When it comes to sportbikes, and there are plenty to choose from, it’s one thing to build a racey-looking bike, but something else entirely to mass produce a bike that truly would be as comfortable on the track as it is on the street.
The Kawasaki Ninja has a long and illustrious racing history, and the ZX-10R carried Kawi to podium finishes over the years, and championship status in both the ’15 Rider’s Championship and the Manufacturer’s Championship, so it’s natural that Kawi would tap it to carry its race technology to the streets.
Enter the new-for-2016 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R and ZX-10R KRT Edition. Kawi blessed this bike with all the race-proven, superbike technology that propelled the Kawasaki Racing Team to its position as the dominant racing superpower within the aforementioned brackets. Usually I get to study bikes that do little more than pay lip service to the hardcore race enthusiasts, but this time, I’m faced with the Real McCoy, and I can’t wait to delve in and see what Kawi put together for us this year.

Kawasaki made a splash in 1995 with the addition of the ZX-6R line to the Ninja family, and the reverberations are still felt 20 years later, with the 2015 ZX-6R 636 Performance as its top-shelf entry in the U.K. mid-size bracket. Built to take on its traditional competitors (Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki) in the sportbike market, this little Ninja comes with a few extra features in an attempt to give it an edge over other comparable models in its weight class. It will need all the help it can get, because it shares this chunk of the market with successful, long-established models such as the 2015 Suzuki GSX-R750 and the 2015 Honda CBR500R, to name a few. Let’s take a look at what Kawi is hiding under all those body panels to compete with such august company, shall we?

Its aggressive design language screams “Speed”, while its 636 cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC, four valves per cylinder, inline-four is ready to reward you with top notch performances in terms of power, torque and smoothens. The engine is linked to a six speeds transmission and is fed by a 4.5 gallons fuel tank.
For enhanced versatility, the motorcycle features a convenient Power mode selector that can be found on the left clip-on and gives you the option to choose between “Full” and “Low” engine power delivery modes. There is also a three-mode KTRC traction control that helps you ride safe regardless of what road conditions lie under your wheels. Super fast, super agile and super sexy, the 2014 Kawasaki Ninja is finally here and has all it needs to blow your mind. The 2014 model year comes with a set of small upgrades that help it remain the top dog from the streets.
One of the most important upgrades was made to the monocoque aluminium frame that now offers a narrower profile improving the mass centralization. The frame houses the battery, air box and air filter in a space-saving design that simplifies maintenance. Needless to say that the revised frame also houses Kawasaki’s 1,441c, liquid-cooled, DOHC, four valve per cylinder, inline-four engine which puts out a peak power of around 200 hp and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
Once the engine is fired up, the rider can switch between three traction control modes using a convenient switch mounted on the handlebar.
Other features worthy of being mentioned include the modern slipper clutch, ABS brakes, adjustable suspensions and dual mode digital ignition.
The base 2014 Kawasaki ZX-14R model is offered with a price of $15.299, while the ABS model can be yours for $15.699.

The 2012 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R ABS was built using the latest technologies developed by the Japanese manufacturer and is ready to hit both the race tracks and city streets.
The motorcycle is powered by a compact, narrow and lightweight engine which comes with large intakes valves, chromoly camshafts and strong connecting rods. Moreover, the Intake and exhaust valves are titanium to reduce reciprocating weight and stress at high rpm. The engine has a displacement of 998 cc and is paired with a six speed transmission.
Needless to say that the ride is kept in check by a set of sporty suspensions. The Shock and linkage are positioned above the swingarm, a layout that offers excellent road-holding, smooth suspension action, and stability and feedback when cornering.
The Ninja ZX-10R is equipped with Kawasaki’s Intelligent anti-lock Braking (KIBS), which is combined with front dual semi-floating 310mm petal discs with dual four-piston radial-mount calipers and a rear single 220mm petal disc paired with an aluminum single-piston caliper.

There is no other bike like a Ninja. This model has become an icon of sportiness and adrenaline from the instant it was launched for the first time on the market.
When it arrived on the big-bore sportbike stage in 2006, the big Ninja blew everyone’s minds with its power, sport-tourer comfort, agile handling and aerodynamic full-coverage bodywork. First off, there’s more displacement via a 4mm stroke increase; to 65mm (up from 61mm), with displacement now registering 1441cc (up from 1352cc). Combustion chamber shapes are newly optimized for 2012, and they’re surface-milled now, not cast. Moreover, intake ports are reshaped and polished for maximum flow while working in concert with longer and more durable intake valves.

