2016 Aprilia Shiver 750

Aprilia started out life building scooters. Now the brand falls under the Piaggio umbrella, and it sort of serves as the “racing division” for the company. As such, one would expect some fairly race-tastic features, even on such a small engine, an assertion backed up by recent wins in Qatar by Aprilia racers Jordi Torres (who unfortunately crashed out in a later round) and Leon Haslam.

The company doesn’t come out and say it, but I consider the 2016 Shiver 750 to be the closest thing to an entry-level motorcycle that it offers, unless you count the SR Motard scooter (I do not). Back in ’07, the original Shiver was widely regarded as entry-level champagne at beer prices, and it pioneered the nearly ubiquitous, ride-by-wire throttle control system now seen on most top-end rides. The factory has had a few years now to polish the Shiver, so let’s see how it’s coming along, shall we?

2016 Aprilia Caponord 1200 ABS Travel Pack

When Aprilia entered the growing adventure bike market a couple of years ago, Miguel Galluzi — lead designer for the Caponord — said, “We didn’t want to design an elephant like the BMW R1200GS, or a pig like the Ducati Multistrada.” He went on to say, “We wanted a simpler look that was different from everyone else.” On looks, he might have hit his mark, but he missed the mark by a mile on the adventure bike side of things.

With no off-road amenities like an enduro drive mode, skid plate or engine guards and coming equipped with street tires and wheels, the Caponord 1200 ABS Travel Pack has only a slightly longer wheel travel to indicate it was meant for anything but the pavement. As an adventure bike, it only dreams of coming close to the "elephant" BMW R1200GS Adventure, BUT….it is an awesome sport tourer. Let’s call it like we see it and look at the 2016 Aprilia Caponord 1200 ABS Travel Pack for what it is.

2016 Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR ABS

Aprilia isn’t a brand you see zipping around Smalltown, U.S.A., but European superbike race fans (and competing manufacturers) know the name all too well. Operating under the Piaggio umbrella, this one-time bicycle, moped and scooter manufacturer now focuses its efforts on building large, powerful racing machines – such as the 2016 Tuono V4 1100 RR. The Aprilia “super-naked” line sprang from experimentation with Aprilia’s then-flagship superbike, the RSV Mille, and evolved over years of Tuono 1000 R production. This newest Tuono benefits from years of successful race experience, and it represents the latest generation of Aprilia ingenuity. I’ve made mention before about how passionate Italians (in general) are about their bikes, so let’s see if the Tuono meets my already-high expectations.

The Aprilia RS4 50 Replica is a sporty compact bike that draws inspiration from its bigger displacement brothers that dominate the race tracks. Therefore, the Aprilia RS4 50 Replica, features a lot of lines and shapes borrowed from the Aprilia RSV4 Factory super sports bike.

Jump on board and you’ll be greeted by an analogue/digital multifunction dashboard inspired by that of the RSV4, with analogue rev counter and LCD Screen for all other information. For enhanced practicality, the motorcycle features a removable shell which transforms it from a two-seater into a single-seater. Moreover, you also get a pretty spacious under seat storage compartment.

Power comes from Aprilia’s single cylinder, two stroke, 49,9 cc liquid cooled engine which is mated to a six speed transmission.

Light, compact and agile, the Aprilia RS4 50 is a sporty motorcycle that draws inspiration from its bigger brothers. The motorcycle is built around a 49.9 cc, single cylinder, two stroke engine which is mated to a six speed transmission. The engine is housed by a lightweight frame which uses die-cast beams in aluminium alloy with cross-ribbing reinforcement.

The frame sits on a 41 mm upside-sown fork (110 mm wheel travel) and a rear asimmetric swingarm paired with a hydraulic monoshock absorber (122 mm wheel travel).

As far as safety is concerned, the Aprilia RS4 50 features a capable breaking system which comprises of front 300 mm discs grabbed by four-piston radial mount calipers and rear 220 mm discs paired with single piston calipers.

The motorcycle is offered with a starting price of €3.959.

The Aprilia Caponord 1200 represents a great solution if you are looking for a motorcycle that is good for daily commuting, but it also has all it needs to offer a fun riding experience.

