What makes the Toyota Tundra by Kevin Costner special

Kevin Costner is famous for a lot of things. He’s an acting legend, an underrated singer, and a well-established philanthropist. He also happens to be a legitimate outdoorsman, uprooting his family from California and settling down in a rustic 165-acre Aspen, Colorado ranch, complete with three rivers crossing his property.

“I was delighted to get a call from Kevin asking if we were interested in collaborating with some video content featuring the Tundra,” said Ed Laukes, group vice president – Toyota Division Marketing. “Kevin is an avid outdoorsman and is very particular about the equipment he uses. The fact that he identified the Tundra as being the best truck to fit his needs says a lot about our products.”

To be clear, this is less about touting Toyota and its products and more about what Costner wanted from his Tundra truck. With the help of Texas-based Complete Customs, Costner envisioned the kind of truck he wanted, setting the stage for one of the most comprehensive Tundra creations you’ll ever see.

Exterior

Starting with the exterior, Costner and Complete Customs didn’t waste time putting the actor’s vision for his truck to life. New front and rear bumpers were installed. These aren’t your typical bumpers, too. They’re created from heavy-gauge steel and integrated with heavy-duty Warn winches and LED lighting bars and accents from Rigid Industries. The rack is also affixed to an ARE Series Truck Cap that encloses the bed of the truck. Down low, Costner’s Tundra sits on a set of 18-inch Method Race wheels wrapped in massive 35-inch Nitto Ridge Grappler tires. N-Fab side steps that run the length of the cab are also part of the custom creation.

Interior

The interior of Costner’s Tundra offers a blend of comfort, safety, and utility. There’s a pair of Lock’er Down security safes, one located at the center console and another under the rear seats. The front-seat headrests come with TV monitors and over at the bed, there’s a padded sleeping area for Costner’s children and a Dometic dual-one cooler for cold storage.

Drivetrain

No upgrades were made to the Tundra Platinum’s 5.7-liter V-8 engine. It will likely post slower acceleration times, too, on account of all the extra weight it’s carrying, but again, this Tundra is built to go anywhere, even if it isn’t the first to get there. On the bright side, Complete Customs didn’t completely ignore the Tundra’s mechanicals because Costner probably wouldn’t have it any other way. The Texas-based tuner installed a 4.5-inch BDS suspension lift with Fox coilovers and shocks and a TRD exhaust system for good measure.

Final Thoughts

The result speaks for itself. Unfortunately, it’s not for sale. Kevin Costner owns this beast of the outdoors, and you’ll probably have to fight him to take it away from him. Fortunately, there is a way to get one for yourself. All you need to do is buy a Toyota Tundra, hook up with Complete Customs, and ask to get — we think — the “Costner Package.” That may or not work, still, but at least you tried.
