The A91 Toyota Supra has been the center of controversy ever since early 2020, when Toyota announced that the 2021 model would benefit from more power and better engineering. It got even worse when it was announced that Europeans wouldn’t get the updated 2021 model, while Toyota announced its [justification for improving the Supra its second year->art188439 on the market, despite the shaft it gave first-year buyers. Beyond this, however, the Supra has proven itself to be worthy of the Supra name, and the latest addition to the 2022 lineup gives it the carbon-fiber look that it deserves. This is the 2022 Toyota Supra A91-CF (Carbon Fiber) Edition, but don’t get too excited yet because it’s a North American affair, and its production is limited.

The Toyota Supra A91-CF – Making Awesome Even Better

Despite all the controversy in the Supra’s first year on the market, the Supra has seen a lot of positive news too. The 2.0-liter model, for example, looks identical to the more powerful model, but boasts a near 50-50 weight distribution, making the ultimate corner carver. The more powerful model was found to produce nearly 450 horsepower on the dyno, and there’s even word that a Supra with the BMW M3’s engine is in the works. Beyond this, tuners have gone crazy with the Supra, with the most extreme model being this 2,000+ horsepower 2JZ-powered Supra but for more extreme looks, Liberty Walk created quite the mean widebody kit, too, and Manhart has managed to tune the Supra up to 500 horsepower.

Toyota has also had its hand in making the Supra even cooler than it is, with the coolest being the self-driving Supra drift car but other factory models like the GR Supra Jarama Race Track Edition did the car some justice too. Nothing from the factory so far, however, has anything on the new A91-CF edition. Based on the Supra 3.0, the A91-CF Edition includes a number of exposed carbon fiber elements, including:

-* Front splitter

-* Side rocker panels

-* Side and rear canards

-* Carbon fiber duckbill on the spoiler

These additions don’t make the Supra looker overly aggressive or even give it a “look at me” attitude, but it does humbly make the car look better and more premium if you’re into the whole carbon fiber thing. The coolest thing is that all of these add-ons are functional. The carbon fiber duckbill and vents add downforce at speed and improve stability, and while not explicitly implied, the design of the side skirts most likely help the downforce fight as well – a good thing since the Supra, especially the 3.0 model, can be quite spunky on the road.

The Interior does benefit from some extra carbon fiber trim and a new red\black color scheme, but that’s where the updates stop. Under the hood, the 3.0-liter inline-six still produces the same 383 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 368 pound-feet of torque at 1,800 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a ZF eight-speed automatic, but rumor has it that a manual transmission could be available in the future, so you might want to hold out a little longer. To add some perspective here, the 2020 Supra 3.0 was capable of 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque, and could hit 60 mph in 4.1 seconds vs. the 3.9 seconds of the 2021 model. The A91-CF might actually be a bit slower that the normal model at 4.0-seconds to 60 mph due to the extra downforce created by the new trim elements, but that’s just speculation at this point.



the 2022 Toyota Supra A91-CF Is Limited

Toyota only plans to sell the Supra A91-CF in North America, and it only plans to sell a total of 600 examples across the continent. Pricing has yet to be announced, but it should arrive at dealers in fall of 2021, at which point pricing will be made available. With the Supra 3.0 Premium commanding $54,590 and the Supra A91 Edition costing $54,795, you can probably expect all the extra exposed carbon fiber and interior enhancements on the limited A91-CF to increase the price point to at least $56,000 if not a little more, dealer markup notwithstanding, of course.
