Toyota has unveiled the 4Runner Nightshade Special Edition at the Texas State Fair. Based on the Limited variant of the 4Runner, the Nightshade Special Edition features aesthetic changes on the full-sized SUV. A series of black details highlight the changes, a lot of which give the 4Runner a darkened appearance. The 4Runner Nightshade Special Edition $1,740 to the 4Runner’s sticker price of $43,225.

What makes the Toyota 4Runner Nightshade Edition special

The Toyota 4Runner Nightshade Special Edition is as straightforward a special edition as you’ll see. There’s nothing fancy about it, but there are enough changes to the look of the SUV to justify its special edition status.

These changes are largely cosmetic, beginning in the front where the 4Runner’s front grille is given a black chrome treatment. The SUV’s exhaust system also gets in on the fun with its own black chrome exhausts. The mirrors, door handles, rocker panels, door garnish, roof rails, window surrounds, and badging all get the black accent treatment. Even the SUV’s 20-inch wheels are in on the fun with its own black finish. Toyota’s also offering the 4Runner Nightshade Special Edition in just three exterior colors: Midnight Black, Magnetic Gray Metallic, and Blizzard Pearl.

Likewise, the shift knob, shifter panel, center instrument cluster, center console panels, and inner doors grips are all painted in black. That’s the extent of the changes in the interior, but the 4Runner does come equipped with a number of useful equipment, including heated/ventilated leather front seats, a power moonroof, and a JBL premium audio system, among others.

Don’t expect a power increase from the 4Runner Nightshade Special Edition. If you’re expecting anything of that sort, you’re going to be disappointed. The good news is that even if Toyota left the 4Runner’s 4.0-liter, six-cylinder engine alone, it still produces 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, which is good enough to help you where you need to go, especially in the outdoors.

The special edition model is available with rear- or four-wheel drive. The cost of owning the 4Runner Nightshade Special Edition adds up to $44,965. That’s broken down between the $1,740 price of the package and the $43,225 price of the 4Runner Limited variant.
