2011 Volkswagen Golf24

Now that the 2011 installment of the legendary 24 Hours of Nurburgring is upon us, participating automakers are slowly coming out of the woodwork with the presentation of their endurance race cars.

For their part, Volkswagen has developed a high-powered race-spec version of one of its most popular models. Called the Golf24, Volkswagen’s entry to the 24 Hours of Nurburgring will be a four-wheel drive and will carry a 2.5-liter, five-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 440 horsepower and 398 lb/ft of torque mated to a sequential six-speed transmission with paddle shifters.

"With the new Golf24 we are continuing our successful commitment at the Nürburgring 24-hour race," said to Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen.

"The event enjoys huge popularity, is one of the true classics in motorsport and, due to its extreme distance and unique race track, also represents a very big technical challenge."

There’s no doubt the Volkswagen Golf24 will have its hands full at the day-long endurance race this weekend, but if there’s a brand that can steal the show at Nurburgring, we wouldn’t bet against one of the biggest auto brands in the world. The fact that they have a car that poises a threat to its competitors makes them all that more dangerous come race time.

There’s another video of the Golf24 doing some test runs at the ’Ring after the jump.

The most irritating news here is that they were not going to sell this one; they just want you to be excite on this.

Wow! This will be the most aggressive sports car that they will be produced today! smiley Well, the aggressiveness of this car is truly very striking and attractive with it. I just only hope that its engine will be quite good enough at it.

I’m glad that it had an interior harness! Race car like this really needed that safety feature. Anyway, this one, is already looking great on its simple graphic design, and I’m so impressed on its powerful engine output!

Impressive race car! It seems so powerful on its simple appearance and detailing. Too bad, they didn’t put this one on sale, but I would still love to see this in person and watched the race of it. smiley

The idea of showing this in Top Speed is giving people the choice not to buy or buy the car but the bad thing here are they are not selling this one. I wonder why is that, since many people nowadays are longing for race cars.

I would say that this is going to be a good race. However, the car has an awesome performance but the other manufacturers will surely make a great car too.

I think Volkswagen can literally compete with other manufacturer using this Golf24. It’s just frustrating to know that the specs of this car is still unknown.

Well, I think that this one is actually rather promising, with all the features that they have added to this. But the only thing that I think this one lacks is the fact that they are nit selling this to the public.

I would say that this one would definitely a good car, if they could release it as a special edition. ,and people would surely want to grab it for themselves.

Well, I wonder how this one would actually work. I am not really that against the Golf (in fact, I consider it very good. But I don’t know if it would be capable for this one

They haven’t revealed the specs of this one yet, but from the looks of it, it surely has an impressive set. Just hope that it would be enough for a fine performance at the race.

Wow, a race version Golf, that one is really quite nice. I never thought that I would actually one like this, since I always thought of it as more like your average family car.

For a racing car, the Golf have a nice look. However, great styling is not right deal here for the power matters the most. And glad to say, that this car has an impressive performance.

hmm. Why does it named Golf24 when the GTI sticker was printed on its body? However, the performance of this car seems powerful and as expected from the VW!
