The Yamaha V-Max (yes, the bike in the Ghost Rider sequel) was arguably the most impressive power cruiser in the Japanese bikemakers’ lineup, made popular of course for its 70-degree V4 engine and distinctive styling.

Even though Yamaha only updated the V-max once in its fairly long life cycle (1985-2020), not many know that a special edition of the bike debuted in 2005. It was a bike that marked the V-max's 20-year anniversary.

Only 2000 of these were made available to the public and one such bike (#268/2000) is currently up for grabs at Bring A Trailer.

2005 Yamaha V-Max 20th Anniversary Edition On Sale

Like most special editions, the highlight of the 20th-anniversary edition of the V-Max was its striking paint scheme.

The bike came wrapped in a special ‘Shift Red’ color laden with ghost flame graphics on the fuel tank, topped by blacked-out alloy wheels featuring red pinstripes. In addition, the fuel tank cover had a special number plaque marking the special edition.

Being a power cruiser, the V-Max had broad and low seats, both for the rider and the pillion, which when coupled with its tall handlebar, resulted in a laidback riding triangle.

Oh, and once in the saddle, the rider was greeted by a unique instrument cluster comprising three-round analog dials. The five-digit analog dial currently has just 3,000 miles on it.

Next, we come to the V-Max’s USP - its engine. Powered by a massive 1197cc, V-4 engine, the V-Max produces nearly 120 horsepower and 83 pound-feet, all of it sent to the rear wheel via a five-speed transmission. Along with this, the engine also featured Yamaha's V-Boost technology which basically helped the bike make more juice, especially at the top of the rpm range.

As for the underpinnings, the V-Max came with adjustable 43mm telescopic forks and twin shock absorbers, while twin discs upfront and a single rear disc helped this 597-pound mammoth shed speed.

What’s The Price?

This special ‘05 Yamaha V-Max is currently on sale at Bring A Trailer with no reserve price and the latest bid (at the time of writing this) is a measly $2,200.

Plus, Bring A Trailer claims the bike’s carburetors were reportedly overhauled in January 2022, ensuring that everything is in running order. All of the bike’s original papers are available as well.
