2013 Suzuki Authentics Concept

2013 Suzuki Authentics Concept

There’s not much going on with Suzuki cars these days. All that could change at the Shanghai Motor Show when the Japanese automaker that specializes more on small vehicles and motorcycles introduces the Authentics Concept.

The concept, which has been described as one embracing Suzuki’s new design philosophy of "Sporty x Elegant," sure does look like a concept that could bring Suzuki’s design language into the new millennia.

Not much was revealed apart from these two teasers, but the images do offer some distinctive qualities about the Authentics Concept, including what certainly looks to be a sedan concept with a low roof line, sweptback headlights, massive taillights, a dual-exhaust system and a pretty long wheelbase.

The Suzuki press release also says the car has a "strong character line, which gives a wind-cutting image along with a rich and fine curved surface." That’s a way of describing the Authentics Concept that’ll surely have a lot of people interested in seeing what the car looks like when it rolls out of the shadows at the Shanghai Motor Show later this month.

2010 Suzuki SX4 Hybrid

2010 Suzuki SX4 Hybrid

The latest “big thing” in automotive industry is represented by the green vehicles and every respectable manufacturer tries to develop new technologies.

Suzuki is also working hard to keep it up with today’s trends and for the moment the hybrid and electric technologies are its priority.

One of the latest concepts used to showcase the advances made with the green technologies is theSX4 Hybrid. The SX4 was a smart choice, as its one of the most popular models in Suzuki’s lineup. The standard model is seen with pretty good eyes by the public, being already one of the most efficient fuel powered cars in its class.

For the moment, Suzuki didn’t make any announcements about a possible production version of its concept. Though, an SX4 Hybrid would make a lot of sense and if it’s priced right it could prove to be another wining card for the company.

Top Gear USA: Season 2 Episode 6

Top Gear USA: Season 2 Episode 6

This week’s episode of Top Gear is probably the most disgusting episode we have ever seen. The guys were faced with the challenge of finding the best car for $500 and driving them 500 miles from Santa Monica to Twin Peaks in San Francisco. At first, we could only imagine just how crappy these cars were, then the Top Gear crew let us know.

In addition to the foul $500 car challenge, Ruttledge Wood was given the chance to review the scintillating Cadillac CTS-V in all three body styles: coupe, sedan, and wagon. The wagon was by far Rutt’s favorite and he was absolutely clear on that.

We were also treated to Maroon 5’s Adam Levine as he cruised around the Top gear test track in the show’s Suzuki SX4. His driving may not have been top notch, but he was extremely successful at cursing up a storm.

2011 Suzuki Kizashi Apex Turbo Concept

2011 Suzuki Kizashi Apex Turbo Concept

Gracing the Suzuki stand at the New York Auto Show is a concept car that should have us clamoring for a production version sooner rather than later.

Joining the Kizashi EcoCharge Concept in New York is the Kizashi Apex Concept, a turbocharged version of the Kizashi that Subaru built and designed to not only come with improved performance dynamics, but to also show the link between the company’s automotive division and its long-standing and highly competitive motorcycle division.

Dressed in a colorful racing livery that makes you feel that it’s itching for some pavement, the Kizashi Apex Concept is all about performance. While the stock engine of the model remains intact, the Japanese automaker added a plethora of add-ons - specifically a Garrett turbocharger - to make the car primed and ready for a good ol’ fashion throwdown.

If you won’t take our word for it, hear it straight from the horse’s mouth: "Our turbo-equipped concept leverages the already-exceptional Kizashi platform and infuses it with a substantial boost," said Steve Younan, director of automotive marketing and product planning for Suzuki’s US division.

"The Kizashi Apex Concept will further elevate our flagship sedan in the U.S. among enthusiasts who crave added power and performance."

Truer words have never been spoken.

