New visual option makes the Scirocco R sexier than ever

Despite the whole Dieselgate scandal nonsense that has tarnished Volkswagen’s image, Volkswagen is a pretty likeable brand. The cars are reliable, offer decent performance in most cases, and as long as you don’t have to repair them yourself, they are a pleasure to own. The Scirocco is one of my favorite models in VW’s lineup, and it was refreshed for the 2014 model year. With the refresh, it got 18-inch wheels, a new front end, and a wider look thanks to some strategically placed body lines. The best part is in “R” form this baby comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter and a Haldex all-wheel-drive system.

Now for 2016, VW has announced a new package for the Scirocco R range, called the “Black Style.” The Black Style comes with a number of visual enhancements that gives the Scirocco an empowering appearance that just screams Beauty. In short, the package consists of a colored roof, a new set of wheels, and some new colors that makes the Black Style package the most attractive options for the Scirocco yet.

So with that said, let’s take a better look at the Scirocco R Black Style and see what all it brings to the table.

What makes the Volkswagen Scirocco R "Black Style" special

The most dominate feature of the Scirocco R Black Style is the roof, which comes finished in a shiny, gloss black. This adds to the overall appeal of the car, and ties the whole thing together, matching other parts of the vehicle like the radiator grille mesh and the air dam louvers. Aside from the black roof, the Black Style package also brings a new set of 19-inch “Lugano” alloy wheels that are wrapped in 235/35-series tires. The wheels come complete with wheel locks, extra theft protection, and are painted black to match the roof. The mirror caps also took on the black treatment, giving just the right amount of color contrast to the exterior.

Furthermore, the Scirocco R Black Style package brings a decent list of potential exterior colors to choose from. Topping the list, and shown in the images here, is Pure White. Other colors include Urano Grey, Indium Grey Metallic, Rising Blue Metallic, Pyramid Gold Metallic, Ultra Violet Metallic, and Oryx White mother of pearl effect. And that’s it; there’s nothing else to the Black Style package. No drivetrain modifications or interior enhancements whatsoever. Of course, this is where you probably expect me to express my dissatisfaction with a package that doesn’t bring a whole lot to the table, but that’s not going to happen this time. Why? Well, that’s simple. The Black Style Package will only set you back €660, which is about $754 at current exchange rates.

When you look at what comes in the package, $750 doesn’t sound all that bad at all. Plus, it gives the car a sportier look outside. Sure, it would be nice if there was more to it; maybe some new interior options or a mild powertrain option, but the price is right for what is on offer.

The Scirocco has been around since 1974 when Volkswagen released the first-generation model. The generation ran until 1981 when VW gave the car a whole new redesign. The Scirocco went unchanged until 1992 when the model was finally discontinued. It took VW 16 years, but it eventually released a third-generation for the 2008 model year. The Scirocco R came to be in 2009, and the car went unchanged again until 2014 when VW decided it was time for a refresh. As of the time of this writing, the Scirocco is offered with a number of engines, including a 2.0-liter diesel and a 2.0-liter gasoline engine. Unfortunately, the Scirocco isn’t available in the U.S. The Scirocco currently starts out at £21,040 for the entry-level model, but climbs to as much as £28,500 for the range-topping Scirocco GTS.
