2021 Volvo S90
The Volvo S90 is scheduled to receive a mid-cycle revamp that’s expected to debut in 2020 for the 2021 model year. Once Volvo finally applies the finishing touches on the facelifted model, the S90 will feature mainly visual changes on the outside, but the Swedish firm might also tweak the sedan’s infotainment system to keep up with its rivals, and it may even introduce the mild-hybrid powertrain brought by the freshly-revised XC90.
A big question mark for now is how (and if) the S90’s interior will change. Volvo’s prowess for nicely laid out cabins that are also comfortable and high-quality suggests the carmaker won’t fiddle too much with an already perfect recipe.
2020 Volvo XC40 Recharge
Mazda has the MX-30. Volkswagen has the ID.3, and the ID.4 is almost done brewing. Porsche has the Taycan. Mercedes-Benz has the EQC and Audi the e-tron. BMW had the i3 and is now cooking the i4, while Jaguar relies on the I-Pace, so Volvo couldn’t just sit around and watch the competition get ahead. So there it is, the Swedish carmaker’s first-ever electric car, which opens the avenue for a downfall of EVs grouped under the Recharge moniker. 2020 Volvo V90
Even though they are arguably the most practical vehicles you can buy, wagons were never really considered to be an enthusiast’s first choice. Things are so bad in the States that automakers started retracting their wagons from here and focused on the European markets instead, where they were greeted with open arms. However, times are changing now. Volvo has been renovating the 90 series, and now it’s the V90’s turn. The current V90 is already about three years old and it has started to look dated (blame the Cross Country models to an extent for this). The new V90 does not look radically different from the current model, but the automaker did hide the subtle changes it brings in on the bumpers and fog lamps.
2020 Volvo XC90
The 2020 Volvo XC90 is an updated version of the second-generation SUV. Unveiled in 2019, it features a mild exterior upgrade and adds new technology inside the cabin. The Swedish SUV carries over with the same engines, but it now includes an energy recovery braking system that enhances fuel economy. Additional safety equipment rounds out the XC90’s mid-cycle facelift, which keeps the crossover competitive against vehicles like the BMW X3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class.

Uber Moves to Resume Autonomous Testing on Public Roads
Uber wants to resume testing of its autonomous vehicle systems eight months after a Volvo SUV, part of the Uber test program struck and killed a pedestrian in Arizona. Now, Uber wants to kick off testing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and hopes to regain public trust.
Back in March, a Volvo XC90 SUV equipped with Uber’s self-driving systems hit a pedestrian who was crossing a street at night in Tempe, Arizona. Although the person was hit away from a crosswalk, Arizona officials quickly suspended Uber’s permits that allowed it to test the new technology on public roads in the aftermath of the incident.
Now, Uber has released a detailed safety report to showcase the lengths it will go to to ensure that future testing of the autonomous technology will be carried out safely. The company stated that it carefully analyzed what went wrong and that it has improved the onboard systems and now wants to resume testing in Pennsylvania.
2019 BMW X7 vs 2019 Volvo XC90
The BMW X7’s arrival adds another worthy challenger to what is becoming a crowded mid-size luxury SUV market. The X7 joins other established models like the Mercedes GLE-Class, Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7, and the model that it’s being compared to here: the Volvo XC90. It’s been a while since BMW and Volvo are talked about in equal terms. That’s a credit to the incredible gains Volvo has achieved in re-establishing its place in the luxury vehicle segment. The BMW X7 arrives just in time to compete with the XC90, so it’s reasonable to compare to the two to determine which of these two SUVs has the edge over the other.
2019 Volvo V60 Cross Country
The V60 Cross Country is the raised version of the company’s familiar V60 wagon. Redesigned in 2018, the V60 Cross Country bridges the gap between the V60 and the XC60. It’s not as big as the latter, but it adds some off-road capability on top of the V60’s wagon-style utility.
Unveiled only a few months after the S60 sedan and V60 wagon, the V60 Cross Country comes to the U.S. to take on the Audi A4 Allroad. Sure, it will be sold in Europe as well, but wagons are a much bigger deal in North America where most of them have been replaced by crossovers. It will be an interesting battle as the V60 is now more upscale than ever and its tech package is on par, or even above in some departments, with what the Germans have to offer. 2019 Volvo V60 R-Design
Volvo brings the R-Design treatment to its latest V60 Wagon. It will be the top-tier trim for the V60, and it will enhance the car’s performance as well. A sportier exterior look is part of the deal, and it’s available for all the engines in the lineup.
The R-Design, where "R" stands for "Refined," is Volvo’s range-topping performance trim, with the first Volvo that benefitted from this treatment dating back 23 years. It comes as no surprise that the V60 will be available, for the 2019 model year, with the R-Design package that adds improved suspension to make sense of the sporty, yet conservative, exterior. The base price for the Volvo V60 R is $46,558.

