The rate at which electric vehicles are entering the market is astonishing. A few years ago, we barely had any options in terms of EVs, and now we are approaching the “I don’t know which one to choose” phase. Everything is available, from hatchbacks to trucks and everything in between. Now, Volvo is one of the brands that is moving towards full electrification the fastest. Its goal is to release a new electric model every year until 2030. Volvo's latest release is the XE90, a fully electric alternative to the XC90 which will continue to be sold alongside the new vehicle. Underneath, the XE90 is completely new and has nothing to do with its XC variant.

The Volvo EX90 Will Be Sold Alongside The XC90

It has been made clear that for now, the EX90 is not a replacement for the XC90. It should be viewed as an electric alternative to the hybrid three-row SUV currently on sale. This ensures that the brand's transition into the electric industry is smooth and progressive as many people are still not ready to buy an electric vehicle. Since it carries the '90' nameplate, this SUV is luxurious, and just like the XC90, is aimed toward the middle to upper-class market. Pricing for a well-equipped example will be roughly $80,000. Its slick design, interior, and performance which will be covered later justify the price tag and upper-class categorization.

The EX90 Will Be Offered Impressive Features And Technology

With more and more EVs hitting the roads, we get less and less excited about amazing technology as it is starting to become the norm. For example, up until 10 years ago, autonomous driving on an SUV in the $80,0000-range was unheard of. However, nowadays, it is starting to become common. Just like most of its rivals, the EX90 comes with all the hardware needed to take on journeys autonomously. The bulk of the hardware can be seen on the roof of the vehicle as the radar sensors are incorporated in a hump that looks like the small opening old Subaru rally cars had on their roofs. Or, if you are unaware of Subaru rally cars, just like the small display on top of a TAXI that says - you’ve guessed it - "TAXI". Now, the radar systems on top of the vehicle communicate with various other radars, cameras, and sensors that provide the EX90 with the ability to undertake autonomous driving or other safety-oriented features.

Expect The EX90 To Make Around 500 Horses In Its Best Avatar

Volvo has stated that the EX90 will be available with a choice of two powertrains. The base model will produce roughly 400 horsepower (exact numbers are not available yet) while the more expensive variant roughly 500 horses. Now, these are healthy numbers and are certainly adequate but are lower than the immense 800 horsepower available in a Rivian R1S. However, one can argue that anything upwards of 400 horsepower is unnecessary. Being an SUV, the power will be put to the ground through an all-wheel-drive system which should improve handling, safety, and all-weather performance. There is no information regarding range yet, but we do know that the car sits on air suspension. Being a vehicle that will be sold as a 2024 model, we should expect the range to fall into the 400–500-mile area; or at least hope for it!

As Is With Any Volvo, The Interior Is The Most Impressive Part

The interior of the XC90 is certainly impressive. Step in you are immediately greeted to a minimalist look. The center of the dash features a huge screen that will be used for most controls. This leads to a clean look without many buttons. In fact, the only buttons that can be found in the EX90 are for volume control and a few others on the steering wheel. This probably means that climate controls will be controlled via the screen which can sometimes be annoying. Moving to the rear, seating space is ample with plenty of legroom and headroom. Passengers get rear vents and even heated seats which are important in colder climates. The standard third-row seats are less spacious, but this is expected – especially for an SUV of this size. Improving the whole experience for passengers, a huge glass panel makes up the roof of the vehicle providing great views of your surroundings. Now, there are also a couple of features that are uncommon in the interior.

Firstly, we have cameras that are incorporated into the interior and are there to monitor the driver when in autonomous mode. This ensures that drivers remain focused. However, this isn’t their only function. These cameras use sensors to check that no occupants are left inside the vehicle when locked to help prevent animal and even human deaths from heat strokes. If you do leave occupants inside and lock the vehicle, the climate control will automatically turn on to ensure occupants remain comfortable.

Aside from this safety feature, the EX90 features recycled and environmentally friendly materials. The cloth seats are made from sustainably attained wool mixed with recyclable materials while the leather is not real leather but a synthetic material. The synthetic leather looks, feels, and cleans just like normal leather. Being an electric vehicle, the incorporation of sustainable production methods and recycled materials helps finish the image of the vehicle while presenting the clear goal of sustainability.

The EX90 may be one of the most appealing SUVs for the upcoming 2024 season. First and foremost, it incorporated amazing technology, features, and materials that make it both appealing and different. Also, for vehicles sold in the U.S., production will also take place in the U.S. Therefore, if supporting local industries is something you care about, this is a perfect car to put your money in. An electric vehicle may still be controversial, but there is no denying the benefits of autonomous driving and silent operation. With unique technology, and luxurious looks, the EX90 is an SUV that will serve your family and daily commuting needs perfectly.
