If the new CB1000R is the present, this CB4 ’Interceptor’ is Honda’s future
If you have a crazy sharp memory (won’t blame you if you don’t), Honda had showcased an interesting concept called the ’CB4 Concept’ at the 2015 EICMA. The concept showed us Honda’s capabilities in making a futuristic motorcycle that still gave it a retro appeal.
Fast forward to 2017 and Honda has gone ahead and done just that on a production model, the CB1000R that was launched at the ongoing EICMA. Along with that, Honda has taken the CB4 nameplate and stuck it on another new concept that is futuristic for sure, but also has an evocative ‘Sport Endurance’ tone added to the Cafe-Racer silhouette.
As I peruse different concept and technology sites in my search for cool motorcycle innovations, things catch my attention and I like to share them with folks of similar interests. Sometimes innovative and creative designs leave me wondering “How did I ever live without this?” Then there’s the rest of the time when I have to wonder “What the Hell were they thinking?” For me, the UNI-CUB by Honda and Halbo from BMW each fit into one of the categories and are certainly interesting enough to share.

The Honda SFA Concept may be getting the lion’s share of the attention among Honda’s Osaka Motorcycle Show-bound concepts, but don’t sleep on one of the other prototypes that will be showcased at the annual event. This bike is called the CRF250 Rally Concept and from sheer looks alone, it’s already got a grip on my fluttering heart.
Granted, the bike may have a passing resemblance to the Honda CRF250L bike that’s used in the Dakar Rally, but there are also a lot of new components added into the mix to justify its concept designation. From a visual standpoint, the CRF250 Rally Concept exudes the spirit of a mini rally racer. That’s an attractive characteristic that can’t be swept under the rug. Give Honda credit for doing its part to make it look as such, including additions not he bike’s body and chassis. There’s a lot to like about the Honda CRF250 Rally Concept and I am excited to hear from Honda when the bike makes its debut in Osaka this weekend.
It’s still unclear whether the CRF250 Rally Concept will drop that “concept” designation in the future, but if I’m Honda, I’m going to have my ears on the ground in Osaka just so I can gauge the public’s interest on the model. If it proves to be a hit, then I’ll begin to seriously consider the possibility of bringing it to production. Maybe not in the near future, but sometime down the road.

Motorcycle concepts don’t get nearly the same amount of shine as their automotive counterparts. But any bike lover will tell you that our love for bike concepts runs deep. This weekend, the 2015 Osaka Motorcycle Show opens its doors and Honda is one of the manufacturers that’s expected to roll up with an army of concept bikes that may or may not be hints at potential models down the road.
One such prototype is the SFA Concept, which isn’t really entirely new, having already made an appearance at the Indonesia Motorcycle Show in October 2014. But apparently, that’s not stopping Honda from bringing the SFA Concept to another auto show, only this time, it’s going to be right in Honda’s proverbial backyard.
The Honda SFA Concept isn’t the only prototype that’s making an appearance at the Osaka Motorcycle Show. Honda’s also readying the CRF250 Rally Concept, an adventure bike based on the CRF250L and the RC213V-S, a road-going machine that’s said to share its main mechanism with the vaunted RC213V MotoGP works bike. Yep. The same one that Marc Marquez will be riding on his way to a potential third straight MotoGP title.
Needless to say, Honda’s coming to Osaka ready to impress and from the looks of what it’s got planned for the show, it’s got a few sick ones ready to for their turn in the spotlight.

