With the Wörthersee gathering just around the corner, the Volkswagen Group is rolling out previews of all sorts of awesome concepts. Today, the German automaker is previewing a concept version of its GTI — dubbed the GTI Performance — that a group of 13 young apprentices developed for the show.
With the Wörthersee event not due to open its gates until May 14th, VW is only giving us a quick glimpse of the hatchback and its distinctive black-and-yellow paint. This leaves us with just a little taste of what these young folks have to offer, but it also leaves us wondering what else they have in store for us.
Luckily, we won’t have to wait much longer to find out how deep VW let these kids dive into the GTI.

The Volkswagen Golf is one of VW’s cornerstone models. I don’t think anybody will dispute that, given the model’s been around for seven generations. The Golf has been and continues to be loved by millions of Volkswagen fans all over the world. You might even say that ABT Sportsline falls into that group. The German tuner’s affection for the Golf is well documented, so it comes as no surprise that ABT has once again turned its attention to the Golf.
Actually, the Golf R is the subject of ABT Sportsline’s latest program. You all know what that means, right? Expect plenty of power under that hood. In the interest of full disclosure, ABT did not disappoint. The program also has the traditional aerodynamic upgrades, as well as a new set of wheels.

There’s a reason why ABT Sportsline is one of our favorite auto tuners in the world. The German company knows how to make programs that improve the cars they work on without going overboard with the modifications. It takes a specific set of skills to do that and ABT has it down path. Its new program for the Volkswagen Scirocco is living proof of that.
The two-fold modification is made up of an extensive aero kit and an impressive performance bump that breathes new life to the Scirocco. That’s not an easy thing to pull off and yet ABT Sportsline does with the ease of a tuner that knows what it’s doing.
Other tuners may promise the same things and yet fail to live up to all the expectations they set. That’s never been the case with ABT Sportsline. Over the years, it’s produced one impressive program after another. And as long as it can build kits like this for the Volkswagen Scirocco, there’s no reason for us to start doubting their tuning capabilities.
Not that we ever did because if we haven’t said it enough, we’ll say it again.

By most accounts, the A5 Volkswagen Beetle is a very good car. It retains the iconic Beetle look of previous generations, but visually, it’s been updated, tweaked, nipped, and tucked to give it a more modern, even somewhat masculine, appearance. Under the skin, it’s built on a very capable platform that’s shared with the Jetta and the Golf. It might not be your cup of tea, and especially in its convertible form, it may be hard to get past the cultural stigma that the Beetle is a car for teenage girls, but if anyone can break the Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet of its feminine image, it’s ABT.
ABT Sportsline, the mostly-Audi and Volkswagen tuner out of Germany, now offers its complete package for the Beetle Cabriolet. If you want a more aggressive look, the company can give you that. If you want an upgraded suspension, it can give you that. Best of all though, if you want more power from they engine, the tuner can give you that too. Put it all together, and you might even have a drop-top GTI-killer.

The Volkswagen Golf Mk VII is one of our favorite sports hatchbacks for a reason. it’s combination of sporty styling and aggressive performance capabilities has made into one of the finest hot hatches on the market. But even with what it already has, there’s always room for improvement. That’s where MTM comes into the picture with its new program for the Golf R Mk VII that makes it even more maddening out on the road.
MTM is one of Germany’s finest tuners with a specific touch of expertise on Volkswagen models. So, when the company announces that it has a new Golf R 4Motion program to share, we take notice. After all, when you have a pocket rocket like the Golf with 300 ponies already under its hood, you’re interested to see what kind of magic MTM can work.
The result is pretty incredible. Using its famed M-Cantronic module, MTM was able to turn an already powerful sports hatch into a truly mind-blowing thrill ride, improving the hatchback’s output to a tidy 360 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque — 64 horsepower and 52 pound-feet more than the base Golf R. MTM claims a 0-to-62-mph time of 4.2 seconds with the DSG transmission, which is a huge drop from its stock 4.9-second sprint time. Top speed remains unchanged at 155 mph.
What’s more, this kit takes just 90 minutes to install and will only set you back €2,055 ($2,842) installed.

The Volkswagen Golf doesn’t carry nearly the same amount of cache as more powerful hatchbacks do, but when it comes to sports hatchbacks, you’ll find it difficult to name another one that’s as beloved by aftermarket company’s than the Golf.
As it is, the Golf’s reputation as a sports car trapped in a hatchback body has made it a tuning favorite, and the latest one to profess its admiration for the VW is Caractere, which is no stranger to working on Volkswagens.
The program is made up of both aesthetic and mechanical upgrades with Caractere working really hard to build a new aero kit that gives the Golf a more dynamic look and feel. The kit includes a new front lip spoiler, revised side skirts, a rear diffuser, a stainless-steel sports exhaust system and a new set of 18- or 19-inch CW1 light alloys. These five new elements play equally important roles on improving the Golf’s look, while also addressing the need for more performance balance brought about by the comprehensive engine tune the company gave it.
Speaking of the performance upgrades, Caractere offers a comprehensive program list that covers the full breadth of Golf trim models, beginning with the 1.6 TDI, which saw its output jump from 90 horsepower to 110 horsepower all the way to the most powerful Golf in the fold — the 2.0 TFSI — which increased its output from 270 horsepower all the way up to 310 horsepower.
It’s not the most mind-blowing Golf project we’ve seen, but in terms of overall likeness and authenticity, Caractere’s program for Volkswagen’s resident sports hatch gets high marks from us.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI is now on its seventh generation so with the car having been around that long, an assumption can be made that Volkswagen must be doing something right.
But even with the Golf’s popularity, the sports hatch could still use some extra lovin’, and that attention is being given in kind by BBM Motorsport. Known for its Volkswagen programs, BBM’s fascination for VW models is on display with its latest program for the seventh-generation Golf.
The program was made for the Golf GTI Performance, which already boasts an impressive 230 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque in its standard guise. Seems like a modicum amount of output, right?
Not according to BBM, as it gave the Golf’s four-banger some extra goodies, including a new carbon intake kit and new custom down pipes with sports cats, to go with a modified electronics system. With these changes in tow, the Golf GTI Performance now boasts an output of 300 horsepower at 6,100 to 6,700 rpm and 324 pound-feet of torque at 2,150 to 4,750 rpm, sizable increases for Volkswagen’s resident sports hatch.
And just to give the Golf GTI Performance’s program more substance, BBM Motorsports also added a red wrap from SFT Carwrap Ibbenbueren, a set of 19-inch BBS wheels, a Supersprint bespoke exhaust system with 100 mm (3.94-inch) pipes, a Stoptech braking system with 328-by-25 mm (12.9-by-0.98-inch) rotors and four-piston calipers, and a KW suspension system that’s electronically adjustable between 20 to 55 mm (0.79 to 2.2 inches). They don’t sound like fancy upgrades, but you can’t underestimate their importance in making this program as well-rounded as it can be.

