The Bumblebee Camaro finally comes to life

The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro has just been released, and it looks different from its successor. We can debate if it looks better or not, but it does offer a more distinctive appearance than the outgoing model. The front and rear sections are where the most prominent changes can be found, and if you’re a fan of the Transformers movie franchise, you’ll realize that the 2019 Camaro actually owes its appearance to the special edition Camaro Bumblebee that was featured in the fifth installment of the franchise, The Last Knight.

This section is where all the big changes are. A majority of what you see on the front end of the 2019 Camaro is different from the previous model. The headlights are more angular, and the LED strip extends a little further into the middle. The front grille is different, too. Chevrolet did away with the horizontal bars from the last model and incorporated a mesh grille, giving the muscle car a more rugged look. The grille is much bigger, occupying more real estate at the expense of the bumper. Speaking of the bumper, you’ll notice that Chevrolet cut a few pieces from it, removing the one-block look in favor of a more layered look. Whether you like this new design or not is up to you, but I’m in favor of it because it gives the Camaro a little more depth in the surrounding areas.

Now, you can look at the 2019 Camaro and say that it’s an all-new design. But it’s not. We’ve seen this before on a Camaro; it just wasn’t released in the market. Like I mentioned, check out the Bumblebee Camaro from Transformers: The Last Knight and you’ll see that some of the styling elements present in the 2019 model were taken from that model.

The front quarter angle of the 2019 Camaro doesn’t carry as many noticeable changes as the front section. Look closer, though, and you’ll see a few of them. One of the most prominent changes is the distance between the bumper to the ground, which in the 2019 model is higher than the past models. That’s partly due to Chevrolet not designing as bulky of a bumper as it once did, but it can also be attributed to the addition of a more pronounced lip spoiler on the new model. Move your gaze along the side, and you’ll see that the Camaro’s body and character lines remain the same, extending all the way to the back where the muscular shoulders are still there.

Overall, Chevrolet didn’t play too much in changing the profile of the Camaro. That makes sense because past versions of the muscle car were able to successfully translate its physicality into the design. There was no incentive to go away from that route.

Rear Three-Quarter

The biggest change in this section of the Camaro are the taillamps

The biggest change in this section of the Camaro are the taillamps. First, they’re round. Second, they’re more prominent in the overall design of the muscle car’s rear end. The bigger lights also translate to a slightly smaller bumper. This is another subtle design improvement because it frees the 2019 Camaro from looking like the rear bumper swallowed everything within its vicinity. Thank the nice placement of the cuts for that. Not only do they make the bumper look tighter and sharper, they help give the whole section a quality layered look.

Less noticeable is the rear diffuser, which can be had in different forms depending on trim level.
