We get it. That dream holiday destination of yours that includes accommodation near the ocean is asking for more than the run-of-the-mill snorkelling run. Luckily, Sublue built the perfect gadget for light underwater exploring and who knows, perhaps the deep ocean will captivate you that much that you’ll become the next Jacques Cousteau. Even without that happening, the WhiteShark Mix underwater scooter promises loads of fun and a unique perspective on the entire environment that hides beneath the water surface. Let’s check it out.
What is a Sublue WhiteShark Underwater Scooter?
WhiteShark is a compact, airplane cabin-friendly underwater scooter fitted with two propellers. It can be used in two ways: when fitted with its floater, it maintains positive buoyancy and can take your snorkelling game to another level. But if you wish to fully explore the underwater universe, then it’s best to remove the floater and add a new twist to your scuba diving or free diving experience.
Sublue WhiteShark Underwater Scooter - Design
WhiteShark tips the scales at just 3.5 kilos, which is the equivalent of 7.7 pounds. Sublue offers it together with a lightweight bag that allows you to take the scooter on a plane as a carry on. When it’s finally time to take a bath and start exploring the sea, WhiteShark will use its 10,000-mAh battery pack to offer around 20 minutes of underwater fun. Its double propellers provide 8 kgf of thrust and a top speed of 1.5 m/s, enough to keep up with a giant manta ray, for example.
Since we mentioned compactness earlier on, the Sublue WhiteShark scooter is just 18.3 inches long, 9 inches wide, and 9 inches high. It can take you to a depth of up to 40 meters (that’s around 131 feet) and can be fitted with an action camera that isn’t included in the standard pack. The camera mount, however, is compatible with most of the action cameras on the market, so fitting a GoPro for example should turn out a hassle-free operation.
As for how you should use it, things are pretty clear. WhiteShark was designed to be held with both hands - that way the diver has full balance and control over the device. Now, if you’re planning for longer underwater session, it’s highly advisable that you have two or more batteries standing by. After all 20 or 30 minutes worth of battery life aren’t that long, especially when you’re having fun. So, by swapping the batteries, you can keep the underwater good times rolling.
The manufacturer also recommends that you wash the scooter after every use, especially if you’ve been taking it for a swim in salt water, which has a highly corrosive effect on the propellers. The Sublue WhiteShark underwater electric scooter is priced at $699.00 and you can have it in one of the three available colors - Arctic White, Aqua Blue, or Space Blue. You can buy it off Amazon but you’ll have to hurry up - at the time of writing, just three such gizmos were left in stock.
