Meet the Mercedes-Benz G-Class of Wheeled Coolers
YETI’s Tundra Haul will make sure your beer stays close even on rough terrainby Tudor Rus, on
YETI has been on the market for 13 years now, and its goal is of the straightforward ilk: build a cooler that’s so good, you’ll have to invent reasons to use it on a daily basis. Today, YETI is known for some of the sturdiest coolers ever built, and the Tundra Haul is the company’s way of exploring new territory with a cooler on wheels.
Look, alcohol drinker or not, we all know how hard it is when you could really use a sip, and there’s not a single bar in sight to put out that fire. But this is where YETI and the Tundra Haul come into play.
By the way, this is the brand's first-ever cooler on wheels, and it was designed after YETI listened to its customers' requests.
Now, YETI says the Tundra Haul can hold 45 beer cans (at a 2:1 ice cube-beer can ratio) and the complimentary ice. Should you wish to fill it with ice only, then you’re looking at around 55 pounds (25 kilos) of ice you can carry around. This places the Tundra Haul slightly above the Tundra 65 cooler and below the Tundra 75. Needless to say, the 65 and the 75 are not wheeled.
And here comes the really good stuff: the Tundra Haul isn’t made with just baby ass-smooth surfaces in mind - those are easy.
YETI fitted it with a pair of solid, single-piece Neverflat mini-tires that are resistant to punctures - think of off-road tires, but for your cooler.
Secondly, every cooler’s nemesis, wheeled or not, is its handle - usually, a broken handle means you can kiss that cooler goodbye and start shopping for another one.
So to prevent that, YETI went for a welded aluminum arm covered in comfortable grips - so 1) it will not rust and 2) it helps with keeping the cooler’s weight as low as possible. With logistics sorted out, they also focused on the cooler itself: the walls hold two inches (cm) of insulation material because let’s face it, nobody loves a warm beer.
You can get your Tundra Haul cooler on wheels right now for $399.99, in one of the five available colors: Seafoam, Reef Blue, White, Desert Tan, and Ice Blue.
And just in case you’ve been thinking how sturdy a YETI cooler really is, here’s one of the Tundra variety taking a heavy beating. PS: Do not try it at home.
