Toyota introduced the new, third-gen 2022 Tundra a couple of months back. The third-gen truck was due for a long as the second-gen model was in production for 14 years. The company tweaked it many times in its run, but it started to feel too long in the tooth when compared to its chief rivals. The new 2022 Tundra was expected to come with a lot of new specs and features and it didn’t disappoint.

The highlight of the new Tundra are its drivetrain options. The company ditched the old V-8 workhorse in favor of a V-6 that is offered in three configurations. Apart from this, it rides on a new platform and features a new suspension setup, has a sharper exterior, and comes with a tech-heavy, updated interior. It starts at nearly $36,000; up by over $1,500 over the model it replaces.

Toyota has been jacking up its trucks and SUVs and slapping them with the TRD Pro cadge for a long time now. The ’TRD Pro’ suffix is a privilege of sorts these days, and the vehicles that are honored with it go on to become big. Seeing mainstream Toyota vehicles injected with TRD DNA are a blessing. At the Chicago Auto Show, the Japanese giant decided to add one more model to its lineup that included the Tundra, Tacoma, and the 4Runner. Toyota teased the new addition to the TRD Pro family a few days before the Chicago Auto Show commenced and people took wild guesses to figure out which model had been drugged. But Toyota dropped a bomb when the vehicle happened to be the age-old Sequoia SUV. Well, the rest is history.

Luxurious Off-Roader Toyota Land Cruiser Celebrates Its 60+ Years In The US

Toyota simply loves to celebrate important dates with heritage editions of its cars. Especially ones involving the almighty Land Cruiser (per my humble opinion the best vehicle on Earth, like ever). Revealed ahead of the official live debut at the Chicago Motor Show next month, the Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition celebrates 60+ years of the Land Cruiser in the US. Although the Land Cruiser 200 is a decade old, it is still very much at the pinnacle of luxurious world of off-roaders. The Heritage Edition did gain a few interesting differentiating touches, but in essence, it is still very much the same body-on-frame truck with a two-speed transfer case and selectable low gear that it was a decade ago.

During its ten year tenure on the market, Toyota celebrated a number of anniversaries and important dates with the Land Cruiser 200. In 2013, Toyota said that the “Land Cruiser is the Luxurious Descendant of A Proud 50-Year Off-Road Heritage” In 2014 Toyota said that the “Land Cruiser Luxury SUV Doesn’t Look A Day Over 50” In 2016 Toyota mentioned that the “Land Cruiser Celebrates 60th Year in America with Ultimate Capability and Luxury” And, finally, in 2019 - “Land Cruiser Heritage Edition Celebrates 60+ Years as SUV Icon”

A series of black details highlight the changes, a lot of which give the 4Runner a darkened appearance. The 4Runner Nightshade Special Edition $1,740 to the 4Runner’s sticker price of $43,225.

More variants bring more choice to customers

The Toyota Hilux pickup receives several new trims for the 2018 model year. These include three new SR cab-chassis variants, a new WorkMate grade for the 4WD Double Cab-Chassis, and the Hi-Rider option on 2WD trucks is now offered on the WorkMate Double-Cab, SR Extra Cab, and the SR5 Double Cab. What’s more, the availability of an automatic transmission expands from 12 models to 17 models. In other words, there are now more choices for customers.

This is the first change Toyota has brought to the Hilux since the current generation’s introduction in 2016. It comes in part as a response to changing customer wants as the expectation for higher comfort levels increase, while the need for work-grade trims holds steady. In fact, Toyota saw more than 60 percent of new Hilux sales have automatic transmissions – a first for the rugged pickup.

An old favorite gets some modern updates

The Toyota Land Cruiser is about as iconic as vehicles come, so it’s a big deal when something changes. For 2018 in global markets, the Land Cruiser is getting a few appearance upgrades and a redesigned dashboard – both in an effort to keep this go-anywhere, three-row SUV flying off showroom floors. Toyota debuted its updated Land Cruiser at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show ahead of its on-sale date later this year.

The Land Cruiser’s reputation is rooted in reliability and its rugged dependability in off-road situations, often far from civilization. It makes sense, then, that Toyota boasts about the SUV being “easy to maintain and repair” right in its press materials. You won’t find that in a Land Rover’s press kit. While easy trail repairs isn’t the Land Cruiser’s best selling point in North America where customers view it as a status symbol, many of the 190 countries place an extreme value on making a round trip when leaving the house. Of course, the 2018 Land Cruiser is more than just reliable transportation. It offers plenty of luxury and creature comforts, too. Let’s check out what changes Toyota has made for 2018. Perhaps some of these will even make it to the U.S.-spec Land Cruiser, as well.

Toyota’s most family-friendly vehicle

The minivan segment might not be the most glamorous vehicle category, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more functional, practical, and economical ride when it comes to transporting seven of your closest friends and family. Yep, the minivan can haul people and their stuff in glorious comfort while making most SUV crossovers look cramped and poorly designed. Sadly, the minivan gets a bad rap. It’s pigeon holed as the mommy-mobile on it way between soccer and ballet, filled with Cheerio crumbs and at least one soured formula bottle lost in one of the dozens of cup holders.

