The Norden 901 debuted in 2021 as Husqvarna’s first adventure motorcycle under its new owner, KTM. Now, barely two years later, it’s all set to receive a new, more serious variant dedicated to off-road shenanigans. More importantly, the new motorcycle, called the Norden 901 Expedition, has been certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, hinting at an imminent American launch. Why is exciting, you ask? Well, here’s the answer.

The 2023 Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition Is Built For All Terrain

The standard Husqvarna Norden 901 is based on the KTM 890 Adventure and focuses on road touring with occasional off-road stints. But the new Norden 901 Expedition is built to take on all terrain, and even no terrain, just like the more serious KTM 890 Adventure R. Accordingly, the Expedition variant will boast high-spec 48 mm WP XPLOR forks (likely with 240mm travel), instead of the standard variant’s 43mm WP APEX units (with 220mm travel). Oh, and when going off the road, you’ll also appreciate the former’s brawnier engine bash plate.

On top of this, the new model will come ripe with improved creature comforts such as a taller windshield, heated seat, heated grips, center stand, and smartphone connectivity. Also making your life easier will be a pair of soft rear panniers, so you can stuff them up and go exploring without the stress of bungee cords or bags. The panniers look good too and feature dedicated graphics similar to the bodywork, which will help differentiate the two Nordens from afar.

The Expedition Will Give You Added Control

What about the engine, you ask? Well, like the two KTMs, both Norden 901s will be powered by the same 889cc, twin-cylinder engine that thumps out 104 horsepower. The mill comes mated to a six-speed transmission - equipped with a bi-directional quickshifter - while an array of rider aids help keep a leash on the motorcycle. Speaking of rider aids, the Norden 901 Expedition is rumored to boast an extra “Explorer” ride mode which is optional on the standard variant. This mode lets you customize all settings separately, so you have added control over the engine and can create a setting that caters to your riding style.

The Expedition Is Right Around The Corner

Yes, you read that right. The Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition has already been showcased as a 2023 model at a dealer summit, which is the source of the video embedded above. Couple this with the latest EPA certification, and the motorcycle seems right around the corner. In fact, rumors suggest the new Norden 901 will debut in early February 2023, followed by deliveries in the next couple of months. As for pricing, we expect the Norden 901 Expedition to retail around $15,800, $1,300 more than the Norden 901’s MSRP. This is also the price difference between the 2023 KTM 890 Adventure and Adventure R.