Pricing for the Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered is Far From What You’d Expect
The U.S.-built Volvo S60 was launched last week, and the automaker has already announced that the top-of-the-line hybrid version, the S60 T8 Polestar Engineered, will be available from June 28. But, there’s a catch – only 20 of these will be available, and only by subscription through Care by Volvo. Customers who have enrolled in Care by Volvo can make a monthly payment of $1100, before taxes and registration fees, for the S60 T8 Polestar Engineered. These monthly payments cover insurance, service, and maintenance of the car.
Comparison: 2019 Volvo S60 vs BMW 3 Series
After years of struggle to make a stand in the premium market, the S60 finally has a shot against the leading nameplates in this niche: the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and the Audi A4. We’ve already compared the S60 to the Merc, so now it’s time to pit it against the 3 Series, the vehicle that has set the benchmark in this segment for many years.
Purchased by Geely in 2009, Volvo was subject to a makeover in recent years that saw most of its important models redesigned from the ground up and all engines that weren’t four-cylinders discontinued. The Swedish firm also developed a hybrid drivetrain under Chinese ownership. The first vehicle to sport all these novelties, the XC90, entered production in 2014, but the design and tech expanded to include the S90 and XC40 too. Commenting on Volvo’s future plans, he presented an interesting vision - “Our Vision is that by 2020, nobody should be seriously injured or killed in a new Volvo car.” This sentence, along with strong investments in research and development, has since become a staple of the company’s dogma. The new Volvo S60, revealed only days ago, follows this dogma to the letter with a wealth of technologies and solutions focused on achieving a single purpose - to create the safest car possible. Sure, the technology hidden under the body of the new S60 is shared among all new Volvo cars based on the SPA platform, but that does not make it any less intriguing.
Did you know that the most powerful Volvo is an XC90 T8 plug-in Hybrid with the Polestar Performance Optimization package? It has 415 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. With the introduction of the new Volvo S60, the same drivetrain found its place under the gorgeous metal of the latest mid-size sedan with Polestar Engineered attire and crest.
“The new S60 T8 Polestar Engineered is an electrified car that does what you want it to,” said Henrik Green, Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Volvo Cars. “All components have been fine-tuned to work together, delivering a responsive and exciting driver’s car.”
Making the new S60 as potent as it looks, Polestar Engineered had to make some important changes compared with the classic versions of the car. Sure, the R-Design is still available and gorgeous at that, but it is not the top of the line anymore. That honor falls on the new Polestar Engineered S60.

Volvo’s First EV Will be Derived from the XC40; Bolder EVs Will Carry Polestar Badge
Volvo has confirmed that its first electric vehicle will be derived from the XC40 crossover and that it will arrive after Polestar introduces its second model in 2019. The battery-electric version of the XC40 will be followed by an EV version of the XC90, which is scheduled for a 2021 race. Volvo also has no plans of building electric-only models, opting instead to develop EV versions of its current models.
