Pierre Terblanche is one of the most celebrated motorcycle designers in the world, and the Ducati MH900E ranks top of the list of his creations. The MH900E has millions of fans all around the world, and since only 2,000 of these were ever built, it’s hard to find one and even harder to afford. London’s Gareth Roberts faced the same dilemma when he wanted to gift himself an MH900E but couldn’t afford one. The want was greater than the limitations, though, so the director took matters into his own hands and built an MH900E of his own that’s actually more beautiful than the real deal.

The build began with an extensive strip-down of a used Ducati 900SS bought by Roberts. The first piece of the puzzle is the chassis. It is crafted out of titanium by America’s Stradafab and mimics the MH900E’s trellis design. Next, the front-end (upside-down forks) comes from a Ducati 899 Panigale while the single-sided swingarm is from a Ducati S2R. In addition, the rear Ohlins suspension and 17-inch spoke wheels are custom units too, just like the chassis itself. You’ll also appreciate the Brembo RCS master cylinder and M4 calipers which up the safety levels of an otherwise-retro motorcycle.

Up top, the motorcycle wears a custom triple-tree and yoke, topped by carbon fiber clip-ons for an aggressive riding posture. This setup partners up with a slew of MotoGadget accessories such as a digi-analog instrument cluster, bar-end LED indicators, and even keyless ignition. Similarly, the saddle is also a custom unit and takes no pillions, just like the MH900E.

As special as all this is, the crown jewel is the motorcycle’s bodywork. Crafted entirely out of carbon fiber, it is shaped exactly like the MH900E from head to toe and dons a breezy blue finish accentuated by subtle graphics in Ducati’s old-school font. Not to mention, the body is quite light, which explains the name “Superlite”.

Finally, the heart of the matter is an 864cc, L-twin engine. It’s understandably not stock and features a carbon clutch cover, high-performance clutch plates, and most importantly, a titanium full-system exhaust. As a result, the custom MH900E should make more horsepower than the real deal, making it an unbeatable prospect.

Yes, you can! The entire build took over three years, and after keeping it to himself, Gareth is finally ready to let it go. It has a price tag of just $42,000 on BikeShed Classifieds, and you’ll have to figure out freight as the motorcycle’s currently in London. Nevertheless, if you can arrange the cash and sort out shipping, this right here is easily one of the most beautiful Ducatis in the world.