Looking past that stereotype reveals a rather competitive segment, with hot players from Honda, Kia, Nissan, and of course Toyota. While each of these automakers have respectable offerings, it’s the all-new Chrysler Pacifica that has the minivan segment on fire in 2016. In light of this, we wanted a closer look at Toyota’s offering.

The Sienna has been around since 1998, undergoing three generational changes since then, with its most recent change being a mid-cycle refresh in 2014. Not much has changed since then, but the Sienna still provides a great place for seven or eight passengers (depending on seating configuration), decent fuel economy, and most of the modern tech folks expect these days.

2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid - Driven

The Avalon has been a quiet stalwart of the Toyota lineup, providing a plush ride for those not interesting in owning a luxury brand (i.e. Lexus), but want all the bells and whistles normally associated with one. Equipped in the Limited trim, the Avalon offers just as many luxuries as say, the Lexus ES or even GS sedans, but without the hubbub. Add to that a fantastic hybrid system, and the result is a surprising package that affirms its halo role in the Toyota lineup.

I recently spent a week and a generous road trip getting to know the Avalon Hybrid. In fact, I took the car on an eight-hour adventure to my hometown for my 10-year high school reunion. The Avalon might not garner the same attention as the Lexus RC F from late 20-somethings, but I didn’t go with the mindset of impressing.

My wife and I made the quiet journey from central Florida north to I-10, then due west to the sleepy little town of Pascagoula, Mississippi. Save for a few high-profile tobacco attorneys, many of the town’s 22,000 residents are blue-collar, with folks working in the fishing, shipbuilding, or oil industries. Still, Southern charm runs deep here, with wrap-around porches on antebellum homes, sprawling live oak trees covered in Spanish moss, and thick, twangy drawls coming from gents and belles alike.

In other words, it was the perfect place for such a subtle luxury car to fit in.

2016 Toyota Avalon

Back in the 2013 model year, Toyota fully redesigned the Avalon, giving it a sleeker, sexier, and more luxurious look. Along with this redesign, Toyota made the Avalon’s body slightly shorter and wider, improving its stance and giving passengers more shoulder and hip room. Despite being the third-best-selling full-size sedan in 2014, Toyota unveiled a refreshed version for the 2016 model year at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show.

With the Chicago Auto Show’s opening in the books, we now get to see what the refreshed Avalon looks like. I honestly expected a little more from Toyota, but considering its place in the sales list and the fact that it has no hopes of catching up to the Impala, which more than doubled the Avalon in 2014 sales, I can’t say I’m surprised the refresh was so minor.

2014 Toyota Avalon Limited - Driven

While I may be the local purveyor of all things that go fast here at TopSpeed.com, I do enjoy the quiet and luxury that comes with large cars like the Toyota Avalon. I also enjoy the advancements made in fuel economy over the last few years and get enjoyment in seeing just how high I can push that mpg gauge. Earlier this year, I was given the keys to the Avalon Hybrid for a week and I thoroughly enjoyed the machine. I felt it was quiet, luxurious and fuel economy was excellent; even if it was a little slow and I didn’t like the CVT. Cut forward a few weeks, and there is a new Toyota Avalon in my driveway, but this one is fitted with the family V-6.

That means 268 horsepower, a six-speed transmission and fuel economy that is still above 30 mpg. Would this pure petrol-powered Avalon cure my quibbles about the Hybrid’s speed while still providing all the luxury and features I had come to love?

That 268 horsepower told me that the best way to find out would be to drive the wheels off the car; naturally, I did my best to oblige. Read on to find out what I learned.

2015 Toyota Sienna - Driven

Toyota has been in the minivan market for decades, though the Sienna didn’t roll on the scene until 1998. That first year, the Sienna was marketed as the “Camry of Minivans.” That made sense since it was based on the Camry and used the same 194-horsepower, 3.0-liter V-6. The second-generation Sienna came around in 2004 with much improved styling that looked more grown up. A larger, more powerful V-6 was used and the interior had more creature comforts. Things soldiered on almost unchanged until 2011 when the third generation entered production.

Technically the Sienna is still in its third generation, but for 2015, the Swagger Wagon gets a smart exterior update, an updated dashboard, and even more added comfort.

I spent some time catching a sneak peak at the revisions on the 2015 Sienna along the white sands of Ponte Vedra Beach in sunny Florida. The cool breeze and warm weather were perfect for a family vacation, and so was the Sienna. With seating for up to eight passengers and all their gear, the Sienna proved yet again why minivans do it better.

With the rear seats folded, there’s more cargo room than in many crossovers, plus seats for five. That’s hard to beat. Mom and dad up front now have the ability to communicate with backseat passengers though Toyota’s EasySpeak microphone system. A new dash layout complete with an easy-to-use HVAC control, Entune infotainment system, and revised gauge cluster means this Swagger Wagon rolls in style and utility.

