The electric motorcycle market is largely dominated by Asian (mostly Chinese) manufacturers, and it’s high time Americans pick up the pace. Doing just that, Ohio-based Land Moto has unveiled a new rugged e-moto called the District Scrambler. It's built to tackle America’s tough terrains, thanks to its decent battery-motor combination and sturdy components.

Unlike most electric motorcycles with futuristic designs, Land Moto has kept things quite quaint with the District Scrambler. The tubular chassis is fully exposed and there’s barely any bodywork, except the battery compartment. This is topped by minimalistic LED lights all around, alongside a raised front fender, all of which work together to create a burly motorcycle that’s not afraid to get dirty.

Coming to features, the District Scrambler boasts all-LED illumination, removable batteries, an LCD instrument cluster, and ride modes. The first and second modes limit the Scrambler’s top speed to 27 and 40mph, respectively, while the third and fourth modes let you breach 70mph, thus enabling highway functionality. When slowing down, single disc brakes at both ends help you shed speed effectively.

At its heart, the District Scrambler employs a 17kW (-23 horsepower) mid-mounted motor that draws juice from a 2.1kWh battery. While the stock battery range (at 40 miles) is a bit disappointing, Land Moto offers two optional battery packs with an 80 and 120-mile range, respectively. Understandably, the charging time also varies - between 1.5 hours to 5.5 hours - depending on the battery you opt for.

Finally, the 180-pound electric motorcycle rolls on 17-inch knobby tires mated to upside-down forks and monoshock for suspension duties. Together, the low weight, knobby tires, and upwards of 100mm suspension travel should make this a fun off-road motorcycle in any terrain. Oh, and in case you want to take a break from off-roading, Land Moto also supplies a 19-inch front sprocket to boost road capabilities.

Land Moto has priced the District Scrambler at $7,800 which gets you the off-road-only variant without any lights. The DOT-certified lights cost $600 extra, and you can further kit your District Scrambler with loads of accessories via the company website. As for rivals, the motorcycle is right in the crosshairs of the Ryvid Anthem which has similar specs, albeit without the off-road capabilities.
