The Volkswagen Jetta GLI arrived for the first time on the North American market in 1984, and to celebrate its 30th anniversary, the company announced today the special edition Edition 30. The model will be offered in two trim levels: Edition 30 and Edition 30 with Navigation, and will be put on sale in early 2014.
When compared to a base Jetta GLI, the new Edition 30 version will be distinguished by a red trim on the front grille, a trunk lid-mounted spoiler, "Edition 30" badges and a set of 18-inch, “Laguna” aluminum-alloy wheels. Buyers can order the Jetta GLI Edition 30 in just in four exterior colors: Deep Black Metallic, Pure White, Tornado Red and Reflex Silver Metallic.
The interior will be distinguished from normal Jetta GLIs by V-Tex leatherette seats with contrasting red accents, a new steering wheel with the same red contrast stitching. There will also be carbon-look trim inlays; "Edition 30" kickplates and floormats with red stitching.
Depending on the trim level, the new GLI Edition 30 offers as standard feature: leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, Premium VIII touchscreen radio with SiriusXM Satellite Radio or RNS 315 touchscreen navigation system.

The seventh generation Volkswagen Golf GTI has been initially previewed by a very cool Golf VII GTI Concept unveiled in 2012 at the Paris Auto Show, but now is time to finally see the production version at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
The seventh generation Golf GTI brings some major updates for the model: next to exterior and interior updates, the new GTI is being offered for the first time in two different power levels: a standard GTI and a Performance version that increases the final output by 10 horsepower. Also, despite being more powerful than the previous generation, the new GTI is also more fuel efficient: an improvement of about 18%.
On the German market the seventh generation Golf GTI will be priced at 28,350 euro - about $37,00 at the current exchange rates.

Volkswagen is already offering a Convertible and a GTI Convertible for their Golf line, so it would be ridiculous not to apply the same treatment to the most powerful model in the Golf line-up: the R version. The model is expected to make its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, but Volkswagen already offered the first details on the model.
The new Golf R Convertible has been described as "the first-ever open-top R model and the fastest-ever production open-top Golf," and it pretty much offers the same features as the hatchback version. The difference will be of course its fully electric insulated hood that can be lowered in 9.5 seconds and raised in 11 seconds at speed up to 18 mph.

At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen unveiled the Cross Up concept as a preview for the 5-door version of the Up. One year later, Vee-Dub-Ya is testing the production version of the Cross Up and our spy photographers managed to catch one in action without camouflage. To make things even more official, the prototype even has the Cross Up stickers on the rear doors – at least VW didn’t try to put pasties on a prototype this time around. This will be the fourth model in the Cross lineup, which includes the CrossPolo, CrossGolf and CrossTouran.
From these spy shots it looks like the production version will stay faithful to the concept car, with just the door strip being changed. Also, when compared to the standard Up, the Cross Up version will receive different bumpers, wider fenders, underbody protection and alloy wheels. Under the hood, we will most likely see the same engine lineup found in the Up.
We expect to see the Cross Up unveiled during the first half of 2013.
We have already seen the standard Volkswagen Golf VII and now Volkswagen is further expanding the lineup with the addition of the new generation Golf Variant. The station wagon version is enjoying a great success on the European market so is no wonder why the seventh generation brings significant updates.
When compared to the model it replaces, the new Golf Variant is about 105 kg (232 lbs) lighter, but in the same time it has grown in sizes and offers increased cargo area.
Also, as a first for the station wagon model, the seventh generation Golf Variant is being offered in an extremely fuel-efficient TDI BlueMotion version that delivers a combined fuel consumption of just 3.3 l/100 km (71.3 mpg). All the other engines and transmissions have been carried over from the hatchback version.

