Harley-Davidson offers the new FXDR model within its rebuilt cruiser ranks for the stoplight-burners and fiery-eyed pegdraggers among you. Performance is a front-burner issue with this muscular machine, and in its original format, it carries the Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine to deliver the goods. Inverted forks and an adjustable monoshock provide sporty handling with some ride-quality control to boot.

In spite of its moniker, this is a Softail through and through,just without the fancy Softail swing-cage in back. The official designation “FXDR,” in years past, would have indicated a Dyna frame with a narrow front end, but the shift in focus to the Softails actually gives this “FXD” the Softail frame.

Out back, an engineered swingarm articulates for the rear wheel and makes no attempt at mimicking the geometry of the old rigid frames. The suspension components are of a sportier nature than you might expect from America’s longest-operating brand, all to attract performance-minded riders who might, in the absence of any alternative, opt for a naked sportbike instead.

Deep lean angles await with over 32 degrees of lean in each direction to make this bike uncommonly eager in the corners relative to the rest of Harley’s lineup. This is in spite of its kicked-out rake angle that helps it track in a crosswind, so it won’t wear you out trying to keep it between the stripes.
