Maybe The 2020 Toyota Supra Isn’t Compatible With the Nurburgring After All
Toyota may want to hold off on building its own version of the Nurburgring in Japan because it appears that the Supra doesn’t agree with the actual Nurburgring. The Japanese automaker’s new prized sports car crashed at the ‘Ring in a testing session that occurred during Industry Pool. The crash occurred at the Nordschleife’s Exmühle section, and available photos show that it was significant enough to cause the Supra’s bumper to get torn off completely. Details are limited on how the crash actually occurred, though considering where it occurred, the driver may have misjudged the racing line through this area, leading to a bit of understeer that ultimately led to the driver losing control of the sports car. Either way, the crashed Supra looks like it’s in need of a lot of repairs.
Here’s The Full Story On That Flying Toyota Tacoma
It’s been plastered on Facebook – that video clip of a late-model Toyota Tacoma dodging a police roadblock and ramping up an embankment, grabbing enough hang time to make the Duke Boys proud. Well, we’ve cut through the social media hype and found the original video. This KSLA news report from Webster Parish, Louisiana shows the jump and full aftermath.
The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28. Kevonte Dekorey Austin, an 18-year-old escaped work-release participant was the passenger in the sixth-generation Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road. A Webster Sherriff deputy pulled the Tacoma over for speeding. The driver was removed from the truck and was being questioned by the deputy when Austin slid behind the wheel and drove away.
The Sheriff’s department pursued Austin and the truck, with speeds reaching 115 mph. The chase came to a dramatic end when Austin hit a spike strip, narrowly missing police vehicles that blocked the roadway. The speeding truck then drove into a ditch before ramping over an embankment. The truck flew airborne for several yards and landed onto a parked Toyota Corolla. The Corolla was occupied by Barbara Harlon, who was remarkably unhurt.
The same couldn’t be said for the Tacoma and Corolla, however. The four-door car suffered a caved-in roof, while the Tacoma’s grille, bumper, and radiator were completely destroyed, along with its front suspension. All four tires suffered puncture holes from the spike strip.
The Tacoma was reported stolen, so both Austin and the truck’s original driver were taken into custody. Austin was last seen on February 8 leaving Halco Productions in Shreveport where he was employed on a work-release program. Fittingly enough, Austin was in jail for a probation violation and… car theft.
Something tells me Austin won’t be eligible for work-release anytime soon.
Some images are just really hard to digest, and these are a few of them. An impeccably maintained, 1967 Toyota 2000GT met a sudden and untimely death after an 98-foot-tall tree fell on it, crushing the supercar into a flattened mess in the Toyoma Prefecture’s Gokoyama area.
NHK is reporting that a 28-year-old driver was inside the car when the tree, which was already rotten inside, fell on it. Fortunately, the man only suffered cuts to his arms and legs, incredibly escaping more serious injuries, given the state of the 2000GT.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that this 2000GT, considered as Japan’s original supercar, appears to be beyond repair. It becomes even more sickening when you consider it was one of just 351 2000GT models Toyota ever built.
What’s more, a 2000GT actually sold for $1.15 million in 2013, making it the most expensive Toyota ever sold and the most expensive Asian car in history, according to Hagerty’s Price Guide.
Now all that’s left of this particular 2000GT are scrap parts. What a sad sight.

Toyota has invested a lot into the redesigned 2014 Corolla sedan, heralding its new designs both inside and out as fresh and exciting, but despite the new looks, the Corolla falls short in the safety department. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ranks the new Corolla as “marginal” in the small-overlap crash test.
The new-for-2013 small overlap crash test has caught many automakers off-guard with its stringent new standards, but Toyota is feeling the ill effects with many of its vehicles. The Camry, Prius V, and RAV4 all received a “poor” rating in the new test. As a result, those vehicles will not qualify for the IIHS Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ honors.
During the test, the Corolla suffered damage to the driver’s foot well, raising the chances of lower-leg injuries. The dummy’s head also rolled to the left of the airbag and could potentially strike the A-pillar or dashboard. Luckily, the side curtain airbag deployed properly and prevented any injuries to the dummy’s head.