Before the 2013 model year, the top trim level of the Passat in the UK was the SE trim, which was relatively decked out, but lacked some of the extras that most premium sedans came with. In 2013, VW plans to change that by offering up a replacement for the outgoing SE trim level, the Passat Highline. Not only does the “Highline” name sound more luxurious than “SE,” but it also boasts an array of standard features that the SE did not.
This new addition affects both the Passat Saloon and the Passat Estate, which are a sedan and wagon, respectively. This gives the Passat lineup three trim levels in each body style, starting with the base-level S, the mid-grade BlueMotion, and capping off with the Highline. The real test is whether the additions to the top-level trim on the Passat really warrant the price the VW will place on it.

Wow, VW hit SEMA really hard this year, especially with the Beetle. Pretty much every model of Beetle that was heading to SEMA – Rotiform Beetle, Beach-Battle Cruiser Beetle, and the Super Beetle – were all readily available with images, but the Chopped Beetle by Gaplin Auto Sports was not, for some reason.
Well, GAS has just released an image of this chop-top Beetle and some extra information. It is based on the 2013 VW Beetle Turbo, which means it features a 200-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and a 6-speed transmission. There’s no mention of any additions to the engine, so we assume that it remains bone stock.
On the outside, GAS doused it with an Onyx Black base coat and accented the sides with Candy Apple Red metal-flake paint, giving it an awesome look. GAS then took to the top of the Beetle, hacking 5.5 inches off of the A-pillar and 2.5 inches off of the B-pillar, giving it that classic chop-top look, while retaining the classic humped roofline.
Adding to its bespoke look, GAS deleted the rear windows and added in rear air scoops in their place. If you have seen rodded beetles that retain their rear-mounted engines, this is a very common modification to get a little more airflow to the engine. Given this is a front-mounted engine, it’s just there for show.
Adding to its style is a set of 20-inch, 3-piece Forgiattos handmade rims. GAS them topped off the outside by adding tint to the headlights and taillights, giving this already sinister- and vintage-looking Beetle a little more darkness.
On the inside, the vintage treatment continued, as GAS tossed in vintage-style black leather that features red accent stitching. The headliner is dyed to match the vintage cow hide on the rest of the interior. Wrapping the inside and outside together, GAS painted the interior trim panels and dashboard with the same Candy Apple Red metal flake that sets off the exterior. We are still awaiting images of the interior and we will get them to you ASAP.
Overall, we think this was well worth the delay in getting the images, we just wish it had a little something extra under the hood.
Volkswagen has been really busy with its compact European hatchback, the Polo, as of late. First Vee-Dub released the Polo R-Line, then it teased us with the Polo WRC Street, and the latest was the high-performance Polo R. As per usual, none of those models are making it to the U.S. – sigh – but our U.K. friends get to tell us all about them.
VW is at it again by giving our Euro readers yet another version of the Polo to whip around. This time, however, this one is a hybrid of sorts. No, not an electric-gas hybrid, but rather a nice mixture of performance and fuel economy – kinda like eating fat- and sugar-free ice cream, but it still actually tastes like ice cream.
So how tasty is this Ben and Jerry’s sans the fat and sugar? Does it still have the tasty peanut butter-filled pretzels and chucks of chocolate in it, or is more like what you really get when you buy “healthy” ice cream: tasteless frozen skim milk with chunks of strange, chewy mess obviously sweetened with saccharine?