Honda’s vast knowledge in producing custom concept bikes is rivaled only by its propensity to actually build them. One of their latest projects - the Honda Fury Furious Hardtail Chopper Concept - certainly brings to light their immense talent in building concepts from inspiration.
The Fury Furious Hardtail Chopper Concept was inspired by the 2010 Fury and blends both old and new school flavor into one intoxicatingly beautiful concoction. The brainchild of Honda Americas’ Nick Renner, the concept chopper carries a VT1300cc engine with a 45-degree rake and a converted hard tail to create a clean, pure, and unbridled performance bike. Everything about the bike is custom-fitted to tailor to its needs, including a custom oversize drag bars, a custom straight pipe exhaust, a custom paint finish, and a custom diamond-stitched leather seat and rear hugger.
The front wheel measures 23" while the rear tapes in at 20," providing the performance and aesthetic look that’s tried-and-true for a Honda concept chopper.
The Honda Sabre cruiser looks like a dastardly devious bike with plenty of bad intentions, just the type of bike that fits to the taste of street riders the whole world over.
So when you take the design of the Sabre and turn it into a concept with help from styling cues derived from Formula 1 and MotoGP, you get the motherload of all concept street bikes. That’s what you get with the Sabre Switchblade Pro Drag Concept. It comes with a full carbon fiber custom bodywork and spec seating, a VT1300cc engine, and a 3-way fully-adjustable sport suspension system with a single sided swing arm and a 535-chain conversion that optimizes the bike’s overall focus on design, speed, and sheer awesomeness.
In addition to the laundry list of fantastic features, the Sabre Switchblade Pro Drag Concept also gets racing spec calipers and rotors, carbon fiber wheels - 21" on the front and 18" on the rear - and an on-board GPS lap-timer with a data acquisition unit.
At some point, these concepts should make it past the production phase, right? We don’t know what the end-game is with the Switchblade Pro Drag Concept, but we sure wouldn’t mind seeing one of these bad boys on the Honda showroom floor.
The second concept Honda Motorcycles brought to EICMA Show is the V4 Crosstourer. The concept combines the phenomenal V4 engine and the revolutionary Dual Clutch Transimission and will deliver all the fun and excitement of a road sports bike; but with the comfortable upright riding position and manoeuvrability of an adventure machine.
The VFR1200F was the first model to utilize the new iconic V4 engine that signified the beginning of the new era in Honda’s engine line-up. The V4 Crosstourer Concept will utilise the same engine as the Road Sport category VFR to bring the benefits of this world-beating engine to a new type of customer. This will be the first time an Adventure Tourer bike has been fitted with a compact and powerful four cylinder V-engine unit.
The new bike is the second Honda to be fitted with this innovative transmission system after the VFR1200F and it is the first time this award-winning technology has been seen in this category.

Honda Motorcycle has brought the New Mid Concept to the EICMA Show in Milan, Italy. This concept combines innovative thinking and new technology to create a multi discipline machine.
The Honda New Mid Concept combines the latest engine technology with the advanced Dual Clutch Transmission technology which, up to now, has been exclusively offered on the VFR1200F. It also gets newly designed 17 inch wheels with pro link rear suspension and front fairing air vents coupled with the larger wheels that deliver greater stability when riding at higher speeds.
Taking the spirit of a sports motorcycle and the comfort of a scooter into a totally new format, the New Mid Concept will offer the energetic riding sensation of a motorcycle but with the ease and convenience of a scooter. This sector shattering combination of features creates a bike that is both visually dynamic and enjoyable to ride.

Having “smelled” the recent frenzy generated by the launch of the all-new Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré and Ducati Multistrada 1200, which come as direct competitors for the BMW R1200GS, Oberdan Bezzi decided to bring a fourth player to the game in the form of the Honda Africa Twin 1200. He so revives the Japanese enduro legend that was only produced with a middleweight engine (750cc) through the 1990s and up until 2003.
In order to make it on today’s much more competitive market, the new bike would have to develop around 140hp and rely on an extremely versatile chassis, just to start with. Comfort, good looks and many touring accessories should tip the scale in favor of Honda if they ever decide to revive the Africa Twin in the upgraded form demanded by today’s enduro standards. We believe Obiboi’s sketch marks the spot.
For the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, Honda has prepared a rather unique concept vehicle called the Honda 3R-C Concept. It is actually a single-seat trike that accommodates the rider in a fully enclosed cockpit and which is, obviously, powered by batteries.
This is more like the kind of concept you’d expect from innovative designers eager of global recognition, but considering that this is an official Honda concept and it is going to Geneva, it actually stands great chances to be proposed for production. Read the full press release after the jump.
Very often, those who plan to start riding can already imagine themselves dressed in bad boy leathers and so on, but you really need an appropriate bike to fulfill that dream and a bell should ring when hearing about the Unicorn concept that Honda has recently unveiled at the Auto Expo 2010 in India.
Although we would imagine something…different when reading the fancy name, the Honda Unicorn Sports Concept is anything but disappointing for the average rider in India. This should be thrilled by the 150cc engine, exciting new front cowl, stunning rear tail lamp, attractive tank shrouds, rear disc brake, spilit grab rail and dual tone styling, which are just few of the exciting features. These will most likely be found on the production version as well.
Hmm, so I guess we can say the 2010 Honda Unicorn will be a rider’s shortest trip from bad boy to funky.
Just when we thought Honda finally had the best VFR recipe designer John Keogh laughs at the current production bike and brings in his own rendering towards what he apparently considers a great idea – combining the best of Honda’s Blackbird and VFR800 models. Claiming that the VFR1200’s designer Teofilo Plaza has canceled the engineering and styling features, Keogh fixes that with eight must-have features for a veritable VFR1200F. According to Solomoto30, Honda is about to launch the street version of the EVO 6 concept bike, the “supernaked” that was first presented at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show.
Bassically, this is a muscle bike powered by a retuned version of the six-cylinder boxer engine behind the Goldwing 1800.
In what concerns the Yamaha VMAX and the BMW K 1300 R, they’re now facing a new challenger.
Believe it or not, this here is actually a 2015 Honda CB 750 concept bike, a machine that shares nothing with the original one which, by the way, we consider much better. Designed by Igor Chak, the concept drifts away from the simple technology and elegant design, but we’d still have nothing against it if, apart from the on-board computer with multi-touch display and four-cylinder liquid hydrogen engine working with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, the bike would have looked less like a…brick.
The designer claims infinite electronically tuning possibilities for almost every single feature of the bike (front and rear suspension, drive mode etc) with sensors show readouts updating every 1/10 seconds even while on the way, but what’s the point of the massive bodywork? Wasn’t this thing supposed to be at least a naked bike?
One of the most attractive concepts we’ve seen lately is the Honda CBR600RR Repsol Carbon published at deviantart by TheUncle. Middleweight supersport models rarely benefit of such treatments so it’s good to see that someone thought at the slightly discriminated 600cc CBR. Also, there are two other bikes labeled as ‘Honda CBR600RR Concept Street Version’ and ‘Honda CBR600RR Concept Street Blu’, but those two look like a Kawasaki and a Suzuki also prepped up for the track.
Honda wants to make sure that we don’t forget about their innovative concept – the V4 – which is expected to make a debut in 2010 so they launch an animated video of the bike in which the most notorious features such as the V4 engine and the outrageous bodywork as well as wheel design can be spotted.

