2020 Toyota Mirai Sedan Concept
The 2020 Toyota Mirai Sedan Concept is a show car that previews the second-generation Mirai. Introduced in 2015, the Toyota Mirai was the first hydrogen production model offered in North America. The 2020 Mirai Sedan Concept shows a completely redesigned model on the outside, now featuring a sportier body with a four-door sedan layout. The production model will arrive in late 2020.
Although it’s labeled as a concept car, this vehicle gives us serious hints as to what to expect from the production-ready second-gen Mirai. That’s because the car you’ll find in dealerships will be almost identical. The big news besides the new exterior design and the more refined interior is the Premium RWD Platform that replaces the old architecture. And yes, this means that the second-gen Mirai will drop the FWD layout in favor of a sportier RWD setup. Toyota also promises a 30 percent increase in driving range and increased hydrogen capacity.
2020 Toyota MR2
Originally produced between 1984 and 2007, the Toyota MR2 is a legendary little sports car, boasting a cult-like following and all the right stuff to make any auto enthusiast’s mouth water. Throughout the MR2’s 23-year career, Toyota ushered in three individual generations, consisting of the W10 between 1984 and 1989, the W20 between 1990 and 1999, and the W30 between 2000 and 2007. The name is a reference to the drivetrain layout (mid-engine, rear-wheel drive), while the “2” denotes the number of seats in the cabin. The original formula goes something like this – transverse mid-engine, rear-wheel drive, sharp, responsive handling, very little weight, small exterior dimensions, and an affordable sticker. All told, the Toyota MR2 is a true-blue classic, a pure driver’s ride, like a compact Japanese Ferrari without the exotic price tag. And now it’s looking like Toyota might bring it out of retirement.
The speculation stems from a recent statement made by Gazoo Racing head Tetsuya Tada, who told Evo at the 2017 Geneva Show that he hopes to have “The Three Brothers” back in the Toyota lineup “as soon as possible.” In case you were wondering, those “brothers” include the Supra, the Celica, and the MR2, Toyota’s iconic ’90s-era performance machine trio. Word has it we’re inching closer to a reveal of the new Supra, and the current GT86 is a decent replacement for the Celica, but what about a new Mister Two? We got curious, so we drew up a rendering and put together a few theories.

2019 Toyota Tundra
The current Toyota Tundra has been around since 2007, with only a modest update for the 2014 model year. This makes Toyota’s full-size truck the oldest in the segment, falling well past its competition. News from Toyota is nearly nonexistent on an update, but there is a solid case for 2019 being the target year. In typical Toyota fashion, a game-changing update isn’t expected, but rather a well conceived renewal of what works. In an attempt to capture this, we’ve created a rendering that plays off the Tacoma’s detailing yet still captures the Tundra’s main theme.
As for what’s under the bodywork, well, there is speculation Toyota will employ its newest D-4S dual fuel injection technology into a heavily revised, if not all new, V-8 engine. An eight- or 10-speed automatic transmission might be in the works, while a strengthened steel frame gives the pickup a stronger backbone.
The Tundra’s reach into the luxury truck stratosphere is also expected, with upscale equipment and niceties added to the 1794 Edition and Platinum models. Toyota could also introduce a new Limited Platinum model as a range-topping trim, just as on the Highlander. Trucks like the Ford F-150 Limited and GMC Sierra 1500 Denali offer luxuries far beyond what’s available on the Tundra. The remaining trims will likely carry over, including the SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, and TRD Pro. The three cab configurations are expected to make the generational jump, including the Regular Cab, Double Cab, and CrewMax cab.

Toyota Has BMW M And Mercedes AMG In Its Sights
Toyota has had a pretty wild and successful history and in 2013 the company fell just $20,000 shy of crossing the annual sales threshold of more than $10 million. The company is still doing well as of the time of this writing, but it did just recently absorb the Scion brand due to poor sales. Toyota has always been one of the go-to brands for economy cars like the Corolla and the Camry, so the Scion brand didn’t stand much of a chance, but what happened to the days when Toyota had a few exciting cars too? Well, those days might be coming back if Toyota’s lead engineer for the Toyota 86 – Tetsuya Tada – has anything to say about it.
In a recent interview with CarAdvice Tada admitted that he was on a mission to convince Toyota to create a performance division. I know you’re probably thinking “what about TRD?” right? Well TRD is so invested in trucks at the moment that Toyota needs something else. If you don’t believe me, just look at how little TRD did to the 2015 Toyota TRD Corolla, the 2015 Toyota TRD Camry, and the 2016 Toyota Yaris TRD Sportivo – all three were about as disappointing as finding out that your wife is cheating on you. The future may hold something better, though, as Tada wants to absorb Gazoo Racing just like BMW did with M Performance and Audi did with Quattro GmbH.
In the interview with CarAdvice, Tada said, “BMW has its M Division, Mercedes-Benz has Mercedes-AMG, Audi has Quattro GmbH, so they have a stance of a sports car, but Toyota hasn’t. So I would like to build that major sports car brand within Toyota, like BMW’s M. He continued, “BMW and M and Audi and Quattro GmbH used to be like the Toyota relationship with Gazoo—it wasn’t really one body, it was two separate things, but because of the time and the continuous effort, now they are together. So, I’m wishing that Toyota puts effort continuously, and then someday later, Toyota and Gazoo will be one body.”
How can you argue with logic like that? Toyota has become a dull company that provides your everyday family movers, but nothing exciting to brag about. Here’s to hoping that Tada gets his way sooner than later and Toyota either creates a new performance division or absorbs Gazoo.

