Chevy has started shipping right-hand drive C8 'Vette's in the U.K. and CarWow decided to pit it against a 458 Specialé
Under the hood of this bronze beast lies a 6.2-L naturally aspirated crossplank V-8 mill
It has been slightly detuned for Europe to comply with stricter emissions norms. It produces 482 hp and 452 lb-ft of torque
Power is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed Tremec DCT auto
The Corvette tips the scales at 3648 lbs and costs a couple of grand shy of a $100,000 in Britain
Speaking of prices, the other car here, the 458 Speciale is now valued at half a million dollars
Under the hood lies a 4.5-L V-8
It produces a whopping 605 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed DCT auto
So the C8 packs more torque, but the Ferrari has more power and is lighter by a couple of 100 lbs
While the Corvette took the first round, it was the Ferrari was the fared better taking two rounds out of three
It did the 1/4 mile in 11.7s with the C8 covering the same distance in 11.8s
In the rolling races from 50mph in automatic mode, the C8 once again kicked down much better than the Ferrari
Switching it to manual mode saw the Italian car eventually start to pull away
It also took the brake test thanks to the carbon ceramics. Having said that, purely based on performance, the C8 offers so much more car for the money and it certainly is my pick. Let's see what the Z06 can do against a Speciale. Swipe up to read more.