Toyota was obviously not happy with the results. Spokesman John Hanson even questioned the new standard’s relevancy by saying, “When all-new crash tests are introduced by the [IIHS], we need to be confident that the changes needed to accommodate the tests will enhance overall safety in real-world crashes.”
The IIHS says the new standards are in response to research suggesting that 25 percent of all highway deaths are caused by small overlap head-on collisions.
The news isn’t all bad for Toyota, however. The redesigned Scion tC earned the second-highest safety rating of “acceptable” in the small-overlap frontal crash test back in August.

Lamborghini destroyed in I-196 crash
The Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 not only costs a medium-sized fortune, it also pumps 631 ponies from its 6.5-liter V-12 engine. That really should give you the confidence to not need to race anyone, as you would beat three-quarters of the cars on the road anyhow, especially a compact import econobox.
So when a “Toyota-type passenger car” pulls along side your $400K+ car and starts revving his little 4- or 6-banger, you should just look, smile, and carry on as normal. Apparently, a Michigan man didn’t get this memo, as he chose to allegedly fly down the highway with said Toyota-type car trailing – you do the math; sounds like a race to us – and proceeded to wreck his beautiful Murcielago.
This wasn’t just some little “oopsy” fender bender either. He put his pricey Lambo straight into a line of trees at a very high speed. On top of that, the car then turned into a very expensive ball of flames, leaving the Lambo a charred and melted mess. Fortunately, the driver got out of the car safely and only suffered a bump on the head and a huge bump in his wallet.
The only thing that comes to our mind is “Why?” Why on earth would you put so much effort into racing a freaking Toyota passenger car that you careen off of the road and slam your $400K+ car into the treeline? Hopefully this guy takes two lessons from this ordeal:
No. 1: Street racing is for tool bags that are attempting to compensate for something.
No. 2: Don’t race your $400K car against a Toyota... It’s bad Karma (Fiery Fisker pun intended).
Capital punishment. It’s one of the most fiercely debated issues plaguing the world and whether or not it should be performed, no matter the severity of the crime committed. This latest case is sure to spark off even more topical debate about the issue as a man from Saudi Arabia was recently sentenced to death by public beheading after killing two people.
The man, identifying himself as “Mustannish,” killed two spectators a few months back when he lost control of his ‘drifting’ car in a reckless form of outlaw driving known commonly as “Hagwalah” which takes place in the land-locked nation.
In short, it simply involves hoons taking to the streets in stock Honda’s and Toyota’s and performing dangerous slides and spins in their cars with spectators watching the action from just meters away.
If you want to find out more about these hoons, then simply head over to YouTube were you’ll find a selection of videos, including the one above, of these drivers and their idiotic ways of showing-off. Keep in mind however, that several clips posted to YouTube have depicted spectators being hit by the cars, although a select few have been removed due to their severity.
Anyway, back to the issue at hand. The following video purportedly depicts “Mustannish,” which directly translates to “he who ignores,” in one of his many failed attempts at impressing the crowd before crashing into a sand bank. Fortunately, in this particular video, no one seems to be injured.
However, the case which has landed the man in hot water occurred when he plowed into the crowd, killing two, and the aforementioned punishment was swiftly handed down: Public beheading by sword. Not pleasant.
Despite this firm punishment, it’s currently unclear if and when the penalty will actually take place, as another man who killed three in 2005 under similar circumstances had his death penalty wavered and instead faced 3,000 lashes and 20 years in prison.