2011 Suzuki Kizashi EcoCharge Concept

2011 Suzuki Kizashi EcoCharge Concept

Suzuki has big plans for its flagship model, the Kizashi. That much we already know. What we didn’t expect though was that the model would be branching out with different variants.

At the New York Auto Show, the Japanese automaker further cemented their intention of giving its customers new options for the sedan by unveiling a couple of concept cars tied up to its name.

One of these concepts is the Kizashi EcoCharge Concept, a hybrid vehicle Suzuki is preparing to compete against the likes of the Toyota Prius and the Honda Insight, among other hybrid cars out on the market these days.

While Suzuki hasn’t had any discussions on the production plans for the car, we’d be very surprised if this model doesn’t get greenlighted for production soon, especially when you consider that the market is ripe for other brands to enter and give its established rivals a run for their money.

Either way, its looking more and more likely that the hybrid wars will have to make room for another vehicle.

2010 Suzuki Bonneville Kizashi

2010 Suzuki Bonneville Kizashi

When people think of racing, they typical don’t think of Suzuki. And if they do, it’s probably not the Kizashi that is on their mind, but a suped up race bike. Well, Suzuki wants to change all of that with their new special edition Kizashi that will compete in the Blown Gas Coupe category at Bonneville on August 14. The special edition Bonneville Kizashi gets a rigid structure, composed platform, suspension tuned on the famed Nurburgring, and available all-wheel drive system.

The car is powered by a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder, 16-valve DOHC engine that delivers 500 wheel hp at 7000 rpm and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. It also gets a new intake manifold, a tuned ’long tube’ header, forged rods and pistons, a Turbonetics turbocharger, a new 3.5-inch exhaust, and full synthetic 5W-20 racing oil from Lucas Oil. It’s main target will be to hit a top speed of 200 mph.

The Kizashi platform has been upgraded with the use of new coilovers, steel wheels seam welded, and speed-specific 15x7-inch Goodyear Front Runner rubber. An air dam has been added to reduce the air flow under the car and window straps and hood pins keep the hood and glass attached to the car. If the Suzuki Kizashi gets out of hand, there is always the parachute to bring it to an immediate stop.

UPDATE 08/19/2010: The Bonneville Special just clocked an average run of 203.720 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats, breaking the previous record of 202.301 mph in the Blown Gas Coupe category in the process!

2010 Suzuki Kizashi SE CVT

2010 Suzuki Kizashi SE CVT

A few weeks ago we took a trip to a local bar to watch our hometown baseball team, the Cleveland Indians. Normally we would just go to the game because the tickets are pretty cheap, but even $5 is a bit much to watch a team that really stinks.

Going into the game it was hard to get excited because we have won very few games and are in last place in the division, so needless to say, we weren’t expecting a whole lot. Amazingly though, the team did pretty well and even won the game.

It wasn’t easy for them, but it was determination that brought them a well deserved win. The same can be said for Suzuki. It’s been quite some time since they have been anything to write home about, but after years of hard work and staying under the radar, they finally have a winner on their hands.

The 2010 Suzuki Kizashi was one of those cars where you never quite knew what to expect. Sure, people have written that it was good and a step in the right direction for the company, but, like buying a generic brand cereal, you never want to believe the hype no matter what they tell you or how good it might be.

2010 Suzuki Kizashi Turbo

2010 Suzuki Kizashi Turbo

The Suzuki Kizashi is a fantastic car from a company known for motorcycles rather than automobiles. It proved that the alternative Japanese automaker could produce cars just as good as its rivals; Honda and Toyota. Now, Suzuki wants to take the momentum earned with the Kizashi and create a sports sedan to rival the Honda Civic Si and the TRD division of Toyota.

Called the Kizashi Turbo, this new variant, built on the base sedan, has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a new catback exhaust system, and an upgraded suspension producing 290 horsepower. It also provides enough room in the back for two and plenty of luggage space for a road trip. All in all, the new Kizashi is a big stepping-stone for Suzuki.