It’s been nearly four years since it launched the 2013 Toyota GT 86, and Toyota has been receiving a lot of heat for the lack of updates for the rear-wheel-drive sports car. This will change in 2016, as the Japanese are finally working on a facelift for the GT 86. That’s the word from our trusty paparazzi, who spotted a camouflaged model on the road.
The prototype surfaced while most of our attention was directed toward the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, a venue packed with loads of awesome new cars and concepts, but our carparazzi also kept an eye out for any new mule that might come out to play. Turns out they were right to do so, as this GT 86 prototype has quite a few new features hidden underneath its swirly camouflage.
The GT 86 is finally getting its long-awaited upgrade, which will also find its way to the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S, and although the facelifted model won’t break cover in 2016, these spy shots provides us with a few hints as to what to expect from the two-door coupe. Toyota has just announced an all-new SUV for the Australian market – the Fortuner. Based on the newest version of the venerable Hilux pickup truck, the Fortuner is a rugged, body-on-frame SUV with seating for seven that’s powered by the same turbodiesel engine found in the Hilux and comes standard with a part-time, two-speed 4WD system and electronic locking rear differential.
Tony Cramb, Toyota Australia’s executive director of sales and marketing, says the Fortuner is the brand’s diesel alternative to the Kluger, Australia’s version of the Highlander. The Fortuner is also far more rugged and trail-ready than the unibody Kluger while slotting under the surprisingly similar Land Cruiser Prado in terms of luxury and price. Though both the Prado and Fortuner are traditional SUVs with three rows of seats for seven people, the two vehicles will appeal to different audiences.
Toyota’s move to introduce the Fortuner makes more sense when considering both 2015 Ford Everest and Isuzu MU-X – both of which are based on their respective pickup truck platforms.
The Fortuner will arrive in Australian dealerships in October 2015 as a 2016 model and sale for a price that is still undisclosed. Early estimations suggest a starting price of around $45,000.

With the next-gen 2016 Toyota Prius expected to debut later this year, a recent report suggests that Toyota will continue to expand the lineup of dedicated hybrid vehicles with an all-new Prius SUV. Currently, the Prius lineup includes the Prius Liftback, Prius Plug-In, Prius c and Prius v, but a joint venture with Mazda – the same one that spawned the 2016 Scion iA – could help create yet another hybrid model with unparalleled fuel economy for Toyota. Differentiated from the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and 2015 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, the Prius SUV would only be offered as a hybrid, and if produced, it could possibly be based on the two-door 2016 Toyota C-HR Concept crossover unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
The obvious advantage of a
or SUV-based Prius is that attention to aerodynamics could be pushed back a little in favor of a traditional tall ride height, added versatility and more attention on creating a stylish vehicle. After looking at the C-HR Concept, we envisioned what a production version of the hybrid crossover would look like to come up with the rendering you see here. Toyota has yet to officially confirm any plans for a Prius SUV, but it doesn’t take much imagination to see that such a vehicle would be an exciting addition to the existing lineup of Prius hatchbacks.

The long wait is over – Toyota has released an all-new version of its immensely popular Hilux truck for the 2016 model year. The new eighth-generation truck carries a completely new exterior design that looks more upscale than the seventh generation, including plenty of chrome accents, LED-encrusted headlights, and a more cohesive overall design. The updates are far more drastic within the Hilux, as the truck now features a more refined cabin with a dashboard that hints at inspiration from the U.S.-spec Corolla. Toyota is offering a wide selection of powertrains, though choices will be limited for each market. The truck also gets a pair of new transmissions, with the manual gearbox offering active rev matching like the Corvette’s seven-speed manual. This makes the Hilux the first truck application for such technology.
The pickup truck is said to still carry all the rugged reliability that makes a Hilux a Hilux, while adding more creature comforts and interior refinements. That should bode well with truck folks in the 180 countries the Hilux calls home. Despite the new creature comforts, Toyota says the Hilux is still as rugged as ever and ready to handle what customers throw at it. More than 16 million Hilux trucks have been sold since its introduction in 1968, so undoubtedly Toyota is doing something right, and this new-gen model should help keep the ball rolling for a few more years.

