A few days ago, CFMoto debuted its new streetfighter, the 800 NK, which sent warning shots in the middleweight naked space. And now, it’s replicated this with a new variant of the CFMoto 800MT (Ibex 800 in the States) for 2023. Called the Explore edition, the new variant has a variety of upgrades over the standard 800MT, the crown jewel being the addition of radar–a first in the sub-800cc ADV segment.

Though the CFMoto 800MT is the first in its class to feature radar, the Chinese company has taken a slightly different approach. Instead of a front radar (like the new Yamaha Tracer 9GT+), the 800MT features a rear radar sensor with a blind spot detection function to make lane changes safer. Plus, the rear radar sits in the number plate holder and is sourced from UK company RDS, instead of the usual under-the-tail setup from Bosch.

Besides this, the Explore edition also benefits from a bigger 8-inch TFT instrument cluster compared to the 7-inch unit on the standard 800MT. This touchscreen TFT brings with it an updated traction control system to make riding safer, alongside the usual crop of features like smartphone connectivity, ride modes, cornering ABS, and TPMS. You also get all-LED lights, an adjustable windshield, a set of auxiliary lights, and ample crash protection.

This Version Of The 800MT Is Better Suited Off-Road

Another notable update for the 800MT Explore edition is its new Michelin Anakee rubber, which is more suitable for off-roading than the Maxxis tires on the standard variant. However, the spoke wheels (19/17-inch) and tire dimensions still remain the same, and so do the other mechanicals. So the 800MT Explore continues to roll on adjustable upside-down forks and monoshock (sourced from KYB) with 160 mm and 150 mm travel, respectively. You will be slowed down by dual 320 mm/single 260 mm disc brakes (F/R) and J.Juan calipers.

Finally, at the center of all this lies a KTM-borrowed 799cc, twin-cylinder engine that whips out 67kW (90 horsepower) and 75Nm (55.32 pound-feet). The mill comes mated to a six-speed transmission, and we expect a bi-directional quickshifter to come standard here, just like CFMoto’s 800MT Touring variant. With all this equipment, the 800MT Explore is claimed to weigh 231 kg (509 pounds) fully laden.

Explore Edition Could Reach America By Late 2023

Since CFMoto already sells both variants of the 800MT America (under the Ibex name), we expect the Explore edition to make its way here too. However, it could arrive in late 2023 for the 2024 model year with an expected $12,000 price tag, making it the most expensive CFMoto ADV in the States. But in turn, this price would make the Ibex 800 Explore edition the most affordable radar-equipped ADV here too.
