Healthy and safety guides tell you that a car missing a full-width windshield should not be driven on public roads yet here we are, looking at a gorgeous open-top Datsun from the late ’60s that, courtesy of the SR20DET inline-four is so fast it literally blows your cap off.

And then there’s the soundtrack and the fact that you’re never fully in the car because the doors are low enough so that most of your upper body is exposed to the elements. Grassroots Garage gets a taste of this automotive guillotine.

Concept cars are often the result of an automaker’s desire to showcase possibilities. Very rarely, though, do these possibilities translate to reality. Some concepts get used as springboards for future production models. Some get used as blueprints for future technologies. But more often than not, a lot of concept cars get sent back to the shadows, never to be heard from again. It’s a shame because the concept cars on this list didn’t deserve that fates they received. These concepts should’ve been turned into production models. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, none of them did, and all we’re left with our thoughts of what could’ve been.

Engine swaps, we’ve see quite a few. Burly V-8s replacing puny flat-fours or screaming V-10 engines giving new life to Japanese sports cars and muscle cars alike. A motorcycle engine powering a Mini, however, is not something you see every day.

Sometimes, the best drag races are those that have some form of handicap. Take this race hosted by YouTube channel Track Day, for example. It’s a three-car throw down involving an F80-generation BMW M3 Competition, a 992-generation Porsche 911 Carrera S, and a BMW M240i. The latter is the obvious underdog in this race, but this isn’t your stock M240i that comes into the race with significant modifications, none more important than an engine upgrade that helps the turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine produce more output than both the M3 Competition and the 911 Carrera S. The scales tip differently now, do they? Does the modified M240i have what it takes to beat the M3 Competition and the 911 Carrera S? Let’s find out.

More than 50 years old as of 2020, the Porsche 911 is one of the most iconic sports cars ever built. But not just for the fact that it has been produced continuously since 1963 with pretty much the same design cues, it’s also because the modern version is as quick as a full-fledged supercar in Turbo trim. Porsche takes great pride in this version of the 911 and set up an emotional video in which seven different generations of the Turbo are being drag raced at the same time.

Modern supercars and hypercars you have probably never heard of are quite numerous actually. Apart from these, I could have also listed the Rezvani Beast, the Trion Nemesis RR, the Apollo Arrow, the Arash AF10, the Devel Sixteen, and the Arrinera Hussarya, among others. But what is the point as many of these will simply cease to exist as time plays its dirty game and erases them from history. Yet, the five I chose may stick around a bit longer than expected.

The Mercedes GLE is everything you’d need in a vehicle. It looks handsome (if you’re into coupes, that is), feels premium on the inside, comes with tech features that will make nerds go weak in their knees, and powertrain options that will satisfy your adrenaline rush. On paper, every requirement is ticked well. But, it’s still not a complete package. The automaker left some rough edges that are glaringly evident, especially in the ride quality and ergonomics department. Usually, when game developers come up with a game that includes vehicles, they have to license them from manufacturers. Sometimes, game devs go around it by reimagining some of the cars or simply mashing up elements from different vehicles, making some unique stuff. Cyberpunk is one of those games. The first-person open-world shooter features some epic vehicles, from utilitarian, scruffy-looking commuter cars to exquisite luxury and hypercars. Regardless, their style has inspired more than a few people out there, which have created awesome renderings of real-life cars.

The Pagani Huayra may be nine years old as of 2021, but it’s not going away anytime soon. The Italian company is preparing a new version of the V-12 supercar and it’s going to be the most extreme iteration yet. It’s called the Huayra R and it’s still somewhat of a mystery. Pagani just released a sound sample of its V-12 engine and it’s one of the best sounding supercars out there!

The Ferrari SF90 Stradale puts a lot of supercars in their place with its blistering pace, but the quickness that it can to go from point A to point B is something that a lot of people have to see for themselves.

Brooks Weisblat from Dragtimes provided that opportunity when he got a chance to drive an SF90 in the streets of Puerto Rico. That’s where Ferrari’s new hybrid-supercar proved its worth, clocking a 0-to-60-mph time of just 2.35 seconds and hitting a quarter-mile in 9.62 seconds at 146 mph.

While the station wagon may have been a big hit in the United States long ago, today, out of all the cars sold on the U.S. market, only a handful are offered in the wagon body style. Of course, you have mainstays like the Subaru Outback, Audi A4 Allroad, and the Volvo V90 Cross Country and there are a few more obscure models like the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo and soon to be forever gone Jaguar XF Sportbrake. A few others are out there too, like the car you see here, the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S Wagon – a go-fast wagon that can easily make you forget that you’re an SUV-loving American living smack dab in the middle of North America. The Chiron has so far served as base for quite some limited-edition Bugattis. You’ve got the La Voiture Noire, the Centodieci, the Divo, and the Bolide.
