performance upgrades.
For my money, you’re not going to see a Scion FR-S that looks as cool as this one. Scion and Jeremy Lookofsky swung hard on this project and nailed it out of the park.

The second winner of this year’s Scion Tuner Challenge is Josh Croll from Mertztown, Pa. and the owner of Croll’s Customs. Just like the two other winners, he received a stock 2014 tC plus $15,000 to design and modify the car within 90 days. The model is now on display at the 2013 SEMA Show, next to all the other tuning kits from Scion.
Croll opted to design the only right-hand drive tC in the world. His car features a flashy hot-rod orange color, Croll also gave the timid tC an aggressive look by way of a set of wide wheels housed by a wide-body kit. In designing the car, Croll took inspiration from every aspect of the automotive lifestyle, given his goal was to create a vehicle loaded with everything you need to have fun, while remaining functional.
Croll started his work under the hood where he increased the output to 324 horsepower. To achieve this massive boost in power — up from the stock 179 horsepower — the tuner installed a Dezod Motorsports turbo kit with a Garrett turbocharger, replaced the manifold and the intercooler pipes, added a new 2.5-inch intake system and installed a new DEI titanium exhaust system.

A while ago, Scion announced its usual "Tuner Challenge" competition for the upcoming 2013 SEMA Show. From all the entries the tuner had to select only three winners and each of them received a stock 2014 tC plus $15,000 to design and modify the car within 90 days.
One of these modified cars will be a tC designed and modified by Young Tea, from Alhambra, Calif. His car was built in his personal garage and is suitable both for the track and daily driving.
His “Simpli-tC” concept took a base Scion tC and added an aggressive exterior kit that includes new fenders, a custom dual-outlet exhaust rear diffuser and many more, but it also lowered the car’s ride for a more aggressive look.
He did lots of work under the hood too, but up to this point the specifications figures have been kept a secret. However, we are pretty sure that his car will deliver more than the standard 180 horsepower.

It looks like the Scion FR-S will be one of the major stars at this year’s SEMA Show. Scion prepared no less than four concept cars based on the FR-S, and we are pretty sure we will see more than these in Las Vegas.
One of the four concepts was designed in cooperation with Bulletproof Automotive and transforms the obedient FR-S into a 500-horsepower beast with an exterior paint conversion inspired by Lamborghini.
A base FR-S delivers only 200 horsepower, so you can imagine that taking it up to 500 horsepower required lots of work. To achieve this massive number, Bulletproof installed a new, Powerhouse Amuse turbo kit with a EFR 6758 turbocharger, new titanium turbo downpipe and front pipe, 86.5 mm overbore pistons, upgraded rods and ACL bearings. There is also a new Amuse Titan Extra STTI exhaust system. The concept can run on both 91 octane and E85 fuels.

Now, we know we have already seen two concepts- FT-86 and FT-86 II - for this vehicle, but will have to endure one more as Toyota has brought us yet another FT-86 concept. This time it has been revealed at the New York Auto Show under the Scion badge and it won’t go into production until Toyota finally brings their production version later this year at the Tokyo Motor Show. The Scion FR-S Concept is a preview version of a new model coming to the Scion brand next year.
"Scion is always experimenting with new things," said Jack Hollis, Scion vice president. "The brand is iconic with the xB, adrenalized by the tC, and groundbreaking with the iQ. The FR-S will expand the brand into yet another new dimension that I know it is truly destined for."
Like with the other Toyota model, the Scion model is being inspired by the AE86 generation of the Corolla, better known as the Hachi-Roku, meaning "8-6" in Japanese. The concept is being built on a rear-wheel-drive platform and is powered by a 2.0-liter boxer front engine that can be mated with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
UPDATE 04/28/2011: Toyota has revealed a new video showing off the Scion FR-S concept’s revving engine. The sound should be the same or very similar for all three Scion FR-S / Toyota-Subaru FT-86 cars since they will all feature the same Boxer engine and exhaust setup. Hit the jump for the video.
UPDATE 05/20/2011: Testing is still underway for the Scion FR-S, and while it was circling the track, spy photographers were able to get a shot of the newly fitted and massive wing attached to the back. Seems a little exaggerated to us, but hey, we’ve waited so long to see this car in action that we will take just about anything they throw at us at this point. Check out the video after the jump.
UPDATE 06/24/2011: Scion has unveiled a new video of their latest FR-S concept in which Ken Gushi - a resident Scion Racing driver - talks about about the Scion FR-S concept car and what it means to him. For those that don’t recognize the name, Gushi started his driving career in the iconic Toyota AE86 also known as the "hachiroku". The AE86 is important because the FR-S is modeled after the prime drifting vehicle.

For those who love both driving and cooking, Scion is offering a special solution: the Kogi xD Mobile Kitchen by MV Designz. The xD concept features a MV Designz front fascia, MV Designz rear fascia, MV Designz side skirts and MV Designz Hood.
As about cooking, the concept features a fridge and a cutting board on the left rear door, ice chest and sink with reverse osmosis system, tailgate with barbeque grill, hatc glass featuring Dual Alpine 10" LCD Monitors, cooking ustensils on the left tail light and condiments on the right tail light.
0-60 Magazine and Sprear arco revealed today at SEMA Show the rally version of the Scion xD. The concept features Pro-ADV race seats, safari race steering wheel, navigators footrest, 6 point harnesses, mud flaps, communications units, race pedals.
The Sparco Rally xD is using different carbon-fiber elements, including the front hood, rear hatchwing and panels. There is also a FIA Spec rally cage, universal light pod, front aluminun skid plate, spoiler, front bumper pod mounts and a new exhaust system.
The second Scion presented at SEMA Show is the xB Tuner Challenge by Eneri Abillar. It features a BRS widebody Kit with custom fabrication to Front and Rear bumper including PIAA LED Driving Lights. The concept comes with graphics by S&A Design.

While the IQ is already sold in Japan and Europe as a Toyota, it’s getting its shot at the U.S. with the younger, hipper Scion brand. Unlike the other markets where the 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine is available, the IQ will only be available with the 1.3-liter four cylinder unit. This makes a respectable 93 hp — not bad for a three-seat (plus luggage) car that may return over 55 mpg.

Scion unveiled today at the New York Auto Show the Hako Coupe, a concept developed by Tokyo Design Division. The Hako Coupe Concept was inspired by the iconic xB and the emergence of American vintage style among young Tokyo trendsetters.
Tokyo Design developed the Hako Coupe with classic American coupes in mind. The car’s geometric profile conveys a powerful stance in a compact and bold package. Its trapezoidal LED headlights lie parallel with a large and aggressive, rectangular upper grille. The lower rectangular grille anchors the front fascia and continues to communicate the Hako’s aggressive attitude. Round fog lights, symmetrically placed high on the front bumper, have integrated turn signals.
The Hako Coupe features a vertical windshield as the concept sits upright and ready to attack the road. A high linear beltline along with a blackened and chopped greenhouse seamlessly wrap around the rear to provide a mysterious profile. As an example of potential personalization, the concept is equipped with a flat, panorama roof that features a random, barcode-like pattern that can be seen on the exterior and from the interior.
Inside, the Hako is accented with orange and metallic detailing that exudes a modern environment with entertainment possibilities. The front and rear seats are covered with urethane and rubber-like upholstery for easy cleaning. The contemporary front bucket seats flow to the floor and incorporate a geometric design on the seatback. The seats are separated by a center console that features a large storage crevice for storing magazines, cell phones, and other small items. Two cockpit-like rear seats also share a storage crevice.
