The late-1960s Shelby G.T.500 was one of the most desirable cars available in its era and has now become one of the rarest mustangs. The rarest G.T.500 of them all is a 1967 convertible model, due to the fact that there was only one example ever made. This example went straight to Carroll Shelby himself and no other examples ever existed.
Well, the folks over at Classic Recreations, who are known for their classic Ford Mustang projects, are now making it possible for you to own a drop top 1967 G.T.500 at a fraction of the price that Shelby’s model would fetch.
Granted, this model is no true G.T.500, but it’ll certainly turn heads, especially once you lay into it and let its engine do the talking. There are two models of this G.T.500 available, the tamer 545 model and the wild 900S model.
So what does this recreation of the single-most rare Shelby Mustang G.T.500 have to offer you, and is it a fair bargain?

The Shelby GT500 is far and away the most powerful production Mustang, and pony car for that matter, ever built. So how in the world do you reign in those 662 ponies and 631 pounds of twisting force as a rookie driver? Well, you add in traction control for one and second, you install a launch control system that allows even the novice driver to launch this `Stang like a pro.
To prove its worth, Ford has even released a video touting its launch control, which uses a combination of the ABS and traction control, mixed in with its other electronic controls to give its driver the perfect launch. The video, which you can see above, explains that you simply set the desired launch RPM, mash the gas pedal, and release the clutch, then the system maximizes the torque load and tire grip, and “Wheeeeeeeeeeee” you’re off with a cloud of beautiful, yet expensive, white smoke in your wake.
What’s simply awesome about this video is the fact that the late, great Carroll Shelby is a main feature in it, which means that this video was likely filmed nearly a year ago. He still shows his dislike for Corvettes at the 1:17 mark when he says “You know, that’s important to people that want to leave a Corvette in the dust at a stop sign.” You can’t help but love the fact that Ford truly flowed deep within Shelby’s veins.
For those that don’t like the predictability of launch control, the video also lets you know that you can turn it off. Why someone wouldn’t want to rip, dig, and scoot perfectly off of the line every time is beyond us, but some people prefer controlling it themselves.
Even if you don’t give a rat’s hindquarters about traction control, the hoonage and white smoke in this video is a gorgeous thing. Plus there are few engines in the world that sound as sexy as a well-tuned Ford V-8. Have a look and listen, you won’t regret it.
Recently deceased automotive master and all-around great person, Carroll Shelby, has a history that few can compete with. Not only was he one of the best American road racers, but was also a legendary car designer. But his legend is seemingly endless in the automotive field, as even racers in drift series races are influenced by him.
The most recent evidence was when American driver Vaughn Gittin Jr. took home 1st place in round 1 of the World Drift Series in China while driving his Mustang RTR. Though Mr. Shelby never had a hand in drifting, it is obvious that he had a huge influence on Gittin, as he dedicated this victory to the memory of Mr. Carroll Shelby.
After being declared the winner, Gittin was quoted saying “I would like to dedicate this to win to a very special man that we lost recently, someone I had the opportunity to meet just a few times, and someone that was a true inspiration to me personally and to the automotive world as a whole. That man is Carroll Shelby. He is someone that always did what he wanted to do no matter what anyone thought and I know he would be proud to know we are drifting Mustangs in Olympic stadiums here in China and bringing home a huge first place trophy back to the USA!”
Our congratulations have to go out to Gittin for his victory, but the victory pales in comparison to his heartfelt dedication to the man that helped make the Mustang that won the race what it is today. To say that Gittin has our support throughout the rest of the WDS is an understatement.
Somewhere, Mr. Shelby was smiling as this Ford Mustang slid its way around imports and into first place…

As their name obviously suggests, Classic Recreations is an American tuning company that specializes in taking the iconic cars of yesteryear and turning them into modern models. Their creations feature the latest in today’s technology mixed in with original and classic looks. The company’s latest project doesn’t deviate from that description as the team over at CR has taken on the task of building the legendary 1965 Shelby G.T.350.
Classic Recreations did plenty of work on the car at their facility in Oklahoma, including a complete restoration work on the car’s body while also outfitting it with today’s technology. It’s a car that will definitely cater to old-school aficionados, as well as modern-day torque twisters. Sure, it won’t come cheap - the base price is $119,000 - but anybody knows there’s a certain price to be paid for speed, power, and nostalgia. The Shelby G.T.350CR has all three of those qualities wrapped in one awesome package.