With the new generation Golf already on the market, Volkswagen is undoubtedly finishing up the execution of the rest of the model’s variants. We’ve already seen the GTI version get previewed by the concept car at the 2012 Paris Auto Show, so now it’s time to check out what the new convertible will look like.
The Volkswagen Golf Convertible will be among the latest variants to be added to the new generation Golf line-up. It will feature the same design elements launched with the standard Golf VII, but will retain the usual soft top seen in the previous generation Golf Cabriolet.
Under the hood, the convertible version will keep the same engine line-up as the hatchback version. This means customers will have the possibility to choose between four engines: two petrol - a 85 HP 1.2-liter TSI and a 140 HP 1.4-liter TSI - and two diesel - a 105 HP 1.6-liter unit and a 150 HP 2.0-liter unit.
Expect the seventh generation Volkswagen Golf Cabrio to be launched sometime in 2014.
We saw the first rendition of the Golf BlueMotion Concept about five years ago and it was impressive, boasting a 62.8 mph rating and emitting just 119 grams of CO2 per km. We then got a look at the second-gen model in 2009 with its 74.3 mpg and 99 g/km of CO2. Here we are at the 2012 Paris Auto Show and Volkswagen has the third generation BlueMotion Golf ready to show off.
Volkswagen really has something to prove in the mpg department, as it is one of only a handful of automakers available in the U.S. that has openly protested the new CAFÉ standards. VW has attempted to make it clear that its reasoning behind protecting the standards is not because it doesn’t want to build fuel-efficient vehicles, but rather because it feels the yearly improvement numbers are skewed to making it easier on American car and truck manufacturers.
Well, here stands a chance for VW to truly prove that it is all in on saving us money at the pump. So let’s have a look at what Vee-dub-ya has served up.

This year’s Paris Auto Show will feature the seventh generation Volkswagen Golf, but we’ve long known what that will look like, so we’re eagerly waiting for its GTI version to be let out. Unfortunately, the Paris Auto Show will only bring us a concept version of the GTI, so we created rendering for the production version in an attempt to help us all get a better idea as to what it will look like. Let’s face it, the concept version always comes out looking stellar with a ton of technological goodies and the production model is always less appealing.
Rumors suggest that the production version Golf GTI will be powered by an updated version of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that will deliver about 260 HP. With the extra 60 HP, the next GTI will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds and will be capable of hitting a top speed of 153mph.
The official debut of the Volkswagen Golf VII GTI will be made at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
With the Paris Auto Show quickly approaching, we are awaiting the release of the GTI version of the Golf Mk VII. Unfortunately, VW has been pretty stingy with its information on the upcoming GTI trim, but the sneakiness that is the Internet, has picked up on some images and information on the upcoming Golf VII GTI Concept that is reportedly a near-production version.
We have already received just about all of the information available on the 2013 Golf Mk VII, but this sports edition is one that tuners everywhere seek out. The outgoing GTI is peppy enough, boasting a 200-horsepower, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that rips off a 0-to-60 sprint in just 7.3 seconds. While that’s no Ferrari, it is pretty sweet for a hatchback that gets 33 mpg on the highway.
With the performance and stylish appearance that the 2013 Golf VII GTI offers up, can VW really do anything to make this compact hatch even more desirable?

We’ve seen spy shots for the upcoming Volkswagen Golf R that range from completely camouflaged to almost entirely devoid of cammo, but we though it was high time to see the final product. Unfortunately, Volkswagen is just not ready to show it to us so we decided to take matters into our own hands by coming up with a rendering for the future Golf R.
The next generation Golf R will be distinguished by a different front bumper with larger air intakes, a pair of subtly flared side skirts, gloss black exterior mirrors, and new quad exhaust pipes, as well as a new set of wheels.
Under the hood, Volkswagen has placed a revised version of the current 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder, with an output that has been increased to a little more than the current 256 HP. The engine will be mated to a DSG or a 6-speed transmission, and power will run through a Haldex all-wheel-drive system.

