2019 Subaru Levorg Prototype

2019 Subaru Levorg Prototype

The near-production model will arrive in Japan in the second half of 2020

Subaru has pulled the covers off the all-new Levorg wagon, ushering in the second-generation version of what has become one of the most popular wagons in Japan. The Subaru Levorg Prototype isn’t the final production model. It is, as Subaru deftly calls it, a near-production “prototype” of the second-generation wagon that will arrive in the Japanese market in the second half of 2020. The Levorg isn’t going to the U.S. market, but some of the new and updated technologies that are being showcased by the prototype in Tokyo will find their way to America in some form or fashion. In the absence of the actual wagon heading Stateside, we’ll take our victories where we can get them.

A Mysterious New Crossover Concept From Subaru Could Showcase The Next Crosstrek

Expectedly, Subaru is among the first ones to jump onto the wagon of endless teasers released before an auto show to introduce us to a new vehicle. In this case, the Japanese company we all adore released a really dark teaser of what is called the Subaru Viziv Adrenaline Concept. It is the seventh Viziv concept since 2013, and it definitely projects what will become an all-new car. Well, in the case of the Viziv Adrenaline Concept - what will become an all-new crossover. Because, of course, it is a crossover. Maybe even one that will evolve like a Pokemon into the next Crosstrek.

Subaru is really, like really, really secretive about it for now, but I did find out a thing or two about it and can make some logical conclusions.

Automakers are gearing up for the Tokyo Auto Show, and it’s already proving to be a show of conceptual goodness. Outside of Mitsubishi’s interesting concepts Subaru will be in attendance with two pretty awesome concepts – the Forester STI e-Boxer and the Impreza STI. Both come wearing a beautiful helping of STI design to go with, most likely, limited performance. Here’s what we know about them so far.

2018 Subaru Viziv Tourer Concept

2018 Subaru Viziv Tourer Concept

Does it preview the next-generation Outback?

While it hasn’t introduced many brand-new models in recent years, Subaru was pretty busy showcasing new design features and technologies with a range of concepts under the Viziv name. The first one arrived in 2013, and since then Subaru has launched a new Viziv design each year. The latest iteration, known as the Viziv Tourer Concept, broke cover at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, and it features a five-door body layout.

Naturally, the Tourer shares many design features with previous Viziv concept cars. It also shares upcoming driver-assist technologies that we will find in production models starting 2020. But unlike some Viziv concepts, which featured hybrid powertrains, the Tourer uses a boxer engine only. The concept could preview a hatchback or wagon version of the WRX, but it could also be an early preview of the next-generation Outback.

The Subaru Viziv Tourer is Here, and it May Preview the Next-Gen Outback

Can we get a Viziv production model, please?

Subaru has finally introduced the Viziv Tourer, the latest addition to the Viziv Concept series and what we believe may be a preview of the next-gen Subaru Outback. As is the usual case with the Viziv Concepts, Subaru hasn’t exactly released a plethora of information, but its whole purpose is to showcase Subaru’s future design language, and it does exactly that. It’s got the sharp design cues, the look of performance, and all of the muscular features we expect from a car that’s designed to feel at home on and off the road.

Subaru’s building its own family of Viziv concepts

Subaru’s Viziv concept game has been on point since the automaker introduced the first concept at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Since then, we’ve seen crossovers, SUVs, hatchbacks, and even a virtual Vision GT concept all sport the Viziv moniker. All told, Subaru has released five Viziv concepts since 2013. As we prepare for the 2018 edition of the Geneva Motor Show, we’re going to see the sixth version in the form of the Viziv Tourer Concept.

Subaru Viziv Performance Concept

A hopeful preview of the new WRX… maybe

Subaru just revealed its latest ultra-sleek concept model at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. Dubbed the Viziv Performance (Viziv is shorthand for “Vision for Innovation”), this Scooby is the latest in a series of concept cars to bear the Viziv name, rocking an aggressive exterior and tons of speedy visual cues. This is also the very first four-door sedan to come from the concept line, which can only mean one thing – this is what Subaru’s designers imagine for the next WRX. The emphasis is on driving fun and attention-grabbing details, both of which the Viziv Performance manages to accomplish, at least on paper. So then, what does it say about the brand’s favorite rally star? Read on for details.

Subaru Dresses up its Three Favorite Models for an Outing in Tokyo

Subaru Dresses up its Three Favorite Models for an Outing in Tokyo

Technically, they’re not concepts in the traditional way concepts are created

Subaru’s ho-hum presence at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show - only the new Impreza made the trip to Germany - may have been a disappointment for fans of the brand, but not all is lost because the Japanese automaker will be out in full force at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in October. We already know that it plans to unveil a special edition version of the BRZ at the event. Now, it’s adding to its list of debuts by rolling out three “concept” versions of its three best-selling models: the Impreza, XV, and Outback.

Truth be told; none of the concepts are actual concepts, at least in the traditional way we know of concepts. Instead, they’re more like “special variants,” each coming with unique exterior and interior features that none of their standard counterparts feature. Subaru even says as much, describing them as previews of what it calls the “new Subaru story,” presumably a launching pad for what future versions of these models could look like. The company hasn’t made it clear if it plans to roll out these models in limited edition numbers like the BRZ STI Special Edition, but don’t be surprised if it does, especially if the public reacts to it as favorably as Subaru hopes.

2017 Subaru Ascent

2017 Subaru Ascent

Previews Subaru’s next-generation seven-seat SUV

It’s no longer a secret that Subaru wants to bring the seven-passenger SUV back to the U.S., but the 2017 New York Auto Show confirms that the vehicle is very close to arriving in dealerships. Specifically, Subaru announced that the Ascent concept will go on sale in 2018 as a spiritual successor for the Tribeca. Based on the Viziv-7 concept showcased in 2016, the Ascent is much closer to production form, but it will likely lose some of its features before hitting the assembly line.

Subaru’s confirmation of the seven-seat SUV and Ascent name comes after 64 months of consecutive record-breaking sales in the United States. The Japanese firm has been growing slowly but steady in North America, and it now needs to step into new markets to keep the hype alive. A seven-seat hauler seems like a safe bet, especially with not so many companies offering this type of layout nowadays. The Ascent will be built at Subaru of Indiana plant in Lafayette and won’t be sold outside North America. Until the production model arrives, let’s find out more about the concept car in the review below.