Last month, the black cloud over Toyota Racing’s head reared up again in the form of one of its drivers crashing the TS030 Hybrid at Paul Ricard circuit bad enough to render it useless. This forced Toyota Racing to cancel the T030’s debut at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
It appears as if the black clouds have cleared up again, as Toyota Racing has announced that a new monocoque is complete and testing will resume almost immediately. This also puts the team on pace to hold true to its promise of debuting on June 16th for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
We’ll be honest in saying that we had our doubts that Toyota could get a monocoque built in time to test before the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but Toyota Racing certainly stepped up to the task and pumped out a replacement vehicle. The issue now is that the monocoque the team is testing was slated to be a spare, and now there is no spare. We’re willing to bet that the brass at TR are telling the drivers to mind their Ps and Qs while testing. According to Toyota’s press release, however, TR will be entering two T030s into 24 Hours of Le Mans, so a second monocoque must be in the works.
With only a little more than a month of testing and tinkering to do, this really leaves Toyota with very little time to really adjust the car and allow the drivers to get a feel for it. Yes, it is the same build as the original TS030, built as with all cars, there is a little variance between each build.
We’re all pulling for Toyota to make a clean return to Le Mans from here on out.

Toyota’s road racing days pretty much grounded to a halt when corporate headquarters pulled the automaker from the F1 program after the 2009 racing season. Since 2009, Toyota Motor Company has shown improvements, as buyers began returning after the car-buying slump ended and the safety issues that plagued the automaker were rectified. This allowed Toyota to start to experiment with road racing again and develop the TS030 Hybrid.
The TS030 Hybrid had its debut race set for the Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on May 5th, 2012. Things were looking good for the 3.4-liter V-8-powered TS030 Hybrid until its most recent test run. An undisclosed driver was testing out the TS030 at Paul Ricard and must have had a fairly horrific crash, as Toyota Racing Team President announced that the team could not build a new monocoque – chassis for those that don’t speak race-a-nese – in time for the May 5th debut.
Most people would think “Why not just use a second body; they all have spares, right?" Well, when you are easing your toes back into the racing pool, like Toyota is, you can’t really afford to go blowing millions of dollars building and testing multiple cars. In the future, yes, they will have multiple monocoques, but for now there was only one.
According to the press release, a new monocoque will be ready in time for the June running at the Le Mans 24 Hours.
A few things come to mind here. First off, was Toyota planning on arriving at the Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps with only one monocoque? Secondly, how much of a bum does the driver that thrashed their only vehicle feel right about now? Maybe that’s why they kept wraps on which driver it was that wrecked it.
Well, here’s to a speedy rebuild, Toyota, and we hope to see you in June, sans the black cloud floating over your head.

One of the most talked about sports cars of the year was finally revealed a month ago, and since then, it’s been popping up everywhere, including in the popular racing franchise, Gran Turismo.
For fans of Gran Turismo 5, the thought of finally getting behind the wheel of a Toyota GT 86 is certainly worth the $3.99 price tag attached to the second round of downloadable content for the game.
Polyphony is set to release a Car Pack 2 program and Update 2.02 through the PSN Network just in time for Christmas. For the former, that means you can finally play a slew of new vehicles in the game, including the 2011 Mini Cooper S, the 2010 Volkswagen Golf VI R, the 2010 Volkswagen Scirocco R, and the 2012 Nissan GT-R Black Edition R35. Other fixes and improvements that are part of the Car Pack 2 program include the ability to change wheels on Standard cars, free coupons that allow you to wash cars, change oil, overhaul your engine, or refresh the car body in GT Auto. The CP2 pack also allows you to see how the oil changes, aerodynamic parts, engine overhauls, and racing modifications will affect performance points and engine power in GT Auto. Meanwhile, in screens where the [Garage] and [Driver List] buttons are displayed in the A/B Spec events, Special Events, and Seasonal Events, pressing the ’square’ button will lead you to the [Garage], and pressing the ’triangle’ button will bring up the drivers list.
Then, there’s the Update 2.02, which is important to get as soon as possible if for only one - and only one - reason. By downloading the update, you finally get your hands on a 2012 Toyota GT 86.