There has been much speculation in the automotive world about VW looking into buying Proton from DRB-Hicom, and later came the announcement that VW’s labor group would not support additional acquisitions. It looks like - at least the smoke and mirrors make it look like - VW is done buying any more projects for the foreseeable future.
This all comes thanks to a report from Bloomberg, through Handelsblatt, that VW’s CEO, Marin Winterkorn, has said “We have enough to do at the moment in taking our twelve brands to where we want to be” in response to the company possibly buying Proton. He also said “We need to grow in Southeast Asia,” then followed that up with “but that does not mean that we will buy Malaysia’s Proton, like some are speculating.”
In the world of automobile acquisitions, you can always take a CEO’s words with a grain of salt, as they are saying what is true at any given second. At the drop of a hat, that truth can suddenly change, especially if DRB-Hicom decides to offer up Proton at a bargain price. Add in the fact that VW has been very shady with its business tactics lately – avoiding the tax man and sneaking Ducati under Lamborghini’s umbrella to help it meet mpg standards – and you can see why we don’t believe a word of what Winterkorn says.
VW will say what it needs to say in order to keep its labor group happy, but ultimately it is in the automobile manufacturing game to make money. If Proton and/or Lotus are seen as potential profit, VW will tell the labor group to suck it up, as they ink a deal for the Malaysian automotive group.
We’ll keep a close eye on this whole situation and see if VW stays true to it word or reverses ship if Proton falls in its lap.
The new generation Volkswagen Golf VII was scheduled to do the debut strip tease at the end of September at the 2012 Paris Auto Show, but it looks like the company has decided to offer a few details on the new Golf early. We’ve got a few snippets already, but Volkswagen is also planning on unveiling more on September 4th.
The first details on the Golf VII reveal that it will be built on the company’s MQB platform and will be about 220 lbs lighter than the current model. Volkswagen will also work on making the model more spacious, safer, and more comfortable.
Under the hood, Volkswagen will place a choice of both petrol and diesel engines, including a new 1.4 liter TSI with 140 HP and a new TDI with 105 HP. All engines will get a 23% reduction in fuel consumption.
Next to these updates, the new Golf VII will offer an impressive list of features, including a proactive occupant protection system, standard XDS electronic differential lock, ACC adaptive cruise control plus Front Assist and a City Emergency Braking function, among many others.
While the standard Golf R is still covered from head to tail in dizzying cammo, the Convertible version of the speedy hatchback is now stripped down to reveal its R logo goodies at the front and back. This just proves that the cammoed Golf we saw a few weeks back was indeed the "R" in GTI clothing.
With the uncovered goodness that are these spy shots, we can see that the front bumper of the Golf R will have LED daydriving lights, bigger brakes and wheels, more marked side sills, and a small spoiler on the trunk. The rounded GTI exhaust pipes have also been removed to reveal the bigger oval-shaped pipes that will be used for the Golf R.
Power for the 2013 Volkswagen Golf Convertible R will come from a revised version of the 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder found in the current model. This engine produces 256 HP in the US version and 270 HP in the European model. That engine will be mated to a DSG or a 6-speed transmission, which will push power to all four wheels.
We’ve been patiently awaiting details on the new 2014 VW Golf R and in the process, we’ve caught it testing many times. While the looks of the new Golf R were really no mystery, what it would carry under its hood was still up for a little speculation, though most of us had it pegged as a 300-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-pot.
The mystery is now over, as Volkswagen has chosen to reveal a large amount of the details on the 2014 Golf R just before its world debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Surprisingly, we are even more impressed than we thought we would be, as the new Golf R is not only more powerful and much faster, but it is also 18 percent more effective than last year’s model.
This all-new Golf R is definitely well set to do battle with other hot hatches, like the 2014 Focus ST and the 2014 Mazdaspeed3.