Back in the 2013 model year, Toyota fully redesigned the Avalon, giving it a sleeker, sexier, and more luxurious look. Along with this redesign, Toyota made the Avalon’s body slightly shorter and wider, improving its stance and giving passengers more shoulder and hip room. Despite being the third-best-selling full-size sedan in 2014, Toyota unveiled a refreshed version for the 2016 model year at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show.
With the Chicago Auto Show’s opening in the books, we now get to see what the refreshed Avalon looks like. I honestly expected a little more from Toyota, but considering its place in the sales list and the fact that it has no hopes of catching up to the Impala, which more than doubled the Avalon in 2014 sales, I can’t say I’m surprised the refresh was so minor.

Remember Toyota’s hydrogen-powered FCV concept from the 2013 Tokyo Motor show? It took a couple of years, but for the 2015 model year, Toyota released the production version of the FCV Concept called the Toyota Mirai. In short, the Mirai is a sporty looking car that has an electric drivetrain and is powered completely by hydrogen. Currently only available in certain locals that have hydrogen fueling stations, the Mirai can achieve up to 310 miles per tank of hydrogen and emits nothing but a little H20 from its “exhaust” pipe. For being the best of its kind at this time, the Mirai has a respectable amount of cargo room in the rear boot and features an upscale interior with a digital, center-mounted instrument cluster and a large touchscreen infotainment system. Priced at more than $50,000 here in the U.S. the materials and their fit and finish inside are comparable to that of a Lexus or BMW.
When the Mirai made its official debut, Toyota also announced that it was unleashing a large campaign to start making hydrogen readily available for the masses. The brand has teamed up with hydrogen supplier Air Liquide to bring hydrogen to New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, to name a few. These add to the 19 refueling stations Toyota has helped bring to Southern California in the past.
Toyota believes that hydrogen will eventually be a fuel of choice, so it has been pushing the implementation of it pretty hard. So hard, in fact, that the Mirai is actually part of Toyota’s core lineup. Of course, it isn’t available in places where hydrogen isn’t available, but something tells us that Toyota will continue to push for new hydrogen stations in the future and will bring the Mirai and even more hydrogen vehicles to new areas as quickly as it can. Concept cars are being unveiled in all sorts of places these days. Take the case of Toyota for example. The Japanese automaker recently attended a private-panel discussion hosted by Make: magazine in San Francisco to unveil the Urban Utility Concept, or U2 in short. Toyota’s purpose of attending the event was to showcase the innovative concept that aims to attract young, entrepreneurial urban drivers. The U2 Concept was developed by the company’s Calty Design Research based in Newport Beach, California.
After its appearance at the private panel discussion, the Toyota Urban Utility Concept is scheduled to make its first public appearance at the World Maker Faire in New York City on Sept. 20 and 21, 2014.
It’s an appropriate venue to make its public debut, especially with Maker Faire events being geared towards modern inventions and growing entrepreneurship possibilities.
The Toyota U2 Concept fits in that kind of environment.

The Toyota GT86 and its Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S brothers were launched in 2012, with only the Suby and the Scion reaching U.S. shores shortly after. The triples share the same 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, boxer engine that generates 200 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. The unit mates to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic and enables the sports car to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 to 7.6 seconds.
Granted, the GT86 is not nearly the fastest sports car you can buy nowadays, but its sub-£26,000 sticker makes it affordable to the average Joe and quite the bargain compared to its competitors. However, the Toyobaru triplets are slowly but surely losing their appeal due to the fact that no true performance updates have been added in more than two years since their launch. But that’s about to change, as Toyota is getting ready to drop Subaru from the partnership.
Once that happens, Toyota will finally be able to develop a more potent, next-generation sports car, likely powered by a turbocharged engine and hybrid technology. Meanwhile though, it appears the Japanese are working on a new iteration of the current GT86, as confirmed by a new batch of spy shots we just found in our inbox.

