Buell has recently launched the 2010 lineup and the implicit press release for it. From there, we’re caught up by the Lightning series, one that is diversified and so allows different categories of riders to find their place on one of the three models available: the XB12Ss, XB12Scg and XB9SX.
Like any true roadster, the Buell Lightning XB12Ss offers a comfortable riding position and passenger seat (not like on a brother of it I recently met). The taller and wider seat together with the 54-inch wheelbase manage to offer a better riding position while keeping the bike as sharp-cornering as ever before.
With the 2008 Lightning Super TT, Buell delivers an outstanding Supermoto that is meant to make an awful good impression on the streets. The bike aims towards performance so the Buell Thunderstorm 1203cc V-Twin engine is used. In communion with the impressively versatile chassis and the competition look, the powerplant is extremely well valued so we’re in for an interesting ride.
Cut for the rider with a shorter inseam, the Lightning XB12Scg offers a seat height that’s 1.5 inches lower than the Lightning XB12S with absolutely no compromise in handling performance. Lowered front and rear suspension and a reshaped seat lower the center of gravity and reduce seat height to 28.6 inches for enhanced rider confidence at stops and low speeds. Power comes from the same rockin’ Thunderstorm 1203 V-Twin with Buell InterActive Exhaust.
This is Lightning in its purest form. The Thunderstorm 1203 V-Twin engine pounds out 84 ft. lbs. of torque, a mountain of power made more tractable by the Buell InterActive Exhaust. The short, 52-inch wheelbase gives the XB12S the reflexes of a tailback. A coarse-texture seat and athletic riding position offer outstanding control.
A metro-middleweight, the Lightning CityX XB9SX is the perfect tool for the rider who needs to slice through congested traffic, blast away from green lights, dodge construction zones and occasionally bump a curb. The tall Skyline seat helps the rider see over traffic.
The expanded ergonomics of the Lightning Long XB12Ss make it better suited to taller riders. The wheelbase is stretched two inches, to 54 inches, thanks to an extended swingarm. The seat is taller and wider than that of the XB12S, and the expanded tail section offers more room for a passenger. There’s also a larger under-seat storage compartment.
XB12S Overview 0
The original Lightning XB12S takes the Buell Street fighter to the edge. The Thunderstorm 1203 V-Twin engine delivers a well-rounded portion of torque, thanks to the Buell InterActive Exhaust, a valve in the dual-chamber muffler controlled by the ECM that adjusts exhaust flow according to riding conditions to optimize engine power. A coarse-texture seat and athletic riding position offer outstanding control. A new, stiffer swingarm and smooth-shifting (...)