We barely got time to realize that another year has passed by and there’s another concept trike showing us how it may very likely be the thing we’ll ride or better said drive in the future. But if it’s still here, at least let’s welcome it as should. Ladies and gentleman, I present to you the Hawk!
The design belongs to 22-year-old Alex Hodge, a designer based in New Zeeland. The young man has imagined the trike of the future as a machine powered preferably by a powerful motorcycle engine, but which would protect the user with a cockpit-like covering that swings away to allow the entry and exit to and from the vehicle.
With an alloy chassis and 19-inch alloy wheels, we already know that the thing would be light and stable, but how does it do in the performance department? Well, it seems that this designer also thinks at fuel consumption so he visualizes Hawk concept as being powered by the 999cc V-Twin engine “borrowed” from the Honda RC51 motorcycle. Now that’s pretty good considering that the specific powerplant meets a great balance between power – 120 horses – and fuel consumption which depends on how much the trike will actually weigh.
We have to admit that it looks radical, but I can’t see why he didn’t sketch a fully-equipped pilot in it. After all, what’s the point of all that transparency if you can’t be spotted when riding in style? And don’t come to me with that “view” stuff because you can see the view as you’re watching where you’re going.
Honda has just unveiled its latest motorcycle concept at the Intermot saloon in Cologne, Germany and it has already become the subject of serious controversy.
The V4 Concept Model stands out due to its hubless wheels, a faired-in front swingarm, tire covers, as well as due to incredible smooth, futuristic design. Although the fairing is apparently made out of plastic, behind it sits a four-cylinder V-Engine which is by now a trademark in this business. This is definitely “The New Beginning”!

Cologne, Germany, October 7, 2008— Honda Motor Europe Ltd. exhibited the World Premiere V4 Concept Model at Intermot Cologne. The V4 Concept Model proposes a new, sensual design direction based on Honda’s trademark 4-cylinder V- engine.
This year Honda celebrates its 60th anniversary as a company and next year the 50th anniversary of its participation in road racing, as well as the 30th anniversary of racing with an innovative 4-cylinder V-engine with oval pistons. Considering these milestones, Honda chose “The New Beginning” as its exhibition theme leading into 2009 and exhibited the V4 Concept Model which signifies the beginning of a new era.
For Intermot, Honda collected and exhibited successive V4 race machines as well as mass-market motorcycle products which were developed by feeding back the technologies cultivated through participation in challenging race competition, enabling visitors to review the lineage of 30 years of V4 engine technologies and see how Honda will take motorcycling somewhere it has not been before. The exhibition also offers an easy-to-understand introduction to various challenges Honda has undertaken in order to create joy for its customers, by utilizing its technologies that have been continuously advanced through Honda’s 60-year history and by its participation in motorsports.
Honda understands the global trend today that motorcycle users see increasing value in more emotional and sensual performance during the real world riding experience rather than absolute performance measured in numeric specifications. On another front, user friendly features that meet with human sensibilities are also becoming important along with safety and environmental features, especially in mature markets.
Honda believes that the challenge to create attractive products with an increased focus on sensual performance will be the key for the future. With the Tokyo Motor Show still a month away, Honda is making noise with the unveiling of its lineup of prototypes.
I really hope that these prototypes will be put into production without any changes because that EVO6 looks really great.
Based on the 1832-cc horizontally opposed six-cylinder powerplant from the Honda Gold Wing touring bike, it is not hard to imagine that this engine will push the EVO6 much faster than the Goldwing considering that the EVO6 motorcycle weighs less than half (...)