When Toyota launched its FT-1 concept, the entire industry stood up and took notice of this new sports car. After further investigation, nearly all of us media folk drew a direct line between the new concept and the eventual return of the legendary Supra. We took the initiative to create a rendering of an FT-1-based Supra back in February, and what good is a new supra without the removable targa top that the model was known for having? So we are now adding a rendering of the convertible Supra to our repertoire today.
Once we created the coupe version of the our Supra rendering, the convertible version was pretty simple. All we needed to do was eliminate the center section of the roof, flatten out the rear section of the roof and add a frame just above the windshield. We also had to take some time to add in some seats to give it a more realistic look.
Just like with the coupe version of the Supra, converting the convertible model required revising the nose to lose that wild, F1-like nose, add more traditional headlights, smoothen out some of the air intakes and add on a more Supra-like rear spoiler.
I suspect that the convertible version will arrive about a year after the Supra coupe.

It appears Toyota will be the next automaker to adopt diesel technology into its full-size truck segment. According to WardsAuto, the Tundra will be getting a V-8 diesel powerplant when its next generation debuts in 2016. What’s more, word has it Tundra’s new oil-burner will be supplied by famed diesel builder, Cummins. And not just any Cummins at that…
It will be a version of the same 5.0-liter V-8 turbodiesel that rival truck-builder Nissan has slotted to power its next-generation Titan set to debut next year. Not only is this huge news for Tundra fans, it represents uncharted territory in diesel engine sharing on the light-duty level. Truck buyers are a fiercely loyal bunch, so it will be interesting to see where exactly loyalties fall — with the truck- or engine-builder.
There’s no official word on how the Tundra’s diesel will compare to the Titan’s, which is said to be rated at “more than” 300 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. The only sure thing is the certainty of some very intense engineering meetings between the three companies.
The overriding reason diesels are catching headlines these days is the need for automakers to meet the impending CAFÉ standards that are tightening up on corporate average mpg ratings. The target: a company average of 54.5 mpg by 2025. Nissan and Toyota aren’t the first to go diesel. Ram, in fact, already has their 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel currently on sale in the U.S. Rated at 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, the EcoDiesel Ram 1500 achieves a class-leading 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway.

When Toyota released the full-sized Sequoia, buyers stood up and took notice as this known-for-compact-cars company decided it was breaking its own mold by taking on the bug American SUVs head on. Here we are 12 years into the Sequoia’s run and it has consistently received rave reviews from owners and experts alike.
The current rendition has been around since 2008 and it is starting to get a little long in the tooth. Unfortunately, we don’t have any evidence that Toyota is planning to completely overhaul its full-size SUV any time soon. We do, however, have some new details regarding the 2013 model year, which may be a sign that a revamping of the body is coming in the next few years.
The vast majority of the upgrades to the 2013 Sequoia involved technology and comfort, but there are some minor mechanical upgrades that call for a little bit of attention. So, can the aging Sequoia keep itself near the top of the heap in the full-size SUV realm?

