2019 Mitsubishi L200 Series 6
When you’re in the market for a new car, a Mitsubishi vehicle is not generally your first choice. However, it does not mean that the Japanese brand is not doing well here in the States. In fact, Mitsubishi actually outsold Land Rover, Mini, and Volvo in 2018. Maybe it is some kind of sorcery, or Mitsubishi has sprayed some sort of invisible ink, we don’t know, but the Japanese giant has managed to move 118,074 cars in 2018 - all of it without socializing at auto-show gatherings or sponsoring many events. But, this is not the case in the U.K. The company is doing pretty well there and even sells a pickup truck called the L200. Mitsubishi has been producing the L200 pickup truck since 1978; under different monikers, though. The company has launched the sixth-generation now and it looks like a well-rounded package. Will the L200 Series 6 be able to hold its “fort(e)” in the highly competitive market?
2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport Landmark Edition
Introduced in 2014 as a replacement for the Freelander, the Land Rover Discovery Sport needs only a few years to become the fastest-selling Land Rover of all time. The crossover’s popularity prompted Land Rover to create a range of special-edition models, the latest of which is called the Landmark Edition and it’s available for the 2018 model year.
Another reason why Land Rover chose the Discovery Sport to be the designated nameplate for special-edition model is because it was also the first model to be built on the company’s 70th birthday on 30 April. The vehicle will thus be used to support a number of projects in 2018, starting with a community resilience project in Scotland. The Landmark Edition adds unique color and trim combinations to the popular crossover, pairing them with a powerful version of the 2.0-liter Ingenium diesel engine. 2018 The Focus RS Heritage Edition is Here to Bid Farewell to the Current Generation
The current-generation Ford Focus RS has enjoyed an eventful life since it was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. But like all good things, the Focus RS’s time in the sun is about to end. Weep not, though, dear friends, because Ford is giving the hot hatch the proper swan song with the release of the Focus RS Heritage Edition. Limited to just 50 units, the Focus RS Heritage doesn’t dabble in the subtleties. It’s got enough goodies and equipment to make even hardened hot hatch fans tremble in excitement. And, if that little tease isn’t enough to persuade you, maybe the hatch’s bright orange exterior will do the trick.
2018 Subaru WRX STI Final Edition
The Subaru WRX Sti has a long, storied history which is part of the reason why Subaru chose to bring a facelift to the car just a few years after the fifth-gen model hit dealers. If you were over in the U.K., on the other hand, you probably felt shafted when the U.S. got to lay eyes on the new WRX – after all, you got stuck with the design that debuted for 2016. Well, as it turns out, the U.K. isn’t getting the facelifted model and, in fact, there won’t be a Subaru STi at all after this year, leaving you just enough time to snag one of these last 150, Final Edition models. And, if you do happen to get your hands on one, well guess what? You actually get the facelifted version that’s on sale in the U.S. right now. That’s right; the “Final Edition” STi in the U.K. is really nothing more than the facelifted model that we received for 2018.
Sounds pretty sketchy, right? Well, it really is, but it’s not exactly Subaru’s fault either. According to various sources, the company that’s responsible for importing the WRX STi has chosen not to import it anymore. It was even up to that company, which goes by the name IM Group, whether or not the final edition models were brought over there. So, while they are the reason why you can’t get a 2018 model (outside of the 150 final editions, anyway) you might want to thank them as they were at least kind enough to import 150 more to give the car a proper send-off. With that said, you probably already know what you’ll get with the Final-Edition STi since it’s already on sale here in the U.S. as a 2018 model, but let’s go over the details just to refresh your memory a bit.

2017 Mini Cooper 1499 GT
It’s a funny thing what a special edition car can do to polish an automaker’s shine. Nobody knows this better than Mini, which has created its fair share of special edition models, including one that it had just announced for the French market: the Mini Blackfriars Edition. Now, it’s doubling down on the SE goodness with yet another offering called the Mini 1499 GT.
In essence, the 1499 GT is not a special edition model that was concocted out of someone’s imagination, but rather, a tribute piece to one of the most iconic Minis to have hit the pavement: the 1971 1275 GT. Most of the functioning 1275 GTs have probably been lost in the sands of time and rust, but the 1499 GT is now here to breathe some life back to the legacy of the legendary hatchback. Between exterior features that pay homage to the classic Mini to suspension tweaks that ensure that it can perform as well as advertised, the new Mini 1499 GT is a stunning example of the best of what Mini can come up. The only downside is that only 1,499 units of the car will be made, and worse, all units will be sold exclusively in the UK market. It’s a bummer, sure, but don’t let dampen your spirits. It’s rare enough to see a special edition tribute car that properly pays homage to the car it’s supposed to be tipping its hats to. It’s even rarer to see one that takes the inspiration to a level that makes people actually reminisce about the classic. The 1499 GT does that, and then some.