We’ve already captured the seventh generation Volkswagen Golf during some of its testing a few months ago, but now we have finally been able to catch the GTI version during its turn on the Nurburgring.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI has been built on the company’s new MQB platform. Compared to the current GTI, the next generation will be longer and lower, but its design will pretty much remain the same. The prototype seen in these images are covered in camouflage, but through the gaps of the coverings we can see that it has received real front lights and door mounted mirrors (the current Golf GTI’s mirrors are mounted at the side window).
Under the hood, there is a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder that will deliver up to 260 HP - an increase of 60 HP over the current generation (if the current rumors turn out to be true).
Expect to see the new Volkswagen Golf GTI launched sometime in 2013, most likely at the Geneva Motor Show.
We have seen many automotive pranks in our time, but the following one definitely tops the list for ingenuity, skill, and creativity. It is unlikely to be topped in the near future, just because it is so impressive.
Volkswagen is unquestionably one of the world’s biggest companies with it owning a fairly large selection of other brands including Bugatti, Bentley, Seat, and even Lamborghini, so it obviously takes some creativity to get an upper hand over the competition. Fiat definitely did just that the other day, when they took the opportunity to take advantage of one of the numerous Google Street View vans driving across the globe, and capture something completely unique.
Both Volkswagen and Fiat have headquarters in Sweden and when workers at the Fiat HQ noticed the Google Street View car driving past, they rushed over to their competitor’s major branch in a brand new Fiat 500, 45 minutes away to capture the perfectly executed images you see in the gallery below.
The bright red Fiat 500 can be seen following the Street View car from a distance just seconds away from Volkswagen headquarters before speeding up Volkswagen’s driveway, pulling up in directly below the Volkswagen sign just in time for the images to be captured and then uploaded to Google Street View for the world to see.
And all of this happened in just a matter a seconds without VW having any idea about the stunt, meaning the German marque will have to accept having one of its competitors cars parked outside its showroom for at least a year.
Don’t however, expect VW to take this lightly. We suspect they’re already planning an ingenious way to get back at Fiat.
CFC StylingStation, based in Neuss, Germany, has once again offered a tuning package for the Volkswagen Golf VI GTI. The once vinyl body specialists branched out in 2010 and tried their tuning skills on the 2010 Volkswagen Golf GTI, and now they’ve outdone themselves with the 2012 Volkswagen Golf GTI package. They call the finished product the Leitgolf. For 22,900 Euro, or about $30,000 USD, CFC StylingStation will not only upgrade the performance, but will also totally change the look of your 2012 Golf GTI.
After adding a Kerscher front bumper and widening the fenders by 2.5 cm, CFC gets to their area of expertise and wraps the body with matte grey vinyl. The Leitgolf’s roof gets high gloss carbon fiber vinyl, while the emblems, passenger’s side front fender, fuel door, and the inner part of the front bumper grille get covered with an awesome looking comic book style collage that CFC calls "Sticker Bombing." Vinyl lettering on the rear passenger glass simply reads "I Love Haters." CFC then adds a carbon fiber kit that includes a front lip spoiler, side sills, mirror caps, rear diffuser, and an engine cover.

MR Car Design, in collaboration with BTS-Racing, has released a new aftermarket tuning package for the Volkswagen Golf V R32, which was produced from 2005 to 2008. The package starts with a R32 HPG turbo kit and a 3-inch sport exhaust system with valve control. After performance tuning, the Golf’s 3.2L engine makes a whopping 458 horsepower and 405 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s an amazing increase of over 210 horsepower and over 165 lb.-ft. of torque. To handle all that extra power, the tuning companies reinforced the DSG transmission.
The tuning doesn’t stop there. With the package, The Golf V also receives a KW Clubsport suspension kit, H&R stabilizers, and a Stoptech brake package. All the old bushings are replaced with Superpro bushings. The matte blue VW MR Car Design used to highlight their performance parts got fitted with 19-inch OZ Ultraleggera HLT matte alloy wheels wrapped in 225/35/ZR19 high performance tires.

The model was caught testing in its three-door version, but as you can see, it wears the same camouflage as the previous mule spied.
The future Golf VII will be built on Volkswagen’s new "Modularer Querbaukasten" MQB platform - that will be seen for the first time next month in the new generation Audi A3 when it debuts in Geneva. This new platform will make the model longer and wider, as well as about 100 lbs lighter than the current generation. Volkswagen will try to keep the Golf formula intact, but there will be changes made to the car’s design, on both the exterior and interior.
It has been rumored that the new Golf VII will be offered with a new range of engines, more powerful and more fuel efficient. Volkswagen will also be offering a plug-in hybrid with 246 HP capable of more than 50 mpg.
