Alright. We don’t even know where to begin, so here it is. Origin PC has just created what could very well be the Holy Grail of gaming. No, let us rephrase that: Origin PC’s Big O gaming platform is the god of gaming and we’re expecting hordes of gamers to start worshipping it and offer their sacrifice. Or, how Unbox Therapy’s Lewis Hilsenteger puts it, “this is the infinity gauntlet of gaming.” Now, you’re probably asking what has gotten into us but once you hear it, you’ll understand. The Big O somehow manages to incorporate a gaming PC, an Xbox One X, a PlayStation 4 Pro, and a Nintendo Switch. Yes. All of them in just one package that celebrates Origin’s 10th anniversary. Well, friends, let us point out that fact that, to us, Origin has just become the Dan Bilzerian of gaming.
What is a Big O?
Ten years ago, when Origin PC came to life, it created a hybrid platform that brought together a PC and an Xbox 360. The resulting product was called the Big O. Fast forward one decade and Origin PC is alive and kicking, so it decided to come up with its own anniversary gift.
Origin Big O Design
For starters, the company had to adapt its previous Big O chassis so that it could accommodate the extra hardware. As you can see in the pictures, both the Xbox and the PlayStation 4 Pro had to be removed from their original cases to fit the new frame. With the space issue solved, Origin designed a custom liquid cooling system that’s tasked with getting out the heat generated by the consoles as efficiently as possible. The Big O also features a Nintendo Switch dock mounted in front of the case.
That was the moment when Origin was struck with a crazy idea. Their Genesis case could, in fact, fit the two consoles, the Nintendo mount AND a high-performance gaming PC. In the process, the consoles were upgraded with 2 TB SSDs for faster loading times and the case got an Ethernet switch and USB 3.0 ports located in the rear end of the frame, next to a HDMI port that’s connected to a 4K HDMI switch, so you can connect the system to one TV or monitor using a single cable.
Luckily (or unluckily, depending how you look at it), this is just a proof of concept and not a product that will hit the shelves - at least for the time being. Origin does say, however, that this hulked-up version of its Big O “represents our commitment to continue building custom systems for years to come.”
That said, we’d have to face the music here and imagine that if this thing were to hit the stores, then to say its price tag would be spicy would be an understatement. Then again, if Origin decided to flex its muscles in this direction, then perhaps its plans do involve an all-in-one gaming platform. In the meantime, excuse us while we check how much you can sell a kidney for these days on the black market.