A man who held a ticket for a chance to win a 2011 Shelby GT500 sold it for $200 to another dude who ended up winning the car. Ridiculous? Yeah.
Unbelievably enough, it’s also true.
In a scene straight out of a Hollywood script, an attendee at this year’s QuakeCon Gaming Festival that was held in Dallas sold a raffle ticket – it was just one of 100, actually – for just $200. Turns out, it didn’t take long for this sale to backfire on the poor attendant.
Moments after thinking that he just swindled $200 from the supposed “schmuck” who purchased it, the latter’s newly-bought raffle ticket was chosen among the 100 tickets, winning him a $50,000 Shelby GT500.
One of the hosts summed up the whole situation perfectly by saying, “He’s (the seller) gonna have some drinks tonight. He’s (the buyer) going home with a Shelby GT500!”
Talk about a broad spectrum of emotions at play. The seller’s probably kicking himself right now and the buyer, well, to say he’s ecstatic is a gross understatement.
Mention the name Carroll Shelby to anyone who knows about cars and the first word that would come out of their mouths is ’legend’ - and for good reason. As the man behind the iconic Shelby line of Mustangs, Carroll Shelby has given us some of the most priceless and sought-after Mustang models in history.
But as is the case with any successful story, an ending will eventually come. Rumors are circulating that Shelby’s latest project, the 2011 Mustang GT 350, just may be his final one, too.
At 87 years old, nobody’s going to hold it against him if he decides to finally retire from building cars, but according to the man himself, age has nothing to do with the decision to stop car production. Rather, the departure eventually boiled down to Shelby believing his performance parts development and sales are becoming a more profitable option than his customized Mustangs.
"I want to build fewer cars and sell more parts," Shelby said to the Dallas News. "It’s hard to make any money on a car, but our parts business is growing 15 to 20 percent a year."
While we may still see parts of Carroll Shelby’s legacy in the performance parts that he plans to continue building, the fact that this American muscle car icon is walking away from building his patented bad boys marks a sad day for the specialized market, one that will probably have a lasting effect in the near and far future.
Imagine yourself waking up one day, going to work in a towing company, and find yourself driving off with an authentic Shelby Cobra body, and you even get paid to do it, then consider yourself very lucky.
While replica Shelby Cobras are made by over 100 shops in the US alone, the chances of actually finding a legitimate chassis and body of one of the most revered muscle cars in history is pretty remote. But the owner of the tow company – his name’s Shawn, by the way - that moved the body of this Shelby Cobra found himself sitting on a proverbial goldmine after he was paid to remove it from a storage facility when the owner failed to pay the rent and ended up forfeiting the entire unit. Nevada laws stipulate that when a tow company contacts the registered owners of the car and goes 90 days without a response, the tow company automatically takes legal ownership of the car.
So when Shawn discovered what he indeed was paid to own, he went to the Gold and Silver Pawnshop in Vegas to have his new property estimated. In the end, the pawnshop called in no less than the president of Shelby Cars Northwest who confirmed that they indeed had the real deal, valuing the Shelby Cobra chassis at around $60,000. After a few rounds of negotiations, Shawn ended up selling the car for $30,000 to the pawnshop’s owner, Richard Harrison, who later on had the car completed for a relatively bargain price of just $80,000.

Shelby America, known for creating some of the most powerful cars in the world, is venturing on an entirely different industry with the hopes of giving their loyal and ardent fans reason to wear their devotion for Shelby in a different way.
The American coachbuilder recently announced a licensing agreement with Morgan’s & Philip’s clothing company to produce an apparel line showcasing Shelby and its unique place in American auto lore. The Shelby line, which will be manufactured exclusively here in the, is scheduled to be launched on the 1st of February and will give all Shelby fans more reason to wear their love for the brand on their sleeves – no pun intended.
The liquidation of the Texan company, Unique Performance, brought nothing but trouble to Carroll Shelby, because he is now being sued by the former clients of the shady car customizer. Although his only involvement in the Unique Performance was to give the license for the use of the Shelby brand for some models the plaintiffs sustain that he is in fact guilty for their loss.
There are around 140 people with claims who paid for the desired car but never got to see it. More than sixty-one cars were seized the moment Unique Performance was raided in November 2007. Some of the former customers, actual plaintiffs, claim that they would have never bought the cars if it wasn’t for the Shelby’ s brand endorsement.