It’s always sad when we have to report on a crashed supercar, but this latest accident takes that depression to epic proportions. Not one, not two, but eight Ferraris, as well as a Lamborghini, two Mercedes models, and two Toyota models have been utterly destroyed this past weekend during a terrible crash on a highway in Japan. The Ferraris destroyed were: several F355 units, an F-360, and an F-430. The losses are being estimated at around $1.5 million, but some are reporting losses of up to $4 million! Fortunately no one was seriously injured in the accident, but 10 people sustained bruising and minor injuries, probably to their egos as well as their bodies.
"The accident occurred when the driver of a red Ferrari was switching from the right lane to the left and skidded," said Mitsuyoshi Isejima, Executive Officer for Yamaguchi Prefecture’s Expressway Traffic Police unit. "It was a gathering of narcissists."
The driver responsible, a 60-year-old man may face up to three months in jail or a fine of as much as $1,280 - considering the damage, we’d say he got off easy. The police officers needed about six hours to clear the highway, although it may take the drivers a lifetime to forget this horrific experience ever happened.

Looks like Toyota’s woes aren’t about to slow down - no pun intended - anytime soon. That became apparent when the latest Toyota vehicle - a Toyota Camry - crashed into an Advance Auto Parts store in Shreveport, Lousiana, almost running into a Corvette owner inside the store.
According to the owner of the Camry-turned-missile, he was trying to stop the car and braked only to watch helplessly as the car instead accelerated straight through the car parts store. Fortunately for the driver, the local police investigating the incident have yet to issue a citation and as far as the Corvette owner who nearly lost his life, he lived to tell the story of his harrowing ordeal, complete with a vivid description of the crash as it occurred.

Before you get all freaked out about the thought of a person sitting inside this Toyota Yaris when a huge boulder fell on it, we’ll spare you from that God-awful news. Thankfully, nobody was inside the car when this happened. If there was someone there, there’s a remote chance that that person would have made it out alive.
The accident occurred in the Derbyshire Peak District in the UK when a truck carrying those mammoth boulders accidentally dropped one straight into a poor Yaris that was clearly at the wrong place, at the wrong time.
The car’s owner, a lovely young female, parked the car and ran a seemingly innocuous errand only to return to her car to see what’s pretty much left of it. There’s no word yet on what the proceedings will be as a result of this accident although the truck company responsible for this boulder-sized error should do the right thing and open up their wallets to buy the young lady a new car.
We’re still perishing with the thought of a person inside that car when this happened. We’re thankful that nobody was there, but if there was someone inside, that would’ve been a really sucky way to lose a life.
In the land of Hollywood comes another car crash with yet another inattentive driver behind the wheel thinking that just because he’s got a high-powered sports car, it gives him free reign to exercise his need for speed.
A fourth-generation Toyota Supra lost control in Southern California after the driver of the car somehow veered away from the road and launched itself into a sidewalk where it smashed front-first onto a pole before nestling snugly on a patch of grass.
There’s not much else we know about the crash except that the damage to the Supra wasn’t as bad as it should have been, which is great news considering steel poles aren’t exactly the cushiest things to hit your car on.
A ship carrying Toyota 3900 vehicles from Japan to Portland, Oregon, caught fire on Tuesday. It is unclear how many vehicles were damaged in the blaze. The only information available was that the fire was put out after a worker sealed part of the ship.
“About every two years this new century, the oceans of our planet seem to get hungry for cars.” John Pearley Huffman may have been making a prophecy in this October’s issue of Car and Driver. Huffman’s article told the story of Mazda’s 2006 car loss from the Cougar Ace capsizing, and he also said that it was about time again for the Car Gods to give another sacrifice to Mother Ocean (Volvo had an incident in 2002 and Hyundai had one in 2004.)
So is the automotive world safe again on the high seas for another 24 months? Then again in the slowing economy, if the boat wasn’t loaded with Priuses it may have been a blessing in disguise.
The redesigned Chevrolet Impala and Toyota Avalon, both equipped with standard side airbags, earn top ratings of good in side crash tests that simulate an impact from an SUV or pickup truck. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently conducted side tests of eight large family cars. The Buick Lucerne and Hyundai Azera, also equipped with standard side airbags, earn the second highest rating of acceptable.