2014 Toyota Tundra 1794 - Driven

The Tundra is an obscure model in the Toyota lineup. In the world that is dominated by the "Detroit Three," Toyota continually strives to create a pickup that is worthy of the masses, even if the sales are far from stellar. The current-generation truck is getting quite old — it debuted in 2007 — so Toyota has given it a full visual overhaul inside and out for 2014. TopSpeed went to the first press drive and came away quite impressed, but how would the truck fair in the real world?

I took possession of a top-level trim 1794 Edition Tundra for a week to put it through its paces. The GM twins are all-new this year, the new Ford F-150 comes out next year, and the Ram should be getting refreshed soon. In this world of fast evolving pickups does the new Tundra have what it takes to stay relevant?

I spent more than 800 miles beating on this beast to see if it had what it takes to be a real truck that sees real work.

2015 Toyota Sienna

The Swagger Wagon is rolling into 2015 with some minor changes and updates centered mainly around a few exterior cosmetic bits and a few interior pieces. The new Sienna minivan isn’t much different from the outgoing van, which debuted back in 2011. The Sienna dates back to 1998 when Toyota launched the all-new minivan as a replacement for the mid-engine Previa minivan. (Yes, the Previa’s engine sat under the front seats!) The Sienna then moved into its second generation in 2004 and onto the third generation in 2011.

Toyota decided to take an unconventional approach to launching the 2015 Sienna and has enlisted the help of three kid-caring, viral Interwebz families that will help promote the van’s image as a cool parent-mobile. The marketing strategy piggybacks on the success of Toyota’s Swagger Wagon campaign back in 2011.

Officially the new Sienna will be launched in person at the Artscape, a free-arts festival in Baltimore, MD that happens from July 18th through 20th. But for those outside of Baltimore, the parents behind “Action Movie Kid,” “Eh Bee Family,” and “Convos with My 2-Year-Old” will be touting the Sienna’s launch hard on the web.

2014 Toyota Avalon - Driven

Toyota introduced the Avalon to the U.S. market way back in 1995 as its more upscale, full-size sedan slotted between the Camry and more luxurious Lexus brand. It originally rode on a stretched version of the Camry’s platform and even shared its 3.0-liter, V-6 engine. Generational changes in 2000, 2005, and again in 2013 have kept the Avalon fresh with revised looks, interior appointments, and updated drivetrains.

I recently spent a week getting to know a 2014 Avalon in its most well-appointed form. My Limited tester came coated in a really beautiful dark-blue color Toyota calls Parisian Night Pearl. Its interior came awashed in soft-touch, tan leather seats with contrasting Parisian Night Pearl stitching and accent pieces. Equipped with the Technology Package, my Avalon came fitted with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Automatic High Beams, and the Pre Collision System. Also present was Toyota’s innovative Qi Wireless Charging system (pronounced "Chee") that works with like-enabled electronic devices.

Though those were the only two main extra-cost options, the Limited trim package took care of checking the other option boxes in one fell swoop, netting nearly every conceivable amenity desired on modern sedans. Heated and cooled leather seats with 10-way adjustments, moonroof, navigation, HID headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a laundry list of standard safety equipment.

Speaking of safety, the Avalon comes rated with five stars across the board from the NHTSA, except for the driver-side frontal crash, which earned a still-respectable four stars. Its other government ratings aren’t bad either. The EPA rates the Avalon at 21 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined.

The Avalon might not be the most exciting product Toyota builds these days, but it fulfills its intended purpose of passenger comfort very well. Out of all the cars I’ve piloted lately, the Avalon would be my pick for a long-haul roadtrip with the family.

2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid

2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid

After dropping the first details on the fourth generation Avalon, Toyota has announced that the new model will also be offered with a hybrid powertrain - a first for this sedan. Toyota has promised that this hybrid Avalon will deliver excellent fuel economy with an EPA-rating of 40 mpg combined.

The new hybrid Avalon combines a 2.5-liter, Atkinson-cycle, four-cylinder engine, with a 244.8-volt nickel-metal hydride battery pack and a pair of electric motor/generators within the trans-axle. It will deliver an impressive output of 200 HP and delivers a fuel economy of 40 mpg in the city and a 39 mpg on the highway. The model comes with three unique modes of operation: EV, Eco, and Sport. In EV mode, the model can travel as an all-electric vehicle to speeds of up to 25 mph. Eco mode combines the two, while in Sport mode, the model takes full advantage of the car’s improved chassis and enhanced suspension.

The hybrid transaxle in the new Avalon contains two high-output electric motor/generators, a power-split device, an open differential, and the final drive ratio. Motor/Generator 1 (MG1) is used to start the gasoline engine and generate the energy that is returned to the battery to power the system. Motor/Generator 2 (MG2) is primarily responsible for electric drivetrain propulsion and regenerative braking. The hybrid vehicle transaxle also incorporates a flywheel-damper design that helps reduce noise and vibration during engine engagement.

The new Toyota Avalon Hybrid goes on sale later in 2012 and prices will be announced at a later date.
