Having revealed a teaser image and pictures of prototypes testing, Ferrari is finally going to unveil its Le Mans Hypercar by the end of the month. The new LMH machine is yet to be named and will give its racing debut at the World Endurance Championship in 2023. 50 years ago, the participation of the 312 PB marked the last appearance of a Ferrari at top-tier endurance racing. Now, the Prancing Horse is returning and wants to compete for titles in another competitive championship besides the Formula 1.

Recently, Ferrari sportscar racing boss Antonello Coletta talked with Motorsport.com about the Le Mans Hypercar. In his remarks, he explained that the LMH already has been testing for more than 6,213 miles (10,000 kilometers) and goes on track every 10 days to do necessary fine-tuning and accumulate experience.

This is why the Le Mans Hypercar started testing in July at Ferrari's Fiorano Circuit before heading to other well-known racetracks like Imola, Mugello, Barcelona, and Portimao. These test runs will finally come to an end with the SEC season opener in Sebring set for the middle of March next year. For the development program, Ferrari sets on its WEC GTE Pro racers. According to Coletta, the names of the drivers for the championship will be revealed after the debut of the LMH, possibly by the end of the year.

The Follow-Up Will Be A Road-Going Hypercar

Unfortunately, Coletta did not share further information about the power and performance of the Le Mans Hypercar. We will have to wait for that until the final presentation at the Ferrari Finali Mondiali event in Imola on October 30. At this event, the LMH will be further joined by the Ferrari 296 GT3, the successor to the 488 GT3. Winning more than 500 races so far, the 488 GT3 is a very successful racecar that leaves great footprints for its successor.

It remains to be seen, how much of Ferrari's Le Mans Hypercar will actually feature the future road-going hypercar of the marque. This model was already announced in June during a statement from Ferrari regarding the future of the company. The road-going hypercar is one of 16 new Ferrari models launching by 2026, including the brand's first EV scheduled for 2025.
