Scooters have come a long way since the ones we used to push ourselves along with our feet. With the rise of electric motive power for two-wheelers, it was only a matter of time before someone started fitting batteries and electric motors to make the ultimate urban transport. For some people, speed is all that matters, and these ten E-Scooters will certainly satisfy that craving!

Rion 2RE70 Thrust - Top Speed: 80+ mph

In a world of ever-more constrictive laws about what, where, and how we ride, it is incredible that such a machine is legal to be ridden on city streets. Depending on the rider's weight, the Rion can reach at least 80mph, which is simply insane and what’s even better is that the Rion website states that that top speed is limited! How fast will it go with the limiter off?

Built largely from carbon fiber and aluminum, it features two motors and runs on slick tires. It’s not especially light at 69 pounds but I’d guess that at those speeds, you want all the weight you can find!

And, the price for all this speed? A cool $10,000. Maybe Junior needs to work up to this one?

Dualtron Storm Limited - Top Speed: 75 mph

While the Rion’s party trick is outright top speed, the Dualtron Storm Limited is a much more practical proposition. It loses 5mph off the top speed (still terrifying) to top out at 75mph but the range is nearly tripled to 124 miles, although we’d love to know under what conditions and power rating they achieved that figure.

If we said that the Rion was heavy, well, we retract that: the Dualtron tips the scales at 111 pounds and you have to hope that such a figure translates to the solidity of construction and a long life span.

Constructed from aircraft-grade aluminum alloy, it has a carrying capacity of 265 pounds. It has front and rear suspension and, wait for it, ABS on its front hydraulic disc brake! The tires have treads and are allegedly flat-proof.

The price is easier to swallow than the Rion, at $7,000.

Weped FS - Top Speed: 74.5 mph

Only half-an-MPH slower than the Dualtron, but a much more powerful motor which should see the Weped not even notice long, steep hills.

But still, the weight is creeping up: 121 pounds for the Weped FS means that we are getting into the territory of E-Scooters that you can’t pick up and carry up the stairs into your apartment, which does start to rather spoil the point of them.

The front and rear suspensions are fitted to the funky aluminum chassis and handlebar post although there is no mention of ABS anywhere on Weped’s website.

The FS is a limited edition E-Scooter and is only available to order from the factory. Price in the $9,000 range!

Bronco Xtreme 11 Sport - Top Speed: 70 mph

Compared to the three scooters listed above, the Bronco Xtreme 11 Sport is not much slower at 70 mph top speed but, crucially, a ton less expensive, at $3,99 which makes it a bit of a bargain in this company.

It’s fitted with ultra-wide CST Urban Tires which make it suitable for wet and even loose surfaces. Coil front suspension works with an air-shock at the rear and there’s even a steering damper fitted.

One big plus point is the very wide deck, giving plenty of room for even the largest feet and, with a 265-pound carrying capacity and 35-degree incline climbing capacity. There’s also an LCD display showing battery level amongst other parameters.

Dualtron X2 Up - Top Speed: 69 mph

It seems that the slower you want to go, the better the scooters get. The Dualtron X2 Up still has a top speed of 69mph, which is more than enough for anyone who values life, but can carry a huge 330 pounds for up to 91 miles and can beat the others on charge time as well.

It features slightly bigger wheels - 13-inches compared to the 11- and 12-inch wheels on the others - which are attached to the chassis by hydraulic suspension front and back.

Weight, however, is creeping up, with the Bronco tipping the scales at 145 pounds so you’re really not carrying this one anywhere!

Well-priced at $3,999.

Weped SST - Top Speed: 65+ mph

Combining still-decent top speed with class-leading short charge times (80-percent in three hours) and 80-mile range marks out the Weped SST as a serious contender in this list. 115 pounds is still not terribly light but it can carry up to 300 pounds.

30,000W of power will give it rocket-like acceleration but tires are down to 10-inches which would surely affect stability? Hydraulic brakes feature ‘regenerative braking’ which we suspect in this case does not mean it will re-charge the batteries but rather gives braking assistance via ‘engine’ braking to spare the brakes a little.

Price has crept back up to $7,299

Kaabo Wolf King Plus - Top Speed: 62 mph

It seems that reducing the emphasis on outright top speed allows for different criteria to be met. The Kaabo Wolf King Plus will climb 50-degree inclines, will carry 330 pounds, has brilliant acceleration, and a 70-mile range.

Like the Bronco, the deck is wide, giving much more room to maneuver while riding, and ground clearance is very good, meaning you won’t scrape the belly of the scoot when riding over rough city streets.

Hydraulic brakes and suspension and an IXP5 water resistance rating mean that this could be the ATV of E-Scooters.

Nami Burn-E2 Max - Top Speed: 60 mph

It is the second-lightest E-Scooter on this list, albeit 34 pounds heavier than the Rion, but it will carry up to 330 pounds. Constructed from carbon fiber, aluminum, and polished stainless steel and with an extra-tall steering column, making it perfect for taller riders or for more comfort on longer rides.

Short charge times (3-4 hours for 100% charge) are available with the optional fast-charger, a color dash, and some of the brightest LED lighting you’ll find on any E-Scooter.

Price: $4,795

Zero 11X - Top Speed: 60 mph

Another ‘dual-purpose’ E-Scooter, this latest offering from E-motorcycle specialists Zero is good for a top speed of 60mph but is sturdily built to work without worry off-road.

It will carry up to 330 pounds, has great suspension front and rear, and will travel 90 miles on a charge. If you’ve ridden the previous Zero 10X, then be prepared for every element of the 11X to be just that much better.

Priced from $4,250

Dualtron Thunder 2 - Top Speed: 55+ mph

Even though this is a list of the fastest E-Scooters available today, and the Dualtron Thunder 2 will top 55mph, the real appeal of this scoot is that it’s built to last.

Composed of the same aluminum alloy as used in the construction of airplanes, along with stainless steel handlebar shaft, this is as rugged as E-Scooters come.

There’s no suspension, which is a surprise given its off-road pretensions, but the hydraulic brakes are equipped with ABS. Even better is their 107-mile range and charge time is six hours with the optional fast charger.

It’s relatively light at 105 pounds and can carry 265 pounds. The price is $4,500.