2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS Grand Edition
Mercedes-Benz has dropped a new special edition for the 2018 GLS, its three-row SUV. It’s called the Grand Edition, and it brings a swanky new leather treatment to the interior and the choice between two sets of 20-inch alloy wheels. The Grand Edition can be had on the GLS 350d, 400, and 500, but is only offered in Europe. Sorry, Cowboy. Though Joe America can’t have this beast parked in his driveway, more of his cattle will be found inside.
As mentioned, the interior’s new extended leather treatment involves a leather-covered dashboard with real, open-pore wood accents and seats with quilted patterns and a porcelain and espresso color combination only found in the Grand Edition. Outside, those getting the Grand Edition can choose to get the Exterior Package, which includes a slightly more aggressive lower front fascia and AMG-style 20-inch wheels. All Grand Editions come with badges on the front fenders denoting their grandeur.

2017 Caterham Seven SuperSprint
In today’s world where power and technology have become more and more important among automakers, it’s nice to see a company go in the complete opposite direction with a special edition offering that not only has 95 horsepower at its disposal but also packs the technological equivalent of a soapbox racer. This is the Caterham Seven SuperSprint, a special edition version of the retro-static Seven that was created to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the legendary Lotus Seven.
The lightweight, two-seater Seven SuperSprint is about as fitting a tribute as you can have for a car that itself defined itself by the same tenets. The old Lotus Seven was not the most technologically advanced car of its time and neither is the Seven SuperSprint. But that’s not why the Seven SuperSprint is being offered. It’s a callback to the days when 95 horsepower was more than enough to provide a fun, open-air drive, provided that the car itself is as light as a strand of hair. The Seven SuperSprint even looks the part of a 1950’s racer. It features period-specific styling that today’s Caterham still adopts. It even comes with a choice of six different paint finishes with stories of their own, a completely spartan interior that looks to have been frozen in time, and a small three-cylinder engine that has enough power to really make the limited edition retro racer shine in any era. It shouldn’t come as a surprise then that shortly after the SevenSuperSprint made its debut at the Goodwood Revival last week, Caterham made all 60 units available to the public. And as quick as that happened, all 60 units, priced at £29,995 ($40,450) each, sold out in a matter of seven hours.

2017 Honda Civic Type R Black Edition
There’s been a lot of excitement surrounding the new Honda Civic Type R, largely because it’s finally coming to the U.S. But what’s gotten lost in the understandable hype surrounding the new Civic hot hatch is the fact that it isn’t scheduled to hit dealerships at least until the latter half of 2017. For now, the predecessor to the 2017 model is still holding court, or at least just finished doing so since the last of current Civic Type R models has just come off the production line. And like most models that pull at our emotional heart strings, Honda has decided to commemorate the end of the current Civic Type R by launching a special edition version called the Black Edition.
The model is formally known as the Civic Type R Black Edition, but let’s not get into any debates about that. The important thing is that it’s limited to just 100 units and with the how the hot hatch Civic is trending up in the eyes of collectors, it has the potential to be a diamond in the rough and turn into a sought-after car years from now.
For now though, the Civic Type R Black Edition is what it is. It has a number of extra upgrades and features that sets it apart from all other Civic Type Rs that came before it. It also has features the same power and performance credentials, thanks in large part to a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that packs an incredible 310 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, enough to propel it from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds before peaking at a top speed of 167 mph. That kind of performance even took the Civic Type R to the top of lap time records for front-wheel drive cars at the Nurburgring before it was usurped by the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S.
It’s safe to say that the Honda Civic Type R is one of the purest performance cars on the road today. Now it’s getting its own special edition model? Evidently, Honda knows how to end the production of the model on a high note.

2016 Audi Q2 Edition #1
Launched for the 2017 model year, the Q2 is the latest Audi nameplate to hit the market and the company’s smallest crossover yet. Underpinned by Volkswagen’s MQB platform that is shared with the Golf and the Audi TT among other cars, the Q2 was designed by Marc Lichte and shares styling cues with the larger Q3 and Q5 SUVs. Available with a selection of gasoline and diesel four-cylinder engines, the Q2 enables Audi to compete in a new niche. At 4.2 meters (165 inches) long, the Q2 is about the size of the Mini Countryman, which makes it just the second vehicle to join this premium class.
With no competition from Mercedes-Benz and BMW in the foreseeable future, the Q2 will most likely take a significant bite into the Countryman’s sales over the next years thanks to its more rugged design and luxurious interior. With the small crossover having just arrived in dealerships, Audi is launching a limited-edition model to sit at the top of the range. It’s called the Q2 Edition #1 and for the time being it is available in the United Kingdom only.
Essentially an S Line model with additional features, the Edition #1 sports a bespoke paint job and handful of custom interior features. On top of that, it comes with extra standard equipment to justify the more expensive price tag. But, more about that in our short review below.