Two years ago, we were announcing that Toyota and Tesla Motors had entered an agreement that would net Tesla $60 million to design and manufacture an all-electric powertrain for the RAV4 SUV. Finally, after all of this time we have a debut date set. Unfortunately, it isn’t a showroom debut, but rather a showing of the final product.
Toyota has just has unveiled this new Tesla and Toyota collaboration to the U.S. at the International Electric Vehicle Symposium in LA on the May 7th at noon. The new RAV4 EV is powered by a 154 HP electric powertrain and has a driving range rating of approximately 100 miles and charging time of approximately six hours on a 240V/40A charger. It comes with two driving modes: Sport and Normal. In Sport version the car will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 7.0 seconds and will go up to 100 mph, while in Normal mode it will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 8.6 seconds with a maximum speed of 85 mph.
Compared to the standard RAV4, the new EV version will get a re-styled the front bumper, upper and lower grill, side mirrors, rear spoiler, and under body design to maximize air flow around the vehicle. The model will be offered in three exterior colors: Blizzard White Pearl, Shoreline Blue Pearl and Classic Silver Metallic combined with a unique "Neutron" fabric for the interior.
UPDATE 05/08/2012: The new Toyota RAV4 EV will go on sale in late Summer 2012 through select dealers at a starting price of $49,800.
Subaru and Toyota are continuing their sports car courtship by releasing drop top versions of their BRZ and GT-86 models in the next couple of years. We’ve already drawn up the BRZ Convertible, as well as Toyota’s more affordable Scion FR-S Convertible, but now it’s time for the GT-86 to get its turn on the drawing table.
Except for the roof, the GT-86 Convertible will feature the same design and technology as the coupe model. It will be a compact rear-wheel-drive sports coupe with an aerodynamic body that rides low to the ground to improve handling and allow it to cut through the air with ease. The fascia will be completely aggressive with long slit-looking headlights giving it a mean and intimidating look, as well as an enlarged lower grille and a bold "Scorpion" styling to the lower grille. Under the hood, it will feature the same 2.0 liter, naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 200 HP at 7000 rpm and 151 lb-ft of torque at 6600 rpm. This engine will be mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
The new Toyota GT-86 Convertible will be unveiled sometime in 2013 and will cost about $2,000 more than the coupe model. The Japanese market will be the first to receive it and they will be followed by the rest of the world.
The Tokyo Motor Show will be featuring an onslaught of concept cars coming from some of Japan’s biggest auto shows. The biggest of them all is Toyota, and they’ve finally revealed exactly what’s in store for us when the show opens at the end of November.
Once of the concepts that will be in attendance is the FCV-R (Fuel Cell Vehicle - Reality & Revolution). The FCV-R is a hydrogen-powered sedan-type concept that is being run on a promising source of CO2 emission-free energy that, according to Toyota, can be produced in a variety of ways using a number of sources and can be easily stored and transported.
The concept is being pegged as a future fuel cell model that the company is looking into bringing into production in a few year’s time. The overall set-up of the FCV-R Concept was designed with the aforementioned fuel-cell unit located just under the a specially designed bodyshell.
This unit carries a 70 MPa high-pressure hydrogen tank and has been improved to be able to produce a cruising distance of approximately 700 km, which is just under the Japanese JC08 test cycle.
More details behind the Toyota FCV-R will be made available when the Tokyo Motor Show opens on November 30.
Toyota’s participation at the Tokyo Motor Show will feature three new concepts. One of these concepts is called the Diji Concept, a futuristic take on a vehicle that that represents the Japanese automaker’s vision of seeing a future where "people, cars, and society are all linked."
If those words were a little hard to imagine, the first official photos of the Diji Concept will pretty much tell you what the car is all about. While official details behind the Fun-Vii are still being kept under wraps, the company has stated that the concept will have one unique quirk: a body that can be used to display images on BOTH the exterior and the interior.
Try picturing this scenario: the exterior of the Diji Concept will be able to display messages, images, and what-nots while the interior of the vehicle will feature ambient lighting that can match the "mood of the moment."
Other features of the Diji Concept include a cabin that can accommodate up to three people, a navigation information system that blends with the interior, and a network update function that pretty much allows you to keep all your software systems up to date. The concept also has a "memory" of its own, one that can connect to other vehicles, as well as friends driving nearby.
Talking about a concept that’s built specifically for the future, the Toyota Diji Concept fits all that to a tee. It’s like an extremely smart computer on wheels.
We still have to wait a few more weeks until we finally get to see the production version of the Toyota FT-86 sports car, but more and more details are sneakily surfacing on the internet. The newest tidbit of information comes from the FT86Club and states that Toyota Racing Development (TRD) will offer a pretty aggressive package for the upcoming sports car.
The new package by TRD will supply a new front spoiler, side skirts, a new rear diffuser, a bootlid spoiler, and a new set of 18" aluminum wheels to jazz up the highly anticipated sports model. The interior will also get a few modifications in new sports seats, a new shift knob, a push start switch, and a sports metering system.
As for the performance updates, the recently leaked 2.0-liter flat-four engine will be joined by a full-length adjustable suspension set, a monoblock caliber kit, a new sports exhaust system with two pipes on each side for a racy look, a door stabilizer, tower bar, sports air filter, sports oil filter, and upgraded brakes. These additions may or may not add a performance boost, but the standard engine produces 197 HP at 7,000 rpm and 150 lb-ft of torque at 6,600 rpm, so expect output to be somewhere along the same numbers.

Toyota will launch the third generation Avensis at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show and sales will begin later that year. The 2010 Avensis will be offered in two different body versions: sedan - to be launched first - and station wagon - that will be launched six months after the sedan version. Both version have been already caught testing by the spy photographers.
Although, since the launch of the second generation in 2003, the Avensis won the European Car of the Year award in 2004 and sales were up to 156,000 units, people say Avensis has a wiping design, with no dynamism. But the third generation Avensis will change this aspect. The 2010 model will feature a more dynamic and ascending side line, big head lights curved along the corners and a new grille.
There will also be a panoramic roof in the wagon, basicly a 4-foot glass panel instead of a metal roof. It is rumoured that there will be a Toyota Auris inspired raised gear stick in the Avensis too.
The technical part has never been a problem for Avensis, so Toyota will keep the current engines line-up: both petrol and diesel a, but will also offer a hybrid version starting 2010. As an options, the company will also offer a FWD version.