2010 Suzuki Concept Kizashi Turbo

After Suzuki unveiled the Sport version at the New York Auto Show, the company announced they will also prepare an even more powerful version. The Suzuki will deliver a total of 290 HP and will be connected to the track pavement via 19-inch Dunlops.

The boost in speed is achieved by a 16G turbocharger and Road Race’s high flow intercooler. Road Race continues its quest for cool by adding custom fuel management, Road Race’s Sleeper blow-off valve, a velocity air intake and an extreme spray injector.

The car will also feature sport springs working in combination with Kizashi’s ultra-rigid unibody and all-independent suspension. High-speed stability is enhanced with the addition of a rear-mounted spoiler supplied by Delta Tech Engineering. Whether you are Road Race founder Rob Tallini, Tommy Kendall, or the average Suzuki enthusiast, the Suzuki Concept Kizashi Turbo will quench the thirst for speed.

2010 Suzuki Kizashi SLS

2010 Suzuki Kizashi SLS

So why do we remember Suzuki? Aside from dirt bikes and recreational water vehicles, what else is out there? The Sidekick and the Esteem are the only models that come to memory, but what about the mid-size sedan category? Up until now Suzuki did not have a strong presence when it came to offering a product for this class, but times have changed and fortunately so has Suzuki’s prospect toward the mid-size sedan class. Enter the 2010 Suzuki Kizashi SLS, a very competitive mid-size sedan with the proper styling outside and comfort inside. This, much to our delight, is accompanied by a large array of features. At first glance the Kizashi appears more like a European sedan and is a bit smaller than most of the current competition, however, once you get past that you will note that the Kizashi is not only a suitable alternative for most European styled mid-sized sedans, but a great value as well.

Video: Evil snowmen are no match for the Suzuki Kizashi

Video: Evil snowmen are no match for the Suzuki Kizashi

In an attempt to convince you that snowmen are not entirely what you thought they’d be, Suzuki is pitting them against their new Kizashi sedan in a not-so friendly machine versus nature tussle.

The car advertisement, which is actually a follow-up of a prior billboard campaign, features the Kizashi sedan driving along a snowy road when it gets unceremoniously attacked by carrot-nosed, hat-wearing, evil snow men.

In an attempt to rid himself of these snowball-throwing misfits, the driver does his best James Bond impersonation by swerving the car and making the two armies of snowmen collide into each other.

Of course, Suzuki isn’t exactly showing-off the driver’s deft driving skills, but rather the Kizashi’s “best in class standard horsepower” and its” all-wheel drive traction”, which when you put together results in a highly-regarded premium class sedan that can give even the wickedest of weathers a run for their money.

The Suzuki Kizashi will be well represented at SEMA with four unique creations

The Suzuki Kizashi will be well represented at SEMA with four unique creations

The Japanese automaker Suzuki has recently come out with the Kizashi compact sedan, and what better way to show off what the all new four door can be then to bring four highly modified examples to the world’s greatest aftermarket car show SEMA. The new Kizashi should feel right at home amongst a sea of modified Camaros and Challengers, not to mention a few Mustangs among others. Due to the new Suzuki’s affordable entry price, appeal towards the youth market and visually appealing design make the Kizashi the next great candidate to take over tuner duties from the Honda Civic.

The first modified Kiashi will come from engine tuners Road Race Motorsport and will feature a set of Carbontrix custom bumpers as well as an integrated rear diffuser. The body features a blacked out roof while hidden underneath the skin is a full racing suspension and a set of equally as capable high performance brake setup to complete the road racing theme. The second Kizashi scheduled to appear at the Las Vegas Convention Center comes from Delta Tech Engineering, who added a few bolt ons in order to extract a few more horse power. Their creation comes complete with an RK Sport body kit on the outside with a mix of LED and HID lighting while the interior is made up of Katzkin covered seats and a custom Kenwood stereo system.