2016 Mazda2 Red Edition
The fourth-generation Mazda2 arrived in 2014 with a brand-new exterior design and a revamped interior. Like most recent Mazda models, the small hatchback also adopted the brand’s "KODO - Soul of Motion" design language and a more upscale cabin that includes a digital instrument cluster and a leather steering wheel on the more expensive trims. The new generation also brought new engines to the Mazda2. Depending on the market, customers can choose between 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter gasoline engines or a 1.5-liter diesel. All three have four-cylinder configurations and Mazda’s latest SkyActiv technology.
Arguably one of the prettiest cars in its segment, the Mazda2 has become popular in certain European markets, especially in the United Kingdom. As a result, Mazda has already launched the special edition Sport Black in the country. Now, the Japanese are introducing a new limited-edition model. Dubbed Red Edition, it comes with two optional exterior colors at no cost and bespoke accents inside and out. It is based on the SE-L Nav trim and comes with all the goodies available with the pricier model.
The Red Edition is limited to only 400 units and won’t be sold outside Britain. Don’t get your hopes up on finding a special-edition Mazda2 model in the U.S. because the little hatchback is not available Stateside.

There is something about the Volkswagen Scirocco that makes it really desirable, especially after the release of the third-generation model. Of course, this desirability doesn’t do much for those of us here in the U.S., as we’re not privileged enough for it to cross the pond – at least not yet. Even with the debut of the new generation happening just last year, Volkswagen felt it was necessary to extend the desirability of the Scirocco even further with the release of two special-edition models.
As the name implies, the Scirocco Black Edition and Scirocco GT Black Edition, both have a focus on black accenting – a feature that really adds to the appeal of the already sporty sports coupe. Exterior features like the headlights and LED taillights from the standard Scirocco models remain, while the interior still benefits from the auxiliary instrument cluster and Composition Media system.

The 2015 SEMA Show proved to be an exciting event for Mazda MX-5 enthusiasts. We saw the Japanese automaker launch the Speedster and Spyder concepts, which took the sportiness of the fourth-gen Miata to a new level, thanks to their reduced curb weights and bespoke features. Unfortunately, Mazda doesn’t plan to produce either of the two, meaning U.S. customers are stuck with the stock version for the time being.
Not that this is bad news, but many enthusiasts have been clamoring about a more powerful (turbocharged) version or at least a couple of special-edition models.
While that’s not likely to happen in the U.S. at least until 2016, British drivers have already been granted access to a special-edition model. Dubbed Sport Recaro, the model is more of a trim update rather than a stand-alone version, but it comes with plenty of bespoke features and in fewer numbers than usual to qualify for a "limited-edition" badge.
The MX-5 Sport Recaro is based on the range-topping Sport Nav trim, which is already a well-equipped model, but its unique features help it stand out among other Miatas. Furthermore, it’s not as expensive as its limited-edition status suggests, providing more bang for the buck than similar models from other automakers. Find out more about it below.

Diesel has had a hard time catching on in the world. It’s not that it isn’t fantastically efficient, or doesn’t offer stellar performance potential. Ask Gale Banks or Wayne Gerdes (both world record holders in top speed and fuel economy) about diesel’s performance potential. But the simple fact is that frugal isn’t sexy, and sex sells cars. Cars sell on big, loud and stupid awesome as much as anything else — and BMW at least seems to be slowly adapting to that reality.
The 3 Series has long been a Bimmer staple, and diesel models have been favored by those who want BMW chassis dynamics but care more about fuel economy than straight-line performance. The last 320d certainly did provide some of the best of both worlds, but it still wasn’t quite enough to take advantage of the carbon taxation incentives offered in the civilized world. A of couple years ago, BMW upped its efficiency game with the 320 EfficientDynamics package, which used a combination of efficiency refinements to drop the 320d down a tax bracket.
But in spite of saving the average European driver a whopping $87 a month in taxes alone, the 320d ED failed to impress in the sex appeal department. No more, though. As with most of life’s problems, this one proved easy to solve with little more than the addition of a snazzy body kit.