Power. Speed. Handling. Dominance. Sometimes, bikes just come with all the elements that make for a perfect sports bike. In a nutshell, that’s what you get with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R. It’s got the kind of potent strength that will satisfy even the most discriminating enthusiasts. For the 2012 model of the ZX-6R, you can expect the same tradition of middleweight performance that harkens back to the day of the ZX600-A1.
The ZX-6R is powered by Kawasaki’s famous 599cc 16-valve, DOHC inline-four engine that provides top-shelf middleweight power, a trademark value of the Japanese bike builder. Squeezing big power from small displacement has always been a hallmark for the manufacturer and that tradition continues with the Ninja ZX-6R. The 2012 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is the quintessential finished product when passion and technology merge. Redesigned and retooled a year ago, the 2012 ZX-10R is chalk-full of new technology that elevates the bike above all others in its class.
It’s very hard for a bike to boast such claims, but this one can rightfully do so without even batting an eyelash. The ZX-10R is powered by a potent 998cc, 16-valve, DOHC, liquid-cooled inline-four engine. This power plant has been tuned to optimize power delivery, center of gravity, and actual engine placement within the chassis while the steady release of torque allows the bike to eliminate power peaks and valleys that make it difficult for racers and track-day riders to open the throttle with confidence.
On top of the impressive power train, the ZX-10R also comes with new Kawasaki technology: the highly advanced and customizable Sport-Kawasaki Traction Control that allows riders to harness and capitalize on the ZX-10R’s amazing blend of power and responsive handling. The system is called Sport-Kawasaki Traction Control, or S-KTRC, and works by crunching numbers from a variety of parameters and sensors, including wheel speed and slip, engine rpm, throttle position, acceleration, etc. The S-KTRC system also relies on complex software buried in the ZX-10R’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU) working to quickly reduce power at the right time where slippage exceeds the optimal traction zone. This allows the S-KTRC system to maintain the optimum level of tire grip to maximize forward motion, resulting in an improved lap time and better rider confidence across the board. Working on three different modes of operation - Level 1 (Max-Grip), Level 2, (Intermediate), and Level 3 (Slipper Conditions) - the S-KTRC system allows for a fast, smooth, and powerful ride on any condition imaginable.
That’s why the 2012 ZX-10R is considered as being in a class of its own.

For more than 40 years, Kawasaki has shocked and awed the motorcycle world with its big-bore streetbikes. From the arm-stretching 500cc H1 of 1969 to the legendary 903cc Z-1 of 1973, all the way to the high-tech Ninja ZX-10s and 11s of the ’80s and the ZX-12s and 14s of the new millennium, Team Green has continuously kicked butt and taken names in the large-displacement sportbike category.
Fast forward to 2011 and Kawasaki has another storm brewing with the new Ninja ZX-14. Looking as menacing as ever before in its lime green set-up, the Ninja ZX-14 takes the tradition of its predecessors and antes up to cater to the demands of the new-age riders.
Packing a technologically-advanced powertrain set-up to go with a sublime finish and carefully-constructed body, the ZX-14 will be as in demand as any Kawasaki bike that has come out of Japan in recent memory.
Not that we’re surprised considering that the motorcycle brand has been doing this for well over four decades, and they’ve established a reputation as one of the best in the biz in that time.

In 2010, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R follows the trajectory of the previous year’s ZX-10R model and comes with the same engine and chassis refinements, the first for more power and torque and the second for sharper handling around the corners. Also, the bike is designed like its bigger sibling, leaving no clear visual difference between the two Kawasaki models.
Getting in contact with a candidate for the “Ultimate Superbike” title can be a mind blowing experience, especially if you’re suppose to ride the hell out of the thing, but the 2010 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 adds a little more to that feel. It’s all about the imposing dimensions and the constant thought of knowing that underneath you grumbles this manufacturer’s biggest and most evolved motor to be mounted on a superbike-type motorcycle.
Kawasaki doesn’t redesign the 2009 ZX-10R although there have been question marks related to its doubtful approach on the most recent model years. Still, the Ninja is a high-performing sports motorcycle (no mechanical changes either) which lets no room for error in the liter class so it requires its fair share of additions consisting in nicer green and white, bronze and black color schemes.
The new colors diminish its ugly nose and make a Kawi fan “miss” the design drawbacks, especially if it lives in Europe and can go for the all-white model now available on the old continent.