Westside Auto Group is coming out with a Suzuki Hayabusa inspired model, complete with numerous distinct touches to emphasize the Kizashi’s sporting lineage. The car is covered in a custom two tone paint scheme consisting of Napa Merlot and Bronzed Amber laid on top of the new body kit as well as shaved and smoothed sheet metal. The speed theme continues with a GT Super Car wing and a Yoshimura exhaust while the Westside Kizashi rolls around on a set of R-Worx 7-spoke wheels. Last but not least, Import Tuner will also be at the show with a hot rod Kizashi with a few high performance enhancements under the hood as well as a few cosmetic upgrades to complete Import Tuner’s own editorial visualization of the new four door sport compact.

2010 Suzuki Kizashi

2010 Suzuki Kizashi

After three distinct concept that came before, the 2010 Suzuki Kizashi made its world debut today. The Kizashi is the Japanese car company’s first premium midsize sedan and will go on sale in North America this winter, where it will compete with other import models like the Mazda6.

As expeced the Suzuki’s design is inspired by the three concept vehicles with its bold and aggressive appearance that is accentuated by the 18 inch alloy wheels and integrated dual sport exhaust. For the interior, Suzuki fitted a set of sport seats as standard equipment, an elegantly illuminated instrument panel, leather wrapped surfaces as well as iPod connectivity and optional streaming audio via Bluetooth.

Under the hood, Suzuki placed a 2.4 Liter DOHC inline four cylinder engine as standard equipment that is mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or optional continuously variable transmission. The fun to drive Korean automaker is also working on a few other possible power train combinations that will be offered sometime in the future.

Suzuki Kizashi DOA

Suzuki Kizashi DOA

One of the cars we were looking forward to crowding the mid-manger parking lot was the Suzuki Kizashi. The designs we’ve seen were a fresh and aggressive approach to the family sedan, and a rumored 3.5-liter V6 was also helped wet our appetites. But that seems to be all over now. A Reuters report is now indicating that Suzuki will halt all investment on the car, despite the almost production-ready versions we’ve spied.

Suzuki has been making a significant comeback in Europe with its Swift hatchback. But the Swift has stayed off our shores due to a mixture of American’s little love for small hatches, and the last Swift we had was also sold as the image-crushing Geo Metro. Instead, the Kizashi was supposed to be Suzuki’s chance at real credibility in America. Now all we’re left with is wondering what the word “Vitara” means.

Suzuki Kizashi - new spy shot

Suzuki Kizashi - new spy shot

This is the most exciting car to come from Suzuki in a while. The Kizashi is an attractive sedan that we have high hopes will be a part of the carmaker’s U.S. lineup. From this spy shot we can see the production version will keep many of the styling cues shown by the recent Kizashi 3 concept car. The production car will likely top out with a 3.5-liter V6 unit, while the rest of the cars will come with four-cylinder engines in both gas and diesel versions (although likely gas only for the U.S.)

Suzuki has close ties with General Motors. GM currently owns only about three percent of the company, but they have many joint production agreements. If the Kizashi is as much of a winner as it looks, GM may want to try and do some of its infamous rebadging to get its hands on a good/cheap sedan. Buick Kizashi anyone?

Suzuki Kizashi drawings

Suzuki Kizashi drawings

We first had three different concepts, then heavily camouflaged spy shots and now this latest drawing give us a pretty good idea of how the 2010 KIzashi will look like (just pretend its a coloring book).

The Kizashi will be built in three different body versions: a wagon, crossover and sedan. The last one, showed in the drawings was previewed by the Kizashi 3 Concept unveiled at the New York Auto Show.

The base version will be powered by a 2.5-liter 150-horsepower four-cylinder engine, but there will also be a 3.6-liter 300-horsepower DOHC V-6 version. A 2.0-liter turbodiesel will be available in many markets.

The 2010 Kizashi will be priced from around $21,000 and should finally provide Suzuki with an appealing mid-sized world car.