When it comes to muscle cars, the U.S. is arguably home to the greatest machines ever created. It’s here that the muscle car was born in the 1960s and revived decades later at the end of the Malaise Era. The offerings might not be as varied as they were back in the day, but there are quite a few choices from Ford, GM, and Chrysler. The range now even includes a couple of muscle sedans, with the 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat being the most powerful such model to ever come from Detroit. But Europe has its very own Australian muscle in the form of the Vauxhall VXR8 GTS.
Holden-badged muscle cars have caused U.S. enthusiasts a lot of frustration lately, despite GM importing the latest-generation 2010 Holden Commodore with a Chevrolet SS badge. The General said no to the awesome 2013 HSV Gen-F GTS and rejected an El Camino revival based on the Holden Ute and its beefed-up, 2015 HSV GTS Maloo counterpart. Sadly, that’s not going to happen in the future as Holden is about to shut down all Australian manufacturing by 2017.
Meanwhile, gearheads from Down Under will continue to enjoy their Holdens and HSVs, while the British will get to drive around in the Vauxhall VXR8 GTS, a rebadged version of the HSV Gen-F GTS.

It’s not often that we see a small manufacturer such as Caterham launch more than a couple of new models a year, but the Brits have outdone themselves in 2015 by introducing no fewer than three Seven cars. At the same time! Initially announced back in December 2014, the new models come to replace the Roadsport, Superlight, and Supersport models, but the big news here is that Caterham renamed them based on their power-to-weight ratios, resulting in a less confusing naming strategy that will make things a lot more simple for customers, especially those not very familiar with the Caterham brand and its products.
Having already taken a deep dive into the 420 model (not to be confused with the U.S.-spec 480), it’s time to take a closer look at the Seven 270, which replaces the Roadsport 125 and slots between the entry-level 160 and the 360. The 270 brings many updates over its predecessor and benefits from the company’s new equipment packages that turn the sports car into either a daily driver or a more track-focused machine. The Nissan Navara, the global version of the Frontier, is getting a new special edition package with the help of Salomon, a well-known mountain sports brand. The truck builds off the mid-grade Tekna trim level and comes equipped with several unique appearance upgrades both inside and out. Don’t mistake this for a mundane special edition, though, as Nissan is only building 500 examples and will be giving a £250 voucher for Salomon gear, roughly worth $386 at today’s exchange rates.
Salomon edition Navaras are easy to spot thanks to the Salomon logo on the doors, hood and tailgate, along with the chrome door handles, chrome fog light rings, and a chrome accent bar along the front valance.
Nissan is also making the Salomon edition more attractive with the pricing as well. The automaker says it would normally cost more than £1,300 ($2,000) to add the extra options included with the truck, but customers are only getting charged £750 ($1,150) over the Tekna trim level. Sounds like a good deal to me.

The Toyota Hilux is one heck of a truck. Remember the one Top Gear tried destroying by seawater, fire, and ramming stuff? I mean, the truck even has a trim level named after its long-living reputation. Now that trim level gets a slight makeover. Meet the Invincible X – a customized version of the truck’s top trim level.
Only available in the four-door Double Cab powered by the more powerful 3.0-liter diesel, the truck gives customers the upscale looks they want without sacrificing the utility and indestructibility of the standard Toyota Hilux.
The options begin with four different wheel designs, all measuring 17 inches, and continue with the “hi-over” roll bar, step bars, skid plates, bumper guards, and chrome accents. The interior gets its own list of options that include four color choices for the leather seats along with all the available options found on the standard Invincible trim level.

The current 2014 Mazda2 will soon leave us as the fourth generation is ushered in to take its place. But before it goes, UK customers will have a chance to snag a special iteration of the third-gen vehicle, dubbed either the Black Edition or the White Edition, depending on preference of hue. At seven years old, this five-door supermini might be a bit long in the tooth, but that hasn’t stopped the Japanese automaker from gussying it up one last time before putting it away.
The Mazda2 is a car that touts a bit of a double identity, with comfortable commuter and corner slicing, front-wheel-drive performer both making an appearance on its resume, all at an affordable price. It may not be the most exciting vehicle to fly the Mazda badge, but for under $20,000, it gets the job done. We’ve seen this vehicle around in one form or another since 1996, and its tall design was created to maximize space despite somewhat pint-sized exterior dimensions. Between 2007 and 2014, the Mazda2 was available as a three-door hatch, a four-door sedan, or a five-door hatch. Now, Mazda hopes to grab at least a few more five-door lovers with these two new limited production versions.
As the new generation nips at its heels, it might be difficult to rationalize the purchase of the Black and White Edition. However, Mazda is betting on a dash of interior upgrades and unique exterior styling cues to draw in buyers.
