Video: SSC Tuatara Hits 331 MPH; Is Now The World’s Fastest Production Car
We’ve been waiting on SSC (Shelby Supercars) for over seven years as the American manufacturer kept upping the hype on its upcoming Tuatara hypercar that was meant to pick up where the SSC Ultimate Aero left off as the fastest car in the world. With 304 mph the target set by Bugatti, SSC hit the Nevada desert and more than made up for the wait by exceeding 330 mph in what was considered as tough conditions.
We Know You’ll Love This 30-Second Video Tour of the SSC Tuatara!
After years and years of development, the SSC Tuatara is finally coming in 2020, and the North American company is promising a new top speed record for production cars. While an official unveiling date is not yet available, SSC is releasing teaser after teaser for the new supercar. This latest video showcases some of the Tuatara’s main features.
The SSC Tuatara Accelerates So Hard That You’ll Lose Your Hair
The SSC Tuatara is not yet available to customers, but SSC North America is hard at work to deliver its new-generation supercar. The company’s latest YouTube video is titled "Speed" and shows the Tuatara being driven really fast. It seems that the supercar is quite quick from a standstill and the footage taken from the engine compartment reveals an angry and cool-sounding V-8 engine. The video features the hashtag #lifebeginsat300, which confirms that SSC is still planning a record run beyond the 300-mph mark.
Get Up Close and Intimate with the SSC Tuatara - A Car That Could Break the 300-MPH Barrier
The SSC Tuatara is one of those cars that have been in the works for so long that most people have actually forgotten about it. Now, the buzz is going again and, after seeing a prototype on the road in December, we drool over footage of the hypercar sitting still and revving its 5.9-liter, twin-turbocharged, V-8 engine. Let’s hope it will finally be available to buy sometime in 2019, with or without the bragging rights of having broken the 300 mph barrier.
SSC, formerly known as Shelby SuperCars, first unveiled the Tuatara Concept on the lawn of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance back in 2011. Last year, SSC came back with an almost unchanged car which was, actually, the production version. The Tuatara has since made a few more public appearances, and the latest is at a dealer in Connecticut where it was filmed by youtuber WVM3DreamDrives and, frankly, it looks fantastic in that polar white color.
There are a few cars in this world that can make a room full of supercar owners stand in wide-eyed disbelief and at a loss for words on the exotic that they’re looking at. One of those few cars is the SSC Ultimate Aero II. Now, we finally get a look at what the new American supercar looks like.
Similar to how Ferrari did a secret unveiling for a select few customers for the 599 Roadster, SSC did the same at the Pebble Beach Concours, bringing a few supercar owners – notice the parade of exotics these owners came in – for the sneak peek of the Ultimate Aero II.
And when you’re a company that broke the speed record for production cars set by the fabledBugatti Veyron, you know that expectations for the sequel are about as high as they can get. And now that Bugatti has once again one-upped them – the Veyron Super Sports now holds the speed record at 268 mph – it goes without saying that SSC just might have something special brewing with the Ultimate Aero II, and you only need to look at the reactions from these exotic car owners to believe that.
