Like many premium vehicles, the 2020 Chevrolet C8 Corvette comes with plenty of options. But while some of them are cool and customize the car in a tasteful way, others are unusual or downright useless. Here's a few options that you shouldn't even consider and a few choices that Chevy should have grouped in a more useful way.

Bright Red and Edge Red Calipers

Chevrolet offers a choice of four colors for the brake calipers. That's an industry standard for sports cars and supercar, allowing customers to further customize their car's exterior. Nothing wrong here, until you take a look at the colors and notice that you can pick between black, yellow, and two shades of red. Called Bright Red and Edge Red, these colors are pretty similar too. Sure, Bright Red is obviously brighter than the darker hue of Edge Red, but I don't see the point. Will customers actually spend time to wonder which red fits an exterior color better than the other? Why not offer a different color instead. Like blue to go with the two blue exterior colors available or high contrast options like violet for the yellow body or green for the red body?

Body Accent Options

The body accent options are far from useless. They're actually cool, as they enable you to have the side vent trim, the mirror caps, the front grille inserts, and the splitter in either visible carbon-fiber, carbon flash metallic, or black. What annoys me is that each of these features are listed as separate options. Why aren't they grouped in package, because let's face it, customers will opt to have all of them in the same color. Diversity is nice, but why would have some parts in visible carbon-fiber fiber and some of them in plain black? It doesn't make sense.

Full-Length Stripes

In the Exterior Accents category you'll also find optional stripes. Chevy offers a set of dual stripes that run the entire lengths of the car, starting from the nose, over the roof, and toward the rear deck lid. Three colors are available: Midnight, Sterling Silver, and Carbon Flash. Don't get me wrong, stripes are cool, but Chevy's decals look a lot like those seen in higher performance Ferraris, like the 430 Scuderia. I get it Chevy, the C8 Corvette is aimed at the Ferrari 488 (among other cars), but how about some originality? Why not offer thicker stripes on the front hood, like on the C4 Corvette, or lower side stripes like seen on older Corvettes?

Fender Hash Marks

Alongside the full-length stripes you can also order fender hash marks. These decals are far from new. Chevrolet introduced them a few years ago and we've already seen them on the Camaro and the C7-generation Corvette, but mostly on production-ready concept cars. While these hash marks are a unique touch, they don't fit the C8 Corvette very good. They're actually a little over the top, no matter the color of choice. It's what a small Asian automaker would offer on an underpowered sports car. Either way, you can get them in Carbon Flash and Edge Red accents, Edge Red and Carbon Flash accents, and Midnight Silver and Carbon Flash accents.
