Transport Canada Gets Our Approval With HIlarious Star Wars-Related Recall

Transport Canada Gets Our Approval With HIlarious Star Wars-Related Recall

Get those AT-ATs fixed, Darth Vader!

Transport Canada may be one of the last places our Canadian friends will look to for some snickers and laughs these days, but you have to give credit to the government agency for embracing a little bit of humor on Star Wars Day. If you haven’t heard yet, Transport Canada issued a recall yesterday – recall #2017242 – involving serious powertrain defects to a number of All-Terrain Armored Transport Imperial Walkers, or as their more popularly known, AT-AT Walkers.

According to the recall notice, the AT-AT Walker’s central hydraulic system “could fail in extreme cold temperatures,” particularly in far-flung locations like Northern Canada or, you know, planet Hoth. Apparently, the issues with the hydraulic system could lead to a domino effect of problems for these walkers, including the malfunction of the walker’s laser cannon tracking and the overall ability of these massive metallic elephants to walk. If all these issues come into the fray, the walker’s are reportedly susceptible to crashing, thus causing injury or death to any unfortunate imperial trooper stuck inside. If the walker’s supposed issues aren’t enough to draw giggles, Transport Canada took its gag recall a step further by adding that 10,000 AT-AT Walkers are possibly affected. Who knew the Republic had that many AT-ATs to begin with?

Can you guess who inspired the look of the 2018 Ford Mustang?

Can you guess who inspired the look of the 2018 Ford Mustang?

It comes form the dark side...

Automakers usually put a lot of work in a new-generation car’s design. If it’s an iconic model, like the Ford Mustang, there are several key factors to consider. While it must be fresh and modern, it must retain the classic design and that familiar look. By contrast, facelifts aren’t as demanding, although some manufacturers add significant revisions. Ford is one of them, and it just revealed that the 2018 Mustang design was inspired by Star Wars character Darth Vader.

Wait, what?

Rest assured, this is not April Fools’ Day joke. Granted, it may have something to do with the popular "May the 4th be with you" celebration of the film, but the news comes straight from Ford design manager Melvin Betancourt.

The Sith Lords And The Cars We See Them In

The Sith Lords And The Cars We See Them In

Would Darth Maul look good in a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon?

As the revelry behind Star Wars Day drew to a close, the whole galaxy is waking up to a sobering reminder that today, May 5, is no longer about having the Force on your side. Nope. Today is the Revenge of the Fifth, otherwise known as the Dark Side’s turn in the spotlight. And just as we featured two of the most powerful Jedis in the galaxy yesterday, our focus today is on the Sith Lords, the powerful Force-sensitive arch-enemies of the Jedi Order, and the cars that we can see them driving – or being driven around – when they’re not trying to conquer the galaxy.

Obviously, we’re not going to run through the whole gamut of Sith Lords that have been identified in the Star Wars universe. That’s going to take up a lot of time and effort. Instead, our focus will be on the Siths that have made an appearance in any one of the seven episodic movies of the Star Wars movie franchise. We did make one concession for one of the people – Kylo Ren – on this list since he’s not technically a Sith Lord (yet.) But we added him anyway on the chance that he ends up as one. Feel free to check out the list and you can agree or disagree with our choices in the comments section below. Better yet, make your own suggestions and let us know about them.

Make The Jump To Lightspeed With These Star Wars Drones

Hone your starfighter skills without traveling to a galaxy far, far away

Look – we all want a spaceship, right? Preferably one with enough juice to hit up that killer bar in Mos Eisley or go bobsledding on Hoth? Unfortunately, actually coming up with the Elon Musk-like-levels of cash needed to make that dream a reality can be tricky. Luckily, there’s an atmosphere-based alternative in the form of the official Star Wars drones from Propel. Models include the 74-Z speeder bike, T-65 X-Wing, and TIE Advanced X1, all of which are capable of flying at speeds over 35 mph.

