The Leon Competicion might be based on the five-door Cupra Leon hatchback, but in designing it, Cupra had to rethink a lot of areas, including the body kit which was developed using 3D-printing technology.

Race cars must abide by a particular set of rules depending on the competition they are enlisted. Cupra developed the Leon Competicion with TCR-racing customers in mind, so to deliver the finite product, a lot of tweaks were in order.

Aero and suspension tweaks for top track flexibility

Aerodynamics were given a lot of attention, as the Competicion had to both cut through the air like a sword and deliver enough downforce to remained glued to the track during high-speed cornering.

On top of that, the chassis can be tuned to different racing conditions. That is possible with the help of front MacPherson struts with adjustable height, camber, toe, caster, and track. In addition, the multilink suspension setup in the rear also allows for a various number of tweaks that can be applied to height, camber, toe, and track. Teams can decide whether they opt for front and rear rollbars – which are adjustable, too.

Turbo power to get the job done

The Leon Competicion is powered by 2.0-liter, inline-four gasoline engine aided by forced induction. Therefore, the unit is good for 335 horsepower (340 PS) at 6,800 rpm and 410 Newton-meters (302 pound-feet) of torque available “along most of the rpm range,” according to Cupra.

Thanks to a Hewland six-speed sequential racing transmission, the Leon Competicion is good for a 0-100 kph (62 mph) sprint time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 260 kph (160 mph).

Stopping power comes from six-piston front calipers that bite into 378mm ventilated steel discs and two-piston calipers gripping on to 272mm steel discs in the rear.

Racing teams can secure their Cupra Competicion for a starting price of €129,000.
