The sudden death of actor Paul Walker came as a massive shock to all of us. Popularly known as Brian O’Conner, his contribution to the Fast & Furious series will always be cherished in the hearts of his friends, family and fans alike.

Walker played the character of an undercover cop turned road racer in the movie and starred alongside Vin Diesel (Dominic Toretto). The first installment of the movie featured some of the greatest tuner cars of the 1990s and one such car that caught everyone’s attention was the MK IV Toyota Supra.

One of the most famous scenes in the movie was the drag race between the Supra (driven by Paul Walker) and Vin Diesel in his 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, which nearly ended in a dead heat, but not before some intense high-speed action involving a freight train at a railroad crossing and some serious air time.

We take a look at the orange Toyota Supra that rose to fame thanks to its role in the The Fast and the Furious.

Personally, we’ve never been too fond of the way the Toyota Supra looked. The front was decent, but the rear was too bulbous for our taste.

Peel off the so-so exterior, and you had rather potent Japanese performance car that, despite its odd looks, took the world by storm, and remains among the greatest of the great turbocharged JDM sports cars. The one used in the movie Fast & the Furious, had this Lamborghini Diablo candy pearl orange theme going and a Bomex body-kit that made it look fast even when it was not moving.

The custom Troy Lee graphics on the car added a bit of style while the aluminum bi-plane rear spoiler added some much needed downforce. The hood was a Toyota Racing Division (TRD)-derived composite piece. The car featured xenon headlights and a neon lighting system. The wheel wells were filled with 19-inch Racing Hart M5 Tuner rims.


A high-performance tuner car from across the Pacific isn’t complete without a cabin full of DVD screens, funky mood lighting, high-end audio players and the largest sub-woofers on the planet. Brian O’Conner’s Toyota Supra had not just one, but three display screens, one of which was tucked away in the rear hatch. Then, there was an on-board PlayStation 1 console, Clarion electronics, 12-inch woofers by Image Dynamics and even a Minolta VHS-C camcorder.

The interior of the car was lined with Viper blue suede upholstery Sparco "Pista" racing seats, steering wheel and harness, carbon-fiber dashboard trims, five-inch Monster tachometer along with an array of gauges.

In factory-spec, the Toyota Supra puts out a healthy 320 horsepower from a 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged engine, but the orange car in question, had much more power under its hood. The 3.0-liter engine had all its ancillaries replaced with top-notch tuner parts, taking the power up to 544 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and dropped its 0-to-60 mph time to 4.3 seconds. Its top speed was 185 mph.

The long list of tuner parts on this Supra is just mind-boggling. They include Greddy intercooler,exhaust, oil coolers, intake, cam gears, APEXi blow-off valves, polished throttle bodies and cylinder head, Turbonetics T-66 ball-bearing turbocharger and Delta II wastegate, custom headers, and more. A 100-horsepower boost was available on demand, thanks to a wet-shot Nitrous Oxide System. The six-speed manual transmission with a sequential adapter got a Stage III racing clutch conversion for quick shifts.

The "Fast and Furious" Supra ran Bilstein shocks with Eibach coil-over springs, Stillen sway bars and custom bushings. No wonder then, it cornered flat and was able to take some intense punishment during the action sequences. Braking power was provided by cross-drilled and slotted Stillen 14-inch rotors and AP Racing six-piston calipers.

The MK-IV Toyota Supra has always been a trusty platform for car tuners to work their magic. We believe that the Fast & the Furious movie series has done justice to some of the greatest tuner cars and muscle cars of our time. The franchise has provided an intense dose of entertainment to the world, so much so that some of the antics from the movie have found place in computer games as well. Paul Walker was an inseparable part of the Fast & the Furious family. Paul, you will be missed.