It is propelled by a four stroke, 90° longitudinal V twin engine with a displacement of 1197cc. The unit delivers a maximum power of 125 Hp at 8250 rpm and 114.8 Nm of torque at 6800 rpm. For enhanced versatility the engine is combined with a 3 maps ride-by-wire system. Moreover, the motorcycle is also equipped with a two-channel ABS, Traction Control (aTC ) and completely digital instrumentation.

As far as suspensions are concerned, the Aprilia Caponord 1200 features 43 mm upside-down Sachs fully adjustable forks (167 mm wheel travel) and a rear hydraulic Sachs dynamic monoshock absorber (150 mm wheel travel).

The Aprilia Tuono V4 R APRC is the naked version of the sporty RSV4. It is priced at $14,499 and comes with a long list of state of the art technologies which help it deliver first class riding performances.

At the heart of the new Aprilia Tuono V4 R APRC lies a 999.6 cc, V4 Longitudinal 65°, 4-Strokes, liquid cooled engine with double overhead camshaft (DOHC) and four valves per cylinder. The engine is paired with a six speed cassette type gearbox and delivers a maximum power of 167 HP (123 KW) at 11,500 Rpm and 82 Lb-Ft (111.5 Nm) o torque at 9,500 Rpm.

For enhanced versatility, the engine features triple mapping which enables you to modify the character of the bike using three differed setups namely: T-TRACK, S-SPORT and R-ROAD.

The motorcycle rides on 17 inch wheels wrapped in 120/70 ZR 17 front and rear 190/55 ZR 17 tubeless tires.

Unlike other bikes of its type the Aprilia RS 50 offers premium features in a relatively compact package. Needless to say that it was also built with comfort in mind so once on board, you are met by an ergonomically designed seat, a nonintrusive fuel tank and a sporty handlebar combined with a modern instrument display.

The motorcycle is propelled by a liquid cooled, single cylinder two stroke engine with a displacement of 49.9 cc. The engine sends its power to the rear wheel through a six speed transmission.

As far as brakes are concerned the Aprilia RS 50 is equipped with a 300 mm front disc grabbed by a radial caliper while out back there is a 180 mm stainless steel disc paired with a powerful two piston caliper.

Video: Aprilia and the RSV4 pay tribute to the space shuttle

The Aprilia RSV4 has raced and been compared to a number of different things over the years so it’s a little refreshing that for a change, Aprilia USA is taking its competitive juices aside to pay tribute to the the of man’s greatest technological achievement: the space shuttle.

When the first shuttle mission launched back in 1981, it opened the gates for a golden age in technological advancements that coursed through various industries, including the automotive and motorcycle segments. The space shuttle program made so many things possible in this world and opened our eyes to a world full of never-before-though-of possibilities.

Now that the space shuttle is nearing its end, the folks over at Aprilia USA have released a pretty cool video paying tribute to the space shuttle program and all the men and women responsible for designing, building, and operating the very machine that made space travel possible.

As part of the video, Aprilia uses facts from both the space shuttle and their very own RSV4 superbike to note how the former set the precedent - in more ways than one - for the latter, and so many other machines, to become the technological marvels that they are in their own right.

It’s not so much a comparison video this time around for the RSV4, but more of Aprilia tipping their helmets off to one of mankind’s finest achievements as it makes its final voyage into the cosmos.

2011 Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC Special Edition

Aprilia has brought a new limited edition RSV4 to the US market. Called the RSV4 Factory APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) Special Edition, this special edition was developed using data from this year’s Superbike Championship and is equipped with a new electronic management system that includes traction control, wheelie control, launch control and quick shift.

The new bike is powered by a water cooled, 999cc, 65° V4 engine that develops 180 HP and 115 Nm of torque. The APRC package uses an automotive inertial platform with two turn meters and two accelerometers that enable the ECU to track dynamic conditions and adjust engine control consequently. The rider can adjust any component of the APRC system independently at will.

Also, the RSV4 Factory APRC SE is the first Aprilia bike that comes with the Aprilia Quick Shift as standard. Basically, the quick shift shortens spark advance for an instant and then gradually restores it, making for super-fast shifting with no need to close the throttle or use the clutch. The system works hand in hand with the new closer spaced gearbox to limit RPM drop during shifting for faster lap times.