These quick quad copters carry the official stamp of approval from the franchise, which means they’re bristling with canon-correct details. Model arrives in a slick black collector’s box, perfect for display on a shelf to proudly show off your nerdiness, and if you get some friends together, you can even use them to play a little aerial laser tag. The Battle Of The Speeders

The Battle Of The Speeders

Luke Skywalker’s X-34 Landspeeder takes on Rey’s Speeder

It’s hard to go around today without seeing or hearing someone say “May the Fourth be with you” to greet another person. Really, the moment I woke up and checked my social media feeds, I was inundated with posts reminding me that today, May 4, is Star Wars Day. Yes, Star Wars has its own day, although this celebration has evolved from just a one-day celebration to a two-day-er with tomorrow, May 5, being referred to as “Revenge of the Fifth.” Cute puns notwithstanding, I’m celebrating with my fellow Star Wars fans, and what better way to do it than by engaging in a fantasy race between the rides-of-choice of two of the franchise’s leading protagonists: Luke Skywalker and Rey Ken..oh, wait.

I am of course talking about Luke’s X-34 Landspeeder and Rey’s speeder, two diametrically different iterations of the same ride with vastly different origins and purposes. I’m not going to spend this time to go on a historical deep dive of the two speeders. What I will do is line up one opposite the other, compare things like origin, design, power, and cool factor, and then pick which of the two speeders I prefer. Technically, there’s no answer here because I don’t mind driving either one of them. I just ended up liking one over the other.

The Force Is Strong In These Star Wars-Themed Cars

Revisiting all the cars strong with the Force

May 4 may just be an ordinary day for most people, but tell that to a Star Wars fan and you’re just as likely to be met with death stares and attempts to choke you with the Force. See, May 4 is a special day for aficionados of the galaxy far, far away as it has come to be known, unofficially at least, as Star Wars Day. It’s even widely referenced through the greeting, “May the Fourth Be With You.” Since most of us here on TopSpeed are proud servants of pop culture, we recognize May the 4th for what it is to Star Wars fans. Today is a celebration of all things Star Wars and we’re doing our part by revisiting some of the coolest Star Wars-themed cars in recent history.

Most of the cars who made this list were created either by actual automakers or aftermarket tuning companies. Since we don’t want this list to get out of hand, we’re not going to include each and every Star Wars-themed, custom-built car we’ve seen in the past. Doing so would mean that we’ll be here forever and we wouldn’t want to do that since we’d like you to prepare yourselves for tomorrow’s festivities when May 5 – Revenge of the Fifth – takes its turn on the calendar. So go check out the list and let us know which of these Star Wars-themed rides you’d want to be driving today.

2017 Mercedes CLA180 Star Wars Edition

2017 Mercedes CLA180 Star Wars Edition

May the 4th be with you, lucky customers in Japan

You know a film franchise has become completely larger than life when businesses from unrelated sectors are trying to attach their names on a fan-created celebratory day that itself has taken a life of its own. This is what Star Wars has become and the importance of today, May 4, among the franchise’s legion of fans has spurred companies to celebrate “May the 4th Be With You” on their own terms. Take Mercedes-Benz for example. The German automaker has been involved with the franchise in the past in some capacity, but now it’s taking its involvement to new heights with the introduction of a pair of special edition CLA180 models that celebrate Star Wars Day.

This is not a gimmick, people. These two special edition Mercedes CLA180 models are legitimate, and they’re set to be offered as exclusives in Japan. Yes, Japan’s getting another special edition car. Different issue for a different day though. What’s important is that Japanese customers who are interested in the new special edition CLA180 actually have a choice of getting a car that’s inspired by either Darth Vader or a Stormtrooper. More importantly, both versions come packed with plenty of Star Wars references so no matter what color of the CLA180 is chosen, buyers will get their fill of Star Wars-related features on both models. About the only downside to these SEs is the aforementioned lack of availability in other markets. I don’t know if Mercedes knows this, but Star Wars has one of the biggest fan bases in the world. It would’ve probably been a better idea to offer a Star Wars-inspired SE model in more markets than just Japan.