Who knew a special-edition Volkswagen would be a popular car for aftermarket programs. Somehow, though, the Polo R WRC has managed to attract not just one tuner, but two.
A few days ago, we showed you a program that came from B&B. Today, it’s ABT Sportsline’s turn, and while not exactly as comprehensive as what B&B did, ABT Sportsline’s take on the Polo R WRC is no less impressive, especially in the way it was able to take advantage of the sports hatch’s already impressive setup and fine-tune it without completely going overboard.
A new set of 18-inch, DR alloy wheels are prominently added to the sports hatch while the interior gets a few noticeable upgrades as well.
ABT Sportsline badging was also added to the grille and rear, enhancing the appeal of the Polo R WRC by ensuring people know that a real tuner worked on this bad boy.
The tuner hasn’t announced any performance upgrades to the vehicle, but safe to say, the 290-horsepower output coming out of its 1.6-liter, TSI engine is enough to enjoy the aesthetic and performance spoils of the Polo R WRC.

The 2013 Essen Motor Show is just around the corner and it looks like ABT Sportsline is ready to impress the world with all its upgrades specially developed for the German tuning show. One of the packages it developed for Essen is based on the seventh generation Golf GTI and tries to discover the dark side of the car.
In order to do so, the 2.0 liter engine was updated with an ABT Power kit that increases the final output to a total of 300 horsepower - up from the standard 220 horsepower. As a result the GTI now goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds and up to a top speed of 160 mph.
The car rides on new 20-inch alloy wheels combined with new sport stabilizers and an ABT height adjustable suspension kit.

Limited-run vehicles always grab the attention of customers and even more so when one of these models are given a comprehensive aftermarket upgrade.
That’s the case with the Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street, a car that VW built to celebrate its return to WRC. But even with that, B&B decided that the car wasn’t special enough. So what does it do?
Well, it made it even more special, that’s what!
This the German pocket rocket already has enough stylish and mechanical digs to make consumers weep, but B&B opted to make it extra special, adding a host of upgrades to improve the car’s handling requirements. As such, the Polo R WRC Street now has a coilover kit, sports springs, stabilizers a high-performance braking system with four- or six-piston calipers and a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 225/35R18 tires.
But the real treat of this program is the comprehensive performance upgrade, highlighted by a Stage 3 kit that includes the installation of a bespoke high-pressure fuel pump and a sports exhaust system to go with a modified air suction system, a new high-performance intercooler and a different oil-cooling system. All told, B&B was able to bump up the output of the Polo R WRC Street from the standard 217 horsepower and 258 pound-feet torque output all the way up to a tidy 362 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque.
With those changes, this German spitfire is now capable of hitting 62 mph in just 5.2 seconds, a full 1.2 seconds faster than the ’standard’ model, to go with a top speed of 168 mph, up from 151 mph.

You may recall the Golf VI GTI Razor 6 that RevoZport revealed to the world back in 2010? As its name suggests it was based on the Golf GTI VI, and it was all about bumping the engine’s total output.
With Volkswagen revealing the seventh-generation Golf GTI, RevoZport came with a new tuning kit, this time called of course Razor 7.
For the first time, the GTI is offered with two different level of power. As standard, the GTI’s 2.0-liter, turbocharged engine delivers either 220, but you can bump that to 230 horsepower with the Performance model. We think that even VW can admit that those numbers aren’t necessarily overwhelming.
This is where RevoZport comes into focus. It updated the turbocharged engine with an ECU remap, a new induction system and a titanium exhaust that weight just 22 pounds — 50 percent less than the stock version. This increases the 2.0-liter engine’s total output to 290 horsepower, which is much better suited for a hot hatchback like the GTI.

While we are all waiting for the 2014 Golf R to hit the market, the German tuner ALPHA-N Performance decided to offer a few tricks for the current model.
The base Golf R is powered by a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 270 horsepower. That’s a pretty hefty number for a four-banger, but that’s not the best it can can do.
ALPHA-N Performance updated the Golf R with a new EVOMS sports air filter system and a new, stainless-steel exhaust system that considerably improves the sound of the turbocharged engine. All these changes, combined with a new EVOX systems chip tuning box, jump the total output to 330 horsepower - an increase of 60 horsepower over the base version.
All this power is transferred to the asphalt through all four wheels via the standard DSG gearbox.
